What is the difference between a GOP mongrel and a French poodle? --- A hockey stick.

A post by Pat

The Republicans are using coded messages again.

According to Steven Wells, "hockey mom" is a deliberate political coinage calculated to appeal to the imagery of tough, uncomplaining, ready to bang the boards and drop the gloves, as opposed to effete Euros shying away from contact.
He explains the difference between "hockey mom" and "soccer mom" and why the first appeals to Republican voters.

Palin the 'hockey mom' is just an exercise in political branding

When gnarled former PoW John Sidney McCain III announced Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, we were introduced to a new and instantly ubiquitous phrase - "hockey mom".

"A hockey mom is more American," says Philadelphia columnist Liz Spikol. "A lot of Americans are suspicious of soccer, and still believe it connotes the foreign. Whereas hockey is as GOP-North American as a fetus on posterboard." [charming --- p]

So why has the Republican candidate for vice-president worked so hard at branding herself with the hockey mom label? Of course it might simply be that she's genuinely immersed in ice-hockey culture. The thug who impregnated her 17-year-old daughter...certainly is.

[...]

And there, I think - in a sweary nutshell - is the reason Palin is so keen to be seen as a hockey mom. In the minds of the effete conservative elite who run the Republican party, the hockey-playing yob who got Palin's daughter pregnant represents an idealised form of American masculinity - unthinking, brutish, willfully ignorant, easy to manipulate, unquestioningly patriotic, proudly reactionary, quick to respond to any perceived threat with overwhelming violence - and very unlikely to ever vote Democrat. Or - by extension - play soccer.

Mr. Wells should be sent to the penalty box --- in a straightjacket.

Oprah's Vawee Afwayd of Sarah

OprahGayle.jpg

Oprah and her really, really, really, good friend Gayle.

Apparently Sarah is way too scaywee to have on her show. Her audience, after all, just might have minds of their own and be swayed by the governor if they hear from her, and we certainly can't have that!

Edwards Affair? Someone Else's Fault Entirely

riellehunter.jpg

Rielle Hunter. Manifester Supreme.

It seems quite a few people have had odd encounters with John Edwards' girlfriend, Rielle Hunter. This opinion piece, though, in the Los Angeles Times has got to be one of the funniest and most revealing of all. Not only is it an entertaining read, it speaks perfectly to exactly the sort of encounter one has at one point (or many points) living in Los Angeles. It also reveals a heck of a lot of how much of an idiot John Edwards really is. Here is a New Yorker who transplanted herself to Los Angeles after September 11, and her two encounters with the energy-sensitive manifesting airhead called Rielle Hunter.

Priceless. Yes, of course, read the whole thing...

Edwards' affair? My fault

I blame myself.

It is totally my fault. Well, maybe it's just my energy's fault. But wait -- do we control our energy? Don't we just, like, attract what we put out? Anyway, I have really powerful energy, and I refused to respect it, and now it's too late.

What I'm trying to say is that it's my fault that Rielle Hunter had an affair with John Edwards. It's my fault his display of moral laxness let down his supporters, let down the country. It's my fault he cheated on his cancer-stricken wife and betrayed his three children.

Let me explain. I, like every other New Yorker who valued their life, moved to Los Angeles in October 2001. Almost immediately, I rented a room in a house in Benedict Canyon, owned by a friend of a friend, and lived there for almost a year. When I moved out of that room -- and I don't mind telling you at this point that Harrison Ford did the built-ins in the den and possibly some of the kitchen cabinetry -- Rielle Hunter moved in...

An End to Free Money for Sex Offenders

Fantastic. Our tax dollars being used to make sure rapists and child molesters become educated rapists and child molesters. And somehow, while we're spending untold millions on this outrage, Congressional liberals dare to talk seriously about raising the gas tax because of 'revenue shortfalls' for the so-called highway trust fund.

And how nice that it took a Democrat congress in Bush's last five months to finally put a stop to it. And they wonder why we're burnishing our torches.

No College Aid for Sex Offenders

Some of the nation's worst sex offenders will no longer be eligible to receive generous educational financial aid packages while they are confined in treatment centers under a bill approved by Congress.

A little-noticed provision of a broader higher education bill makes such offenders ineligible for Pell Grants, the nation's premier financial aid program for low-income students, starting July 1, 2009.

Both the Senate and the House approved the bill late last week and President Bush is expected to sign it into law...

The Associated Press reported in March that dozens of rapists and child molesters have taken higher education classes at taxpayer expense while confined to treatment centers.

"Today, the most insane wasteful spending program in America comes to an end," Rep. Ric Keller, R-Fla., said on the House floor Thursday before his plan won approval. Keller cited the AP report that some offenders were using the financial aid to buy clothes, DVD players and music CDs - sometimes after they dropped their classes.

Food Apartheid?

A post by Maynard

This Slate article, Food Apartheid, is worth reading. It's a disturbing sign of the times.

The war on fat has just crossed a major red line. The Los Angeles City Council has passed an ordinance prohibiting construction of new fast-food restaurants in a 32-square-mile area inhabited by 500,000 low-income people.

We're not talking anymore about preaching diet and exercise, disclosing calorie counts, or restricting sodas in schools. We're talking about banning the sale of food to adults. Treating French fries like cigarettes or liquor. I didn't think this would happen in the United States anytime soon. I was wrong.

It's important to note that the rationale behind this move isn't to oppose urban clutter or limit the supply of contraband such as liquor that could have impact on others. This is, pure and simple, daddy telling baby to eat the vegetables.

Hollywood Babies Whine About McCain 'Celeb' Ad

McCain gets 1000 extra points for causing Hollywood MalNars to pout about his ad calling B. Hussein a celebrity, not a leader. It's about time he started to irritate someone other than us.

cryingbaby.jpg

John McCain ad irritates many in Hollywood
The celebrity backers of Barack Obama say they are not like Paris and Britney.

To Hollywood, it smacked of desperation.

That's why the reaction to a new John McCain ad attempting to portray Barack Obama as a kind of mindless celebrity -- likening him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears -- drew collective yawns and shrugs of irritation from politically active members of the entertainment industry.

"I didn't think McCain could look silly," mused Norman Lear. "But that ad diminishes him and makes him look silly." [...]

McCain's latest attempt at discrediting his handsome, photogenic young rival [Hahahahahaha! Yeah, that's deep for a story about an ad condemning the shallowness of Hollywood!] particularly galls stars and executives with a memory, because only eight years ago, McCain was a fixture in Hollywood fundraising circles when he tried to raise money from the very people his ad now ridicules.

At the time, dozens of people in Hollywood -- including Lear, Harrison Ford, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy and Michael Douglas -- gave to McCain because they thought he was a Republican celebrity ď with a great personal story. And, dare we say, some celebrities, namely Warren Beatty, even became friends with the Arizona senator.

But the truth is most of Hollywood won't return McCain's calls nowadays because many of the stars and executives he initially impressed now believe the maverick stance they found so attractive was just a pose. Hollywood doesn't object to a good pose -- unless, of course, it doesn't work.

Touch a nerve, did he?

Democrat Convention a Financial Mess

And these liberal screw-ups want us to put them in charge of everything.

Democratic convention brings challenges to Denver

The host committee is as much as $10 million short in fundraising, and financial difficulties have forced it to cancel two dozen parties for delegates. Denver officials are scrambling to deal with the logistical challenges of Barack Obama's acceptance speech being held at an outdoor stadium instead of in the arena where the rest of the convention will take place. Even special daisies that the city bred partly to show off for the convention are failing to sprout.

Criticism has been so harsh that this month the host committee felt compelled to issue a news release defending its much-mocked catering guidelines, which recommend organic produce and color-coordinated meals and discourage fried food...

Problems swiftly surfaced, starting with fundraising. The host committee told caterers they should make "every effort" to ensure that each plate consisted of 70% organic food and 50% fruits and vegetables; include nothing fried; and contain at least three of these five colors: red, green, yellow, purple/blue and white. [Hahahahahahaha!! Multiculturalism as applied to food colors!!!!]

After caterers complained and the policy was mocked in the media, the host committee put out a defensive news release saying the guidelines were voluntary and fried food would still be available.

"That was not a good start, creating the food police," said Councilman Charlie Brown.

Yeah, its not a good start, it's called Liberalism, and it's doomed to a bad middle and end, too.

Obama and McCain Pander to "The Race"

Assume the position!

Si, Señor.

McCain a little less so than Obama, but just appearing at a convention for a group called "The Race" and whom advocate for an end to the Rule of Law and the sovereignty of this nation is in and of itself pathetic.

Obama spoke to the national La Raza conference on Sunday, managing to differentiate himself from McCain on the immigration issue...by casting border law enforcement agents as terrorists.

McCain picked up the soap for them today, with a message that focused more on economics than on immigration. That was a smart move, but he did end with his usual rhetoric about how once we get the border "secured" (no doubt with another virtual fence that doesn't work) then he'll set about to get everyone amnesty and set up the New Slave Class of the Brown People Who Do Work The White People Won't Do.

His remarks in full are at his official site, but here is his main point about immigration. Listen to Obama's comments and even though we're tired of this pandering by McCain, compared to The Messiah calling our law enforcement agents terrorists, McCain sounds practically reasonable.

Let me address one other issue important to all of us. As you know, I and many other colleagues twice attempted to pass comprehensive immigration legislation to fix our broken borders; ensure respect for the laws of this country; recognize the important economic contribution of immigrant laborers; apprehend those who came here illegally to commit crimes; and deal practically and humanely with those who came here, as my distant ancestors did, to build a better, safer life for their families, without excusing the fact they came here illegally or granting them privileges before those who have been waiting their turn outside the country. Many Americans did not believe us when we said we would secure our borders, and so we failed in our efforts. I don't want to fail again to achieve comprehensive immigration reform. We must prove we have the resources to secure our borders and use them, while respecting the dignity and rights of citizens and legal residents of the United States. When we have achieved our border security goal, we must enact and implement the other parts of practical, fair and necessary immigration policy. We have economic and humanitarian responsibilities as well, and they require no less dedication from us in meeting them.

In fact, the thing that incensed Pat S. the most was this rather remarkable comment to 'Latinos' by Obama during his speech. Barry seems to think that a special interest group that caters to law-breaking foreigners will control this election. Let's make sure he gets a different lesson i November about who is really in charge--that would be Us. In addition to casting American law enforcement as terrorists, he also made note of a few other things:

Obama: Latinos Hold 'Election In Your Hands'

In his speech Obama spoke about immigration, "the need to stop the hateful rhetoric filling our airwaves" and "bringing the 12 million people here without documentation out of the shadows" to give them a "pathway to citizenship." Obama accused McCain of abandoning after major immigration legislation fell apart last year.

So, he promised clamp down on Freedom of Speech if it irritates illegal aliens, romaticizing the millions of illegals, while then promising citizenship and amnesty. Terrific!

And Pat's favorite statement:

"Make no mistake about it: The Latino community holds this election in your hands," Obama said to cheers. "I am here today to make you this promise: I will be a president who stands with you and fights for you and walks with you every single step of the way."

That's funny. I thought it was the American citizen who voted who hold this election in their hands. You know, I think I'm right. let's indeed make sure Barry gets another lesson in American civics. He recently learned there aren't 57 states. Now hell learn who's in charge here, and it's not "La Raza."

Related link:

The San Francisco Chronicle, in all its liberal haze, gives a big, sloppy French kiss to La Raza and tries desperately to explain why it was okay for Barry to translate "La Raza" to "The People" instead of "The Race." Get ready for some seriously ridiculous panty twisting here.

(They don't provide you with the link to the original story referred to in the link above. I have done so here. Apparently while more than willing to defend Barry's pathetic spinning with some of their own, they don't really want to make it easy for you to take a look for yourself at their rank bias).

McCain is Lookin' Sooooo Good These Days

cynthia_mckinney.jpg

What can I say? Perspective does wonders.

McKinney running for president as Green candidate

(CNN) -- The liberal environmentalist Green Party nominated former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney as its presidential candidate Saturday...McKinney, 53, held off three rivals to win the party's nomination during its convention in Chicago, Illinois. She picked journalist and activist Rosa Clemente as her running mate.

Green Party spokeswoman Scott McLarty acknowledged McKinney was a "long shot" for the White House, but said, "Every vote that she gets helps the Green Party."

First elected in 1992, she lost a primary challenge in 2002 after suggesting in a radio interview that members of the Bush administration stood to profit from the war that followed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

In 2004 she ran again and won with a low-key campaign in which she largely avoided controversy. But voters ousted her again in 2006 after she was accused of a physical altercation [also known as punching a cop] with a U.S. Capitol Police officer who questioned her after failing to recognize her at a security checkpoint.

"The United States needs an alternative party," McLarty said. "The narrow two-party system we have right now has not served us very well."

Just so we're all in agreement, the system is so bad, it's also not serving the lunatic fringe well. So let's get all excited at the prospect of a party that's even crazier than the Dem and Repubs put together, with a nominee who should be running for a psychiatrist's office, not for president.

Kids Who Don't Like Spicy Food Are 'Racist'

Coming soon to a liberal, bloated, mentally ill collection of multicultural bureaucrats near you (oh, sorta like what an Obama admin will look like). This one is courtesy of another politically correct liberal nutgroup in England. (HT Marlee).

Toddlers who dislike spicy food 'racist'

Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.

The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.

This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age...The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships." The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'"...

Nurseries are encouraged to report as many incidents as possible to their local council. The guide added: "Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

The English have allowed liberals to drive them officially insane.

Time Mag: High Gas Prices Are Good

depressionwoman.jpeg

Gas too expensive? Be happy! Less work, less money, less traffic, and bonus--you'll lose weight!

Barry noted back in June how he likes high oil prices, he just thinks it happened too fast. Now Time Magazine chimes reinforcing his message (which they will do throughout this campaign) that having no money, no freedom and no efficient way to get around is a Really Good Thing. It's what I term the liberal agenda goal of "Failure Success." Since liberals believe American activity and consumption are the root of all evil, high gas prices are a terrific, fast way to get us to stop producing. And spending. And caring. And working. And enjoying life. In other words, we'll all be liberals.

10 Things You Can Like About $4 Gas

The world had long assumed that Americans were just unrepentant energy pigs...Now here we are. Gas prices are near $4 per gal., as no one needs to tell you, and they are likely to stay that way. Most of us still don't have the alternatives we need to adapt with grace, which means that many will adapt just by suffering. We will run out of gas on I-80, ease our minivans over to the shoulder and tell the kids everything is O.K. We'll fall behind on Visa bills to pay for gas so we can buy food made ever more expensive by energy costs.

But it's also true that Americans are finding options where there seemed to be none. They're ready to change — and waiting for their infrastructure to catch up. They are driving to commuter-rail lines only to find there are no parking spots left. They are running fewer errands and dumping their SUVs. Public-transit use is at a 50-year high. Gas purchases are down 2% to 3%. And all those changes bring secondary, hard-earned benefits.

"You suddenly are reminded how the economy works," says Eric Roston, author of a new book about energy, The Carbon Age. "Nobody wants high prices for oil. But there's also no faster mechanism to change behavior." The suffering will go on. But the story, like any good tragedy, is not without redemption.

Ah yes, forced by artificially high oil prices because liberals whined their way into demonizing drilling and refining American oil, and casting nuclear power as the devil, and now we have the Big Pay Off: Wasting more time, accomplishing less, and growing more reliant on government. Yes indeed, what a good tragedy they have in mind, as all liberals usually do.

Oh yeah, two of their Really Great Things About Getting Robbed At the Tank include "Four Day Work Weeks," "Less Obesity," and "Less Traffic." In other words, we'll be just like France. But hey, why stop at France? If we really screw up and destroy the country and our ability to produce and live the lives we want to live, why not go for the Jackpot of Failure and look at the Failure Success of, oh, Zimbabwe and Sudan! They have Zero Work Day Work Weeks, people are really thin (that starvation thing) and there's no traffic at all (except for the various militias that come around the kill you). Yeah, now that's a level of Failure Success weshould strive for!

Puppy Pic Enrages Muslims

scottishpuppy.jpg

Rebel the Puppy. Offensive to Muslims.

beslan.jpg

Beslan School Massacre. Not offensive to Muslims who carried out the murder of children.

vine.jpg

Emasculated, pathetic, apologizing Tayside Police Chief Constable John Vine. Offensive to me.

Here's a Newsflash: when a group of people make themselves heard clearly about being offended by a puppy picture yet not a sound is uttered condemning the regular murder of children by their brethren, that's called "the enemy." (HT Pat S.)

Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat

A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.

Tayside Police's new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community...The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.

Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: 'My concern was that it's not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards. 'They (the police) should have understood. Since then, the police have explained that it was an oversight on their part, and that if they'd seen it was going to cause upset they wouldn't have done it.' [...]

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: 'Trainee police dog Rebel has proved extremely popular with children and adults since being introduced to the public, aged six weeks old, as Tayside Police's newest canine recruit.

'His incredible world-wide popularity - he has attracted record visitor numbers to our website - led us to believe Rebel could play a starring role in the promotion of our non-emergency number. 'We did not seek advice from the force's diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards. That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused.'

Morons, each and every one of them, on both sides.

If the world was right-side up, instead of the police apologizing for putting a puppy in an ad, the authorities would round up every "offended" individual and order them into regular psychiatric treatment. What's even worse? Supposedly normal people actually apologizing for a puppy pic. Make no mistake though--if you can get supposedly normal people to feel bad about a puppy, you're well on your way to the rest of the backward, sick perversion of Shari'a law.

Time: Don't Get Too Excited About that Gun Ruling

You bitter, clingy types. Yeah, and don't think you can go walking around with the thing.

I think the libs are getting a little cranky...

The Future of Gun Control

Proponents of gun rights may rejoice at winning this heavyweight tussle, but their victory comes by way of a nuanced decision. The ruling, which affirms a federal appeals court decree, makes clear that individual ownership rights are limited. "It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose," Scalia wrote... [Yeah, so there!]

In one of two dissenting opinions, Justice John Paul Stevens called Scalia's argument "strained and unpersuasive." He also blistered the majority for its expansive reading of the Amendment's "ambiguous" text. "Until today, it has been understood that legislatures may regulate the civilian use and misuse of firearms so long as they do not interfere with the preservation of a well-regulated militia," Stevens wrote. "The Court's announcement of a new constitutional right to own and use firearms for private purposes upsets that settled understanding."

Welcome to the Land of the Upset Justice Stevens, Time, and everyone else who is crying into their soup today because we got a 5-4 decision to not, as Scalia put it, declare the 2nd Amendment "extinct."

Dem Congressman "Glad" al-Qaida Might Harm Cheney Aide

Oh yeah, it was just "a joke." If you or I made that sort of joke, we'd get a visit from the Secret Service faster than you can say "Allah Akbar!"

Congressman Meant 'No Ill' With Al Qaeda Comment to Cheney Aide

A Democratic congressman who was accused of suggesting that Al Qaeda may want to harm a prominent White House official told FOX News he meant "no ill" by the comment.

Massachusetts Rep. Bill Delahunt made the remark Thursday while questioning David Addington, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, during a House subcommittee hearing on interrogation policies.

Addington said he couldn't discuss certain interrogation techniques because "Al Qaeda may watch C-SPAN," which was televising the hearing.

Delahunt responded: "Right, well, I'm sure they are watching, and I'm glad they finally have a chance to see you Mr. Addington."

My favorite part, though, is Delahunt trying to lie his way out of what it means to be "glad" that al-Qaida has a chance to see a White House official.

"That’s absurd. That was not my intent," he told FOX News. "And I’m sure Mr. Addington knows that was not my intent."

Delahunt said he was just trying to express that he was glad to see Addington. Delahunt said he recalls saying "I," not "they," during the testimony – though the video, broadcast on C-SPAN, shows he was talking about Al Qaeda.

Actually, he was referring to al-Qaida, not to himself. In addition to being depraved, he's also a coward. Here's the video.

The $115 Liberal Turkey Sandwich

TurkeySandwich.jpg

No, I'm not speaking specifically of Barry himself, but of an actual sammich. The liberal disrespect for money, no business sense, and a general lack of financial understand (this is what happens when you're always spending someone else's money, btw) didn't end with the financially obscene Obama/Clinton half-a-billion dollars primary fiasco. No, it continues...in the form of what an Indiana Herald Times reporter paid to spend the day with The Messiah.

Invoice from Obama coverage another view of campaign

The bus had begun the morning in Indianapolis and continued on to Terre Haute for an evening event. Last week, we got a bill from the Obama campaign, which we expected. We didn’t want or expect a free ride or free food.

The details of the invoice were surprising, however.

Meals: $115.62.

Bus: $226.17.

Supplies: $5.54.

Files: $91.41.

Invoice total: $438.74.

[...]

In regard to meals: Boyd essentially was billed $115.62 for a cup of soup and a turkey sandwich, because the campaign bills only for the day — not a la carte. He wasn’t in Indianapolis for the full breakfast buffet, or in Terre Haute for the dinner options that included grilled salmon, baked chicken with honey glaze, beef, steamed vegetables, Greek salad, oven roasted potato, rolls and butter, water, soft drinks and coffee.

Too bad we didn’t send a hungry surrogate to breakfast and dinner, since we were paying for the meals.

Yes, indeedy. And that's what The Messiah plans for all of America--very few people paying all the taxes, with most everyone else consuming them. Marx would be proud.

Shocker: Manbearpig Hunter Backs Obama

manbearpig.jpg

The Goracle, warning South Park about ManBearPig, who actually lives only in Imaginationland.

The failed, fat and miserable supporting the clueless, slim and Marxist. How perfect.

Gore endorses Obama

FLINT, Mich. - Al Gore says he is backing Barack Obama and will do whatever he can to help him get to the White House. In a letter to be e-mailed to Obama supporters, Gore says Obama has united a movement over the past year and a half. [And what would that be exactly? The man couldn't even get a majority of his own party to vote for him.]

The former vice president also asks for donations to help fund Obama's effort — the first time he's asked members of his Web site AlGore.com to contribute to a political campaign.

Gore is one of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party, but he kept a low profile in the primary campaign. He's planning to appear with Obama at a rally in Detroit Monday night.

Now if only we get Teresa Heinz-Kerry there I would be even happier and more amused.

Obama Says No To Townhall Debates, Jokes About Bringing a Gun

obamasmoking.jpg

Whatever.

He's afraid of the old man apparently. He is willing to have one town hall-style debate--on the 4th of July when no one will be watching.

Obama on Friday rejected McCain's proposal for 10 joint town-hall appearances, question-and-answer gatherings before small audiences that the Republican senator tends to favor. The Democrat has performed best at massive, emotional rallies drawing tens of thousands of people.

Obama has offered to meet McCain in five joint appearances between now and the Nov. 4 election, but only one of those would be town hall-style and it would be on the July 4th Independence Day holiday, when few Americans would be watching. McCain called the offer "a very disappointing response."

Barry also seems to be so afraid of Cindy McCain's husband that he's threatening to bring a gun to to any debates he's not too afraid to have. The McCain camp thinks this can mean a few things...

Obama Flip-Flop on Gun Control? Or New Politics? Or Both?

Barack Obama appeared at a fundraiser in Philadelphia last night where he delivered the following remark:

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."

A couple thoughts from McCain HQ on this. First, Barack Obama has a long track record as a proponent of stringent gun-control regulations--to the point that a questionnaire filled out by his staff, and with the candidate's handwriting on it, stated that Obama favored a ban on the manufacture, sale, and distribution of handguns. Can we assume that Senator Obama now opposes efforts to ban the possession of handguns?

Second, would Obama be carrying a concealed weapon to this fight? Will he have a permit?

And finally, we're having second thoughts about our proposed series of town halls.

Well, let's look at it this way: I suppose threatening the other presidential candidate with gun violence is 'change.'

Michelle Obama Delayed Daughter's Birth For 'Historic' Reasons?

The height of Malignant Narcissism if true. Really, though, I claim Shenanigans. In other words, Michelle Obama is more full of bullsh** than your average, uh, cow.

Blech.

Obama's wife charms elderly

The rumors and innuendo reached the point that Sen. Barack Obama's campaign launched a new Web Site this week, fightthesmears.com. It first denied the "whitey" claim, stating, "No such tape exists."

Mrs. Obama made her first public appearance Friday since these hubbubs arose, and the campaign made sure she had a nice, soft landing. She introduced her husband to about 40 elderly people at the Oakleaf Village retirement center in Columbus, Ohio...

She quickly tied the anecdotes to her husband's theme of the day, retirement security. Her mother can help so much, Mrs. Obama said, because of Social Security and her late father's pension benefits.

What? With the $4 million she and her husband made last year one would think she should be paying for a nanny, and treating her mother to a Mediterranean cruise! But here's the kicker...

In her four-minute speech, Mrs. Obama also burnished her patriotic credentials, which have come under attack from various critics. The Tennessee Republican Party aired a video of her saying earlier this year that her husband's candidacy made her proud of her country "for the first time during my adult lifetime."

Mrs. Obama told the elderly audience that her daughter, Malia, "will be 10 on the Fourth of July. Yes, we planned it that way. I cooperated. I was supposed to have her on July 1, but I waited, because my daughter would be more historic."

Which is why, I'm sure, she made Jeremiah "G-damn America" Wright her spiritual mentor. For crying out loud.

Just remember, and focus:

Cindy!

WSJ: President Kennedy

As in Tony. The WSJ assesses how far exactly SCOTUS went in declaring themselves the primary decision-making body in the US, above both congress and the president. Excellent background as well on the decision in which the grandiosity of the Gang of 5 is based.

President Kennedy

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy isn't known for his judicial modesty. But for sheer willfulness, yesterday's 5-4 majority opinion in Boumediene v. Bush may earn him a historic place among the likes of Harry Blackmun. In a stroke, he and four other unelected Justices have declared their war-making supremacy over both Congress and the White House.

Boumediene concerns habeas corpus – the right of Americans to challenge detention by the government. Justice Kennedy has now extended that right to non-American enemy combatants captured abroad trying to kill Americans in the war on terror. We can say with confident horror that more Americans are likely to die as a result.

Justice Kennedy's opinion is remarkable in its sweeping disregard for the decisions of both political branches...

Notes on the SCOTUS Gitmo Decision

Khalid Sheikh Muhammad

SCOTUS says foreign terrorist beasts like Khalid Sheikh Muhammad, the mastermind of September 11th, has the same rights as an American citizen.

I've been remiss in not posting on the SCOTUS Gitmo decision, but there's a point where the blogosphere becomes an echo chamber, with everything possible being said, said. I discussed it at length on Tammy Radio Thursday morning, but there are regular developments. For now I'll point you to the analysis at Powerline and Ed Morrissey at Hot Air.

The latest news involves Lindsay Grahamnesty fuming about how awful it is that SCOTUS has effectively ruled that an al-Qaida terrorist has the same rights as a US citizen. That is effectively the case, and it is awful, but Grahamnesty's outrage is just a tad hypocritical. Let's not forget Grahamnesty, along with McCain, rhetorically and legislatively crafted the federal notion that foreign nationals (illegal aliens in their instance) should in fact have all the rights of and even more benefits than US citizens, such as free health care and mortgages and credit cards without a credit history or even proof of identity, among other absurdities.

This is what the amnesty fight has all been about--respecting American sovereignty and taking the rights afforded US citizens seriously enough to not pass them around like a used dish rag. And now he gets angry because the slippery-slope of that precedent is benefiting other foreigners who happen to be genocidal terrorists? Astounding.

Also today, Attorney General Michael Mukasey chimed in and noted the ruling would not affect Gitmo trials.

Attorney General Michael Mukasey said the ruling would not affect the Guantanamo trials against enemy combatants, the Associated Press reported. "I think it bears emphasis that the court's decision does not concern military commission trials, which will continue to proceed," Mukasey said in Tokyo today. "Instead it addresses the procedures that the Congress and the president put in place to permit enemy combatants to challenge their detention."

Ultimately, the general assessment is it will mean the ultimate release of most of the terrorists still being held at Gitmo.

Michael Ratner, president of the Center for Constitutional Rights, a New York-based organization that has arranged free defense counsel for the detainees, said he expects to see a large number of them released in the coming months - through federal court orders or the US military's desire to transfer the cases to the detainees' home countries before US officials are forced to present evidence in court.

"A lot of these cases are just going to be gone," Ratner said. "They are not going to have the evidence, and much of the evidence is going to be based on torture or coercion [which is inadmissible in US courts]. It may even mean a death knell of Guantanamo, in terms of holding 260 people without hearings."

It will be a death knell for something, most likely untold numbers of innocent civilians, if these beasts are simply released.

Bush to Award Medal of Freedom to Clinton Lackey Donna Shalala

shalala.jpg

Donna Edna Shalala. Just a little reminder.

In a remarkable exhibition of his liberalism, Bush has announced that free-speech opponent and Clinton lackey Donna Shalala will be given our nation's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Democracy Project
makes their disgust with this clear:

According to a White House press release (Update II, below), President Bush has awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a woman who did her best to stamp out freedom of speech while chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Donna Shalala...Of all the educators in the country to choose from, including those who have suffered under the type of politically correct regimes that Shalala has built up and overseen, the choice of Donna Shalala to receive our nation's highest civilian award is beyond puzzling; it is obscene.

Shalala was architect of the infamous speech code at Wisconsin which, before it was declared unconstitutional in 1991, was among the most draconian in the nation. She also crafted the "Madison Plan" at UW, through which she mandated quotas for hiring minority professors, doubling the number of minority undergraduates, passed an ethnic studies requirement, and opened a multicultural center.

Here is the White House's official announcement:

Cuba Moves Ahead of American Liberals

The slow, plodding, inefficient death of socialism stumbles along. Someone better tell the Dems that even Stone Age socialists know to abandon the scourge of so-called 'progressive values.' Progressive indeed--progressively downward.

Cuba to abandon salary equality

Cuba is to abolish its system of equal pay for all and allow workers and managers to earn performance bonuses, a senior official has announced.

Vice-Minister for Labour Carlos Mateu said the current system - in place since the communist revolution in 1959 - was no longer "convenient".

He said wage differentiation should improve production and services...The minister pointed out that the current wage system sapped employees' incentives to excel since everyone earned the same regardless of performance. "It's harmful to give a worker less than he deserves, it's also harmful to give him what he doesn't deserve," the newspaper article said.

Well, clang, clang, clang goes that trolley. Welcome to the real world, even if you are 49 years late.

Liberals Better Start Wearing Diapers

cryingbaby.jpg

They've been crybabies for so long, it's wonderful they can now have the complete infantile experience.

Activists Preparing Against Use of ‘Brown Note’ at Dem Convention

Political activists planning protest rallies at the upcoming Democratic Convention in Denver have their stomachs in knots over a rumor about a crowd control weapon - known as the “crap cannon” - that might be unleashed against them.

Also called “Brown Note,” it is believed to be an infrasound frequency that debilitates a person by making them defecate involuntarily...Mark Cohen, co-founder of Re-create 68, an alliance of local activists working for the protection of first amendment rights, said he believes this could be deployed at the convention in August to subdue crowds.

His group is preparing against a possible attack by Brown Note and other crowd-control measures by dispatching street medics at the convention trained in treating injuries in demonstration situations.

“It’s all we can do,” Cohen said.

Someone better warn those medics to bring extra Charmin.
