How much power does talk radio have? No psychiatrist today to help us on that. For some inexplicable reason those insecure, bully-loving listeners don’t necessarily do what the talk show hosts tell them to do. Go figure. The imagery and subliminal messages that talk radio is populated by weird loud people with extreme views continued.
Camille Paglia sees the opposition party quality of conservative radio these days as a sort of a shadow government and not a problem in a democracy. If you ask me, it’s what democracy is all about.
Michael Harris of Talk Radio Magazine attributes Al Franken’s successful bid for the Senate to his stint as a talk radio host. Yeah, that and some fortuitous discoveries of previously uncounted ballots.
So Obama got elected in spite of talk radio, but will the country be safe from the harm of talk radio forever….time will tell.
I’m getting a sense that Carol Costello thinks we listeners are some kind of dupes being lured in by talk radio con artists. As she pointed out yesterday as though letting us in on a secret, it’s entertainment and about making money. Maybe like a circus, eh Carol? A sucker born every minute? It’s so much fun seeing something so familiar to you analyzed by someone who is clueless.
I’m a news/politics junkie and I love radio. Forty years ago I was listening to shortwave broadcasts from all over the world. My original SW was a hand-me-down. It was gigantic and it had tubes. I sent in my reception reports and received QSL cards in return. Dang, I wish I still had them. I would send a letter to Radio Moscow and two months later get a notice that my letter would be read by Vladimir Posner (future friend of Phil Donahue) on Moscow Mailbag the following month. I never thought that would become a “well, back in my day” story.
Talk radio is like family to me. I’m sure the psychiatrist would make something else of that, but you know what I mean. I’m so grateful to Tammy for how much she’s done to bring like-minded people together. I’ve had the opportunity to exchange emails, tweets, have blog discussions and even personally befriend very wonderful people through the Tammy connection. They are salt of the earth decent people who are as concerned as I am about the fate of the country we love. That kind of power is incomprehensible to Carol Costello.
Hi everyone. I wanted to give you the scoop and some changes we’re working on here at Tammy Blog.
I also want to say Thank You to all the Tammy Army members who have renewed in this past could of weeks. You monthly subscribers have been renewing every month which I truly appreciate, and now the quarterly subscribers have renewed as well. Thanks to all of you for staying with me. I love being independent and being free from certain artifical market forces allows me to be as free as possible in the delivery of my opinions. I hope it has made for a more fun, entertaining, and relevant program for you. Thanks again.
Now, regarding the updates here at the site. We’ve got a great team working on a few additions here, both technical and design-wise. First, we will be creating a way for the comments of the majority of you who are “trusted” commenters to be published immediately. Wordpress does allow a one-comment trusting system, but we’re designing something custom for the needs of Tammy Blog. This, of course, will allow for a faster and more lively conversation.
There are some additional security measures we’ll be implementing as well. You won’t notice any of these, but they will enhance the security of the site in general.
Lastly, since we began the blog many have asked for a forum of sorts where readers and listeners could communicate in real time during the show and otherwise. It look slike this is a feature we can add as well, and will be an exclusive feature for the TAMs.
With this in mind and while I have a team working specifically on adding new elements, I’d like to know what you would like to see added to the Tammy Blog. Let me know your ideas. While we’re expanding we might as well get as much accomplished as possible!
Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.
They’re not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency…
Probably the most controversial language begins in Section 201, which permits the president to “direct the national response to the cyber threat” if necessary for “the national defense and security.” The White House is supposed to engage in “periodic mapping” of private networks deemed to be critical, and those companies “shall share” requested information with the federal government. (”Cyber” is defined as anything having to do with the Internet, telecommunications, computers, or computer networks.)
“The language has changed but it doesn’t contain any real additional limits,” EFF’s Tien says. “It simply switches the more direct and obvious language they had originally to the more ambiguous (version)…The designation of what is a critical infrastructure system or network as far as I can tell has no specific process. There’s no provision for any administrative process or review. That’s where the problems seem to start. And then you have the amorphous powers that go along with it.”
Gravatar.com is a site related to Wordpress and all you have to do is create a free profile there and upload the photo(s) you’d like to use for your Comment picture. Right now most of us have a default blue box thingy, but it’s fun to change it, and gives everyone else a sense of who you are I had no clue how to do this and just figured it out myself, so I thought I would share.
Gravatar will automatically make your uploaded photo your avatar, but you must create an account there using the same email you used to create your Wordpress account here.
Have fun everyone! I look forward to seeing either you or the image you think best represents you
Just a quick note to let you know what’s in store. First, Ripley seems to be in the final stages of propagating around the world. Until that’ completely finished, the site may go up and down in certain areas. That should be resolved today.
And yes, we’re aware of “www” not being available. As of right now you can only access the blog as tammybruce.com. In about two hours, the “www” will be working as well.
I’ll be posting the podcasts for today’s show shortly, FYI, and still ask if you encounter a problem with the site please chime in at the emails or even here in comments if more convenient.
Another heads-up, I’ll be on Fox.com’s Internet show “Strategy Room” this time at 9am ET with Harris Faulkner. It’s like a morning show, a bit more laid back than yesterdays political show, but I’m sure as fun
Just a heads up, I’ll be on the whole hour of “Strategy Room” the Fox News internet program starting at 2pm ET. The link for the show is www.foxnews.com/strategyroom. Hope you can be there. As a result of this, Tammy Radio is now on tape, but the podcast of the 1 1/2 ours of live program today will be posted within the next couple of hours.
Thanks everyone and I hope you can tune in
UPDATE: The show went really well and was a blast to do. Thanks to all of your for your comments I’m glad you liked it. They do put up an archive of the shows and as soon as that link becomes available I’ll post it here so those of you who missed it can watch when convenient
*UPDATE BY PAT I posted a short clip on YouTube. It features some sparring between Tammy and the Beltway Bubble Boy.
Just a heads-up–I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be launching Daily Tammy Radio podcasts tomorrow, 7/22. I was going to launch the daily version with the premiere of the weekday show going independent on 8/17, but why not start now? This will be a special 2-hour, commercial free edition of the daily show.
Daily Tammy Radio podcasts will be available to members of the United States of Tammy as daily exclusive audio. If you haven’t become a paid member of the Tammy Army, I would love to have you on board. This is only the beginning of a wide variety of special media exclusively available to the Army peeps.
Thanks and I hope to have you with me as Tammy Media continues to expand.
