New York Times Reports Staggering Revenue Loss

Times1.jpg

NYT Hdqtrs in New York. Would make some nice loft space, no?

Yes, today's Shock and Awe, with an emphasis on the 'awe' part. Congratulations everyone. For the first time the propaganda rag for the worldwide Left may lay off reporters because of its biggest ad revenue loss in its history. While the economy is shrinking somewhat, there is no doubt the tripe the NYT tries to spin off as objective "news" reporting is being rejected by consumers everywhere. There could be no better news than the failure of the New York Times in its current incarnation. Some reports have ad revenue falling by 9.2 percent, while others note an astronomical drop of 11.1 percent. Either way, it's a disaster for a newspaper whose current owners thought it was a good idea to make the newspaper into a leftist pamphlet. Our response? From newspaper to toilet paper. Keep it up my friends.

New York Times Swings To Loss

New York Times Co. said Thursday it swung to a first- quarter loss, hurt by a charge and a steep decline in advertising revenue at its newspapers... New York Times Co. (NYT) lost $335,000, equivalent to breakeven on a per-share basis. In the same quarter a year earlier, the company earned $23.9 million, or 17 cents a share...

The company said in February that the New York Times would need to cut its newsroom staff by about 100 positions. Late Tuesday, employees were notified that the paper would fall short in its goal to have most of those jobs eliminated by voluntary buyouts, meaning that there will probably be layoffs.

First-quarter revenue at the company's newspaper properties fell 5.7%, to $ 719.7 million. Ad revenue fell 9.2%...

The New York Times Co also owns the Boston Globe, the Little Leftist Sister of the NYT, and an even bigger failure.

Boston Globe March ad revenue plunges

The New England Media Group, the bulk of which is made up of the Globe, saw a 25.9 decrease in ad revenue in March compared to the same period last year. The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) said the freefall was mainly due to decreases in the travel, automotive, banking, telecommunications and financial services categories.

For the first quarter, the New England Media Group, which also contains the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, posted a 9.3 percent loss in revenue compared to first quarter of 2007.

The Times Co. reported a companywide drop of 6.4 percent in March. Ad revenue dropped 11.1 percent...

The American Thinker has more thinking on the more-than-welcomes freefall. Remember, just because something seems to have always been here, like the NYT or the IRS, doesn't mean it deserves to continue to exist. The truth is, when something has become not only useless, but a scourge to the American way, like both of those entities, it's time for them to go quietly into the night. And if they won't let's drag them, shall we?

LA Times: Mormons and Muslims the Same

lebanon-muslims.jpg

Muslims on a pilgrimage

mormonmissionaries01.jpg

Mormons on a mission. Yeah, I can't tell the difference, can you?

Gee, I wonder why they'd be making that comparison? Maybe it's because they think McCain may choose Romney as his VP? Why not get a head start with an underlying inference and tell the American people Romney is, essentially, just like an Islamist!

U.S. Muslims and Mormons share deepening ties

The Mormon Church has to be among the most outgoing on earth; in recent years its leaders have reached out to, among others, Latinos, Koreans, Catholics and Jews. One of the most enthusiastic responses, however, has come from what some might consider a surprising source: U.S. Muslims...

Both religions strongly emphasize family. They tend toward patriarchy, believing in feminine modesty, chastity and virtue. And although Islam discourages dancing involving both sexes, Mormons report that church-sponsored "modesty proms" commonly draw Islamic youths.

Both faiths adhere to religion-based health codes, including prohibitions against alcohol, but Mormons and Muslims share something more: membership in quickly growing minority religions that many other Americans have sometimes viewed with suspicion and scorn.

Armand L. Mauss, a Mormon and professor emeritus of sociology at Washington State University specializing in religious movements, said that unlike mainstream Christians and Jews, Muslims and Mormons "tend to make fairly stringent demands for religious conformity on their members." These practices, he said, include discouraging marriage outside the religion and observing dietary laws, such as the Mormon prohibition against tobacco, alcohol and caffeine.

Ooh, I guess the Amish and Quakers are just like Muslims, too! But why don't they mention that?

What binds them has little to do with theology: Mormons venerate Jesus as interpreted by founder Joseph Smith, while Muslims view Muhammad as god's prophet. Based on shared values and a sense of isolation from mainstream America, the connection was intensified by 9/11 and cemented by the Southeast Asia tsunami. It is especially evident in Southern California, with large Mormons and Muslim populations...

For Mormons, Mauss says, the problem is polygamy, which, though rejected by the mainstream church more than a century ago, is still the first thing that occurs to many Americans when they think about the religion.

Well, now we can add "just like Muslims" to the misconception. Make no mistake--the Left fears Romney and knows he would be McCain's best VP choice making that ticket hard to beat. Let's see if McCain takes the bait.

Great News: CBS News Forced to Make Cuts

One of the best examples of an American media institution devolving into a Leftist Propaganda machine, CBS News is finding out what happens when you abandon journalistic principles and alienate the American public--first you you lose audience, then you lose money, then, and we can only hope, your "news" operation collapses completely.

CBS Corp. makes cuts

CBS Corp. is doing some belt-tightening at its TV news and TV stations businesses.

Anchors and reporters are among the employees who have been laid off at such CBS stations as WCBS New York, KCBS Los Angeles, WBZ Boston, KYW Philadelphia, KPIX San Francisco, WBBM Chicago and KVOR Sacramento.

Great work everyone. Let's hope this is just the beginning. The Dan Rather fake National Guard memos, meant to smear President Bush and alter a presidential election, alone are enough to root for the collapse of CBS News. And And while local stations are the focus of this news, with genius decisions like bring on Katie Couric for the national news, more meltdown at that level can't be far behind.

Typhoid Fever in New York

A New York food service worker has been diagnosed with Typhoid Fever. And of course the 'authorities' are refusing to tell us from what underdeveloped country the man is from or from where his friends and families were 'visiting.'

Food worker at Hicksville pizzeria has typhoid fever

A kitchen worker at a Hicksville pizzeria has contracted typhoid fever, putting more than 100 customers at risk for the .potentially deadly bacterial infection, the Nassau County Department of Health and the restaurant said Saturday...

Authorities would identify the kitchen worker only as a New York City man. He worked without symptoms on March 14 and 15, and had some symptoms on March 16, authorities said. He called in sick on March 17, Steinberg said.

Typhoid is a bacterial infection passed on through eating food or drinking water containing infected feces or urine. It is rare in developed countries...The disease may have been passed to the kitchen worker from relatives visiting from overseas, authorities said, though they would not say from what country or when the relatives visited.

Let's see, a kitchen worker at Sbarros. Yeah, absolutely a Swede. From overseas? How about from 'overboarder'? And the relatives visited? So suddenly we have illegal aliens who just came for a minute, go all the way to New York, and go back? Now that is a story! It's amazing what the Establishment Media and so-called authorities go through in a ridiculous attempt to cover-up how illegal aliens are one of the primary health threats to this country.

How exactly a 'guest worker' program is supposed to change this situation and protect us from people who come from a nation with no national immunization program, no national sanitation standards, and no national healthcare network or database (and that would be Mexico, now Sweden) is beyond me.

Reuters' Love Letter to Hamas

Just a bit more evidence that the Establishment Media is not only biased against the United States, but even sympathizes with mass murdering terrorists. Here is their latest romantic view of a man setting out to murder innocent people.

Hamas fighters battle on inspired by God

GAZA (Reuters) - Abu Mohammed picked up his rifle, said farewell to his wife and six children and went out to face the Israeli tanks, helicopter gunships and missile-firing airborne drones.

"Being unable to defeat Israel is no reason to surrender," the Hamas fighter said with a smile as he headed to the Gaza Strip's front line last Saturday, ignoring pleas from his family to stay.

"My children and wife are very dear to me," he said. "But reward in Heaven and the homeland are dearer." The 38-year-old furniture salesman says he is not afraid to die for the cause of destroying Israel and forging a Palestinian state on all Israel's territory, the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

To Israel and its allies, Abu Mohammed and his comrades are Jew-hating terrorists. But Abu Mohammed sees himself on a mission from God to rescue his people from 60 years of misery as refugees since the establishment of the Jewish state in 1948.

Though that conviction may, in some, mingle with bravado and self-interest, it does make Hamas an enemy to be reckoned with, for all that Israel's hi-tech army easily outguns their rifles, home-made rockets and, if they choose, their suicide bomb belts.

After five days of air strikes and ground assaults that it said aimed to halt Hamas rocket fire, Israel pulled out its troops on Monday after appeals from the United States that followed at international outcry at the dozens of civilians among over 100 dead...

Oh brother. Israel, once again, gets attacked for defending itself. And we're the ones who tell them to stop. Disgusting.

NYT Hit Piece Helped McCain

mccains.jpg

Now the dust has settled, it's clear the attempt by the NYT to hit McCain not only failed, it has indeed done what nothing else could--cast McCain as sympathetic in the eyes of Conservatives. I'm one who was surprised to find myself feeling protective of him and his wife. I also found it slightly apropos as a lesson McCain needed to learn--when you cozy up to the Establishment Media, it's like letting a scorpion ride on your back across the pond--the scorpion will kill you, even when the end result will include its own demise. It's simply the nature of the EM to reach out and destroy. The NYT in particular is the primary tumor of the malicious leftist EM in this country. Their attack on McCain makes it clear, they hate not just Conservatives (McCain is certainly not that) but will try to take out the one candidate who has refused include surrendering to the enemy as part of his campaign platform.

Some of you may not be moved by this event. My final decision about McCain still rests on his Veep choice, and other actions he must take to win me, but I'm certainly more sympathetic to him, if only because the NYT has confirmed he is not as much in their pocket as I imagined.

Here's a Politico piece assessing the McCain response and Conservative reaction. Is it, though, your reaction?

McCain turns tables on Times

Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign claimed vindication Thursday night after a sophisticated 24-hour counterattack turned a potentially lethal story in The New York Times into a conservative call to arms.

The piece about McCain’s friendly relations with a telecommunications lobbyist — long-discussed in political circles and planned for weeks by McCain operatives — was the first test of his ability to confront a public-relations crisis since becoming the GOP’s presumptive nominee.

But the reaction may have said as much about the mindset of the conservative movement on the brink of the general election as it did about McCain and his team.

Fox News: Most Trusted Name in News

Hmm, I bet this surprises CNN just a tad. (HT Inside Cable News via Hot Air).

A Sacred Heart University Poll found significantly declining percentages of Americans saying they believe all or most of media news reporting. In the current national poll, just 19.6% of those surveyed could say they believe all or most news media reporting. This is down from 27.4% in 2003. Just under one-quarter, 23.9%, in 2007 said they believe little or none of reporting while 55.3% suggested they believe some media news reporting...

The most trusted national TV news organizations, for accurate reporting, in declining order included: Fox News (27.0%), CNN (14.6%), and NBC News (10.90%). These were followed by ABC News (7.0%), local news (6.9%), CBS News (6.8%) MSNBC (4.0%), PBS News (3.0%), CNBC (0.6%) and CBN (0.5%).

In 2003, CNN led Fox News on "trust most for accurate reporting" 23.8% to 14.6%.

Texan of the Year: The Illegal Alien

=Texans of the Year!!

According to the Dallas Morning News. One little newsflash factoid to that birdcage liner--illegal aliens aren't Texans. You have to be a citizen to be called that. Read all about it with one of the most racist, pandering editorials I've ever read in my life.

2007 DMN Texan of the Year: The Illegal Immigrant

He's the Illegal Immigrant, and he's the 2007 Dallas Morning News Texan of the Year – for better or for worse. Given the public mood, there seems to be little middle ground in debate over illegal immigrants. Spectacular fights over their presence broke out across Texas this year, adding to the national pressure cooker as only Texas can.

To their champions, illegal immigrants are decent, hardworking people who, like generations of European immigrants before them, [Hahahahaha! Yeah, just like all the other immigration into this country] just want to do better for their families and who contribute to America's prosperity. They must endure hatred and abuse by those of us who want the benefits of cheap labor but not the presence of illegal immigrants.

Especially here in Texas, his strong back and willing heart help form the cornerstone of our daily lives, in ways that many of us do not, or will not, see. The illegal immigrant is the waiter serving margaritas at our restaurant table, the cook preparing our enchiladas. He works grueling hours at a meatpacking plant, carving up carcasses of cattle for our barbecue (he also picks the lettuce for our burgers). He builds our houses and cuts our grass. She cleans our homes and takes care of our children...

This essay cannot put a name or a face to an illegal immigrant, because that would subject him to possible deportation. Because he lives underground, the illegal immigrant becomes, in our rancorous debate, less a complex human being and more a blank screen upon which both sides can project their hopes and fears.

In the same article, one of the more interesting comments from Mike Huckabee, revealing just how clueless and idiotic that man really is:

GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee, born again as an immigration hard-liner, told The New Yorker this month that wherever he campaigns, immigration is the first thing voters ask about. "It's just red hot," he says, "and I don't fully understand it."

I'm sure he doesn't.

Erin Burnett of NBC Apologizes to President Bush

For calling him a monkey on the air. Yeah, and she even says she respects him, which she probably doesn't. Heck, even I don't any more. I used to. I don't hate him, and I don't want anything bad to happen to him, I even care about him, but I don't respect him anymore. (Open borders. Amnesty. Big Government. Spending out of control. Meeting with terrorists in Annapolis. Not killing al-Sadr, bin Laden, Zawahiri, et al. Need I go on?).

And yes, I forgive her, because she's pretty, even bordering on the adorable, and smart. She was even cute pretending about the respect thing. I know it's not reasonable, and I feel guilty about this, but I'll get over it.

AP Slobbers All Over Hillary After Hostage Crisis

After reading this story, I feel like I need a cigarette and a shower. And they didn't even buy me dinner.

Clinton Calm in Hostage Crisis

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - When the hostages had been released and their alleged captor arrested, a regal-looking Hillary Rodham Clinton strolled out of her Washington home, the picture of calm in the face of crisis...the Democratic presidential contender can face disorder in a most orderly manner...

...It was a vintage example of a candidate taking a negative and turning it into a positive...

...Clinton immediately canceled her trip and began working the phones...she had New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, a fellow Democrat, on the phone in eight minutes...Clinton continued to call up and down the law enforcement food chain...the woman striving to move from former first lady to the first female president was eager to convey that she knew the traditional lines of command and control in a crisis... Along with taking charge while giving the professionals free rein, Clinton offered up a third dimension to her crisis character: humanity. She said she felt "grave concern" when she first heard the news of the hostage-taking.

...Clinton sought to use the sad moment as a national teaching opportunity, another skill often employed by presidents...She paid tribute to the thousands of believers...

And then she parted the Red Sea, rescued the Jews from the hands of the Pharaoh, raised Lazarus from the dead, and then walked on water back to Iowa.

[AP] EDITOR'S NOTE—Glen Johnson has covered local, state and national politics since 1985. He covers the 2008 presidential race for The Associated Press. [And is obviously completely objective. I'm sure he doesn't even know who he's voting for yet. If he does, it sure is a good thing he doesn't let it affect his coverage as a 'journalist'.]

Was it as good for you as it was for him?

A Tale of Two Editors

A post by Maynard

Here's another peek at the blatant self-hating double-standard that permeates the academic landscape.

FoxNews reports:

The student editor of the Colorado State University newspaper was admonished Thursday for the paper's use of an obscenity in an editorial about President Bush but David McSwane will be allowed to keep his job.

Okay, fair enough. Some university papers glory in their verbal vitriol and angry rhetoric. This may be tasteless or vulgar at times, but we give the media a lot of leeway in this country. We take our First Amendment rights seriously (and I wish we'd do the same for the Second Amendment — but that's another topic). Can you ever remember a case of anyone at a student paper losing his position for editorial excess?

Hmmm, now that I mention it, last year the editor of The Daily Illini at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was summarily dismissed after publishing the notorious Mohammed cartoons. This was, you'll recall, the biggest news story in the world for a time, and the mainstream media displayed uncharacteristic sensitivity in omitting the essential details of what the story was really all about. The media, which is so brave when it comes to exposing anything negative about America (think about, for example, prison photos from Abu Ghraib, or classified details of covert anti-terrorism operations, or artistic ordure like "Piss Christ") suddenly started worrying about offending people.

The fired Illini editor, Acton Gordon, describes his experience here.

Hillary's Retoractive Religion

Saint Hillary

A post by Maynard

Drudge linked to this Washington Post article about Hillary's religiosity. It's a puff piece of historical revisionism. It describes of Hillary's long religious history, and indeed the long religious history of the Democrat party in pursuit of the Christian ideal of "economic justice".

This would all be well and good if the story were "truthy". But anyone who lived through the Clinton presidency knows we didn't hear much in the way of religious rhetoric from co-President Rodham until recently. Neither did Bill Clinton exude any particular religiosity, except for frequent politicking in black churches (because he was the self-proclaimed "first black president"). This isn't to say that there were no church-oriented publicity photos, but nobody ever accused the Clintons of being "too religious", as they do with Mr. Bush.

Clinton briefly found God when the Lewinsky affair came crashing down, and he decided his repentance would be accomplished with the aid of rigorous spiritual counseling. The Reverend Jesse Jackson heard the call and rushed to Washington, accompanied by Karin Stanford, Jackson's assistant (and also his mistress and mother of his "love child" — but we didn't know about that part yet).

Okay, so the Clinton White House was not the most pious of places, and that's okay. What irks me is the blatant lying. These people must think we're incredibly stupid.

Contrast the Post's newly-minted history with your own memories, and add this little note about how Hillary hired an evangelical consultant to boost her stock with the non-Left, and the picture becomes clearer:

Burns Strider, one of the Democratic Party’s leading strategists on winning over evangelicals and other values-driven voters, will join Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as she prepares to launch her 2008 presidential campaign.

Strider now heads religious outreach for the House Democratic Caucus, and is the lead staffer for the Democrats’ Faith Working Group, headed by incoming Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.).

Incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) created the working group in 2005 when Democratic strategists recognized that the party lost ground in the previous election because of trouble appealing to centrist and conservative voters in rural areas, who tend to be church-goers driven by moral issues. Strider was an aide to Pelosi when the group formed and joined Clyburn’s staff as policy director of the Democratic Caucus in 2006.

Strider’s move to Clinton’s camp suggests that Democrats will woo so-called faith voters in the 2008 election. The plan is buoyed by the Democrats’ success in winning over religious voters in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania in the midterm elections.

In this critical era, it's disturbing that so many politicians are either themselves morons, or they believe we are morons.

On O'Reilly Tonight About The American Gestapos

**UPDATE 9/27: Hot Air has the video and a great discussion going on. Thanks Bryan :) **

One of the most damaging and dangerous events in American society and politics has been the co-option of the Democratic Party by George Soros and his establishment of a variety of leftist special interest groups which essentially act as political and media gestapos.

Tonight on O'Reilly we'll be talking about the increasing attacks he's been under by the Soros Media Gestapo, Media Matters. Once again, the left, via MM, has resorted to their default position in attempting to demonize someone, specifically by calling O'Reilly a racist.

But the story isn't O'Reilly noting that the black community in New York is not as helpless or victimized or "different" from everyone else as victimiologists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson like to portray. No, the real story is the fact that we have gestapos out there determined to demonize independent voices who dare to criticize the leftist status quo as designed by George Soros.

In actuality, Media Matters' message, when they attack a Bill O'Reilly is really a message to everyone else: Look at what we do to him if he says something we can twist. Imagine what we can do to you. Also meant as an intimidating warning is the fact that MM (the new SS) tapes and watches everything non-leftists do and say in the media.

Ultimately, you will see these sorts of attacks ramped up as we move into the 12 months prior to the '08 election. The left, Soros, and his political and media thugs, cannot withstand independent voices and they will work overtime to silence them. Let's make sure these new gestapos fail.

I've already posted a link to the Investor's Business Daily investigation to George Soros, and that link will stay there, but it's worth noting here as well. David Horowitz's "Discover the Networks" also provides an excellent backgrounder on Soros and his insidious agenda.

UPDATE:

The segment will be very close to the opening of the show. I think he opens with an interview with Al Sharpton, and then comes to me .

UPDATE 9/27:

For those of you emailing me claiming that George Soros has nothing to do with Media Matters, let me disabuse you of that notion. Here's some background you should be aware of which details the association with Soros and the efforts to keep that as obscure as possible.

Media Matters for America (MMA) spokeswoman Sally Aman responded to Cybercast News Service's questions with an e-mail. "In response to your query regarding donor funding Media Matters for America has never received funding directly [emphasis mine] from George Soros," Aman stated, no longer denying any relationship with organizations affiliated with Soros.

So, for those of you liberals who honestly support this effort, you must ask yourself and MM, Why is the association with Soros being obscured? Why the word games? It's a simple question and one they don't want to have to answer. If you're serious about wanting clear background information about Media Matters (and I know plenty of clear thinking liberals who are not afraid of information) here are two backgrounders: one for Soros and where his tentacles lead and one on Media Matters.

Ahmadinejad Slithers Around New York

Making all the "progressives," who sadly missed the 1930s and with it their chance to invite Hitler to speeches and parties, really excited.

My favorite "progressive" apologist and defender of Ahmadinejad this morning is Juan Cole over at Salon. Here my friends, is moral relativism and nihilism manifest:

There is, in fact, remarkably little substance to the debates now raging in the United States about Ahmadinejad. His quirky personality, penchant for outrageous one-liners, and combative populism are hardly serious concerns for foreign policy. Taking potshots at a bantam cock of a populist like Ahmadinejad is actually a way of expressing another, deeper anxiety: fear of Iran's rising position as a regional power and its challenge to the American and Israeli status quo [yeah--like existence--T]. The real reason his visit is controversial is that the American right has decided the United States needs to go to war against Iran. Ahmadinejad is therefore being configured as an enemy head of state.

Just to give you a reminder of what Cole considers a quirky populist. Some choice "one-liners" from Ahmadinejad:

"Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury."

"Remove Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations."

"The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny. The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in Palestinian land. As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map."

"If the West does not support Israel, this regime will be toppled. As it has lost its raison d' tre, Israel will be annihilated."

"Israel is a tyrannical regime that will one day will be destroyed."

"Israel is a rotten, dried tree that will be annihilated in one storm."

Personally I find Jew-hatred, threats of mass destruction, and misogyny, all hallmarks of every Islamic regime, repulsive and worthy of derision and rejection. Who knew this is why a Democrat like me would be at such odds with today's co-called "liberals."

McCann Latest: Police May Not Have "Concrete" Evidence

mccann2.jpg

Kate McCann

You know, as opposed to actual, real, not-made-up stories for public consumption that have absolutely no basis in reality, but are meant to save your tourist trade...that sort of Not Concrete Evidence. Notice though what the BBC headline is, while the real news is buried at the end of the story--that of the Portuguese press reporting the growing belief that there's no concrete evidence against the couple at all.

McCann dismisses overdose claim

The father of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann has dismissed a French press report that his daughter died from an overdose of sleeping pills.

Gerry McCann said the accusation by France Soir newspaper was "ludicrous"...Portuguese press have also reported that detectives may not have any "concrete" evidence to charge the couple as DNA traces of Madeleine in the holiday apartment and a rental car did not prove anything conclusive.

This is London, from the Evening Standard, actually runs with the actual news headline. They note it's the police who have admitted not having 'concrete evidence' implicating the McCanns. This article also provides a general overview of where things stand now, which is in the Land of the Increasingly Absurd.

Portuguese police 'don't have enough evidence to charge Madeleine's parents'

Portuguese police do not have enough evidence yet to charge Kate and Gerry McCann over the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine.

Senior sources admitted there was "nothing concrete" to bring a prosecution.

A source at the Policia Judiciara said today: "There are lots of indications but without more elements it is impossible to determine what has happened in the almost four hours vital to the case from 6pm [on 3 May, when Madeleine vanished].

The Best News Magazine

Maynard's (qualified) recommendation for where to get news

My favorite general news magazine is The Economist. It's pretty much what Time and Newsweak claim to be (but they're not). Read it if you want to know what's going on in the world.

The Economist also offers editorial suggestions that render it, in a sense, a global shadow government. I agree with its advocacy more often than not.

I'll balance my praise with this observation: The Economist is philosophically materialistic. The editorial positions and analyses seek to maximize prosperity and freedom. What else would you expect from a magazine called "The Economist"?

Forbes Wonders If Women 40+ Are Sexy Enough

sexcity.jpg

Case in point, according to Forbes, the new "Sex and the City" film which features the women who starred in the series, all of whom are now in their 40s, or in Kim Cattrall's case, early 50s. This fact alone may doom the film. Their theory? There are already so many women 40+ out there in Entertainment Land, the market may be "saturated" condemning the movie to flophood. I kid you not. Apparently, that "saturation" concept doesn't apply to old, white, pasty men 40+ or to every other cultural framework being swamped by 20-something little girls.

Nope, there's only so much room for 40-something women, and you better not have too many. Which, btw, is not a very savvy marketing or programming concept, considering the fact that women now comprise 60% of the consumer base, and we 40-something-plus are the generation in control of society, politics, and the economy. And yes, believe it or not, we don't mind seeing ourselves portrayed, especially as hot and sexy. Which we are. To hear this backward, parochial 1950s concept regurgitated by a young woman (the Forbes talking head) in 2007 is, to say the least, disheartening.

Unfortunately, to watch this little Forbes segment, they subject you to some commercials. But take a look, just to keep an eye on the new spin.

Establishment Media Corruption Roundup

Brought to us by Randall Hoven at American Thinker. t's an astounding compendium and another example of why every Elite Establishment out there views the internet, bloggers and Commoners everywhere as the enemy.

It's Not Just Scott Beauchamp

Scott Beauchamp was the last straw. I realized that I need a scorecard to keep track of all the fallen journalists, journalistic mistakes and major and minor screw-ups in the media. I couldn't find one already made, although Wikipedia came close, so I started my own. I apologize if there is a good list already out there, but I looked and could not find.

Offenses include lying and fabricating, doctoring photos, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, falling for hoaxes, and overt bias. Some are hilarious, such as an action figure doll being mistaken for a real soldier. Some are silly, such as reporting on a baseball game watched on TV. Some are more serious...

New Yorker Mag Cries a River For 9/11 Mastermind

KSMohammed.jpg

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, after his capture in Pakistan (of course)

I'll have to take another 1/2 Tylenol PM tonight to get over this news. Isn't it fascinating, though, how the Establishment Media remains obsessed with recasting Islamist terrorists as victims? Or, more accurately, the United States as the villain? It still astounds me the EM still thinks Americans can be brainwashed into believing we're the bad guys. Or maybe they think the far-left is indeed the only audience they have remaining.

New Yorker: CIA Tactics Amount To Torture

Magazine: The CIA Used Techniques Equivalent To Torture While Interrogating 9/11 Mastermind

The Central Intelligence Agency used "enhanced interrogation techniques" synonymous with torture while interrogating September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, according to a New Yorker article that appears on newsstands Monday.

After Mohammed's capture in Pakistan in 2003, the CIA detained him at one of several secret overseas prisons, known as "black sites," and subjected him to unusually harsh treatment...

cryingbaby.jpg

It was under these interrogation methods that Mohammed confessed to 31 criminal plots, including the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was captured in 2002 in Pakistan and beheaded, Jane Mayer reports in the New Yorker...

"The Red Cross went in and got to interview these people for the first time," said Mayer on the CBS Evening News. "What these people described was hanging from the ceilings by their arms and being water-boarded, partially drowned, put on leashes and knocked into walls and basically deprived of all kinds of sensory imagery for years."

cryingbaby.jpg

Let's see, the mastermind of September 11th and al-Qaida terror leader deprived of sensory stuff. Sorta like when you cut someone's head off? Or what the people in the WTC experienced? Or the terror the kids at the Beslan school felt before they were shot in the back? Oh wait, their sensory deprivation is forever. Big difference there. Oh yeah, and none of those people were mass murderers, planning more mass murder.

Yeah, cry me a river and then throw away the effin key, until we need to drag his sorry ass out so we can arrange that meeting with Allah.

"24"'s New Enemy? Climate Change

jackbauer.jpg

Sutherland as Bauer, wondering, no doubt, how he's gonna kill all that weather

I kid you not. think today's world has enough real-life bad guys so television people wouldn't have to resort to confronting the Left's made-up enemy.

But then again, Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" scared a lot of people too, and that enemy didn't exist either.

Jack Bauer's Next Mission: Fighting Global Warming

From "An Inconvenient Truth" to popularizing the Prius, Hollywood has helped lead the way on some environmental issues. One of the latest initiatives: Cool Change, Fox's company-wide program to reduce the network's impact on global warming. As part of that effort, the seventh season of "24" will take steps to reduce and offset the carbon emissions from the show's production, with the goal of having the season finale be entirely carbon-neutral...

The show's electricity bills will go toward renewable-energy credits that will bring a share of wind, solar and water power to Los Angeles's grid. A diesel-powered soundstage will be converted to electricity, thus lessening the show's contribution to the local air pollution problem, and the show's five location scouts will be given Priuses to drive. Scripts, schedules and memos -- which used to be hand-delivered by car -- will be sent via e-mail.

The "24" page at Fox.com now features energy conservation tips and a public service announcement about global warming featuring Kiefer Sutherland; more information will be posted when the show airs in January. Plus, climate change will be incorporated into the series' plot (which just might scare some viewers into taking action).

Yeah, it's sure going to 'scare' me into action, like taking "24" off my Tivo recording schedule. It was nice while it lasted.

Ann Coulter Answers the Edwards Slime

During the past few days it's amazing how the Edwards' suddenly decided to go after Ann Coulter. One has to ask, Why? Considering Ann isn't running for president, why are Edwardses so obsessed with her. The answer, of course, is money. Once an ambulance chaser, always an ambulance chaser.

Here's the deal: the 2nd quarter fund-raiser date is here. This is the point where candidates have to reveal how much money they've raised. This announcement can make or break a campaign. As a matter of fact, days before the Edwards attack on Ann, it was revealed that Edwards' fundraising for the 2nd quarter has plunged. Other people will draw conclusions, good or bad, on the relevancy of your campaign based on the money you have. Edwards himself is vacant and void of ideas, making complaining about Coulter his best fundraising vehicle. Obviously, they needed her again.

As a matter of fact, the night Elizabeth Edwards called into Hardball to sandbag Ann, the Edwards campaign dropped a fundraising email about the confrontation. It included a note from Elizabeth urging donations.

And they accuse Ann of 'lowering the debate' and cynicism. The Edwards, IMHO, are the sleaziest people in this campaign. Sleazier than even Hillary. We don't like Hillary's ideas, but at least she has some. Edwards is a homophobe who is now apparently using his cancer-striken wife with the hope that people will be less inclined to question her motives or confront her. Remember, cancer doesn't elevate or transform the moral foundation of a person, especially when they're as opportunist as the Edwardses.

Here's Ann's answer to the absurdity:

THAT WAS NO LADY — THAT WAS MY HUSBAND

The Edwards campaign is apparently still running low on donations, so this week they went back to their top fundraiser: me...

I think I may have tuned out at some point, so I can only speak to the first 45 minutes of Elizabeth Edwards' harangue, but it mostly consisted of utterly dishonest renditions of things I had said on my "Good Morning America" interview this week and a column I wrote four years ago. (You can't rush Edwards' "rapid response team"!) She claimed I had launched unprovoked attacks on the Edwards' dead son and called for a terrorist attack on her husband.

These are bald-faced lies, and the mainstream media knows they are lies. Yet they were repeated ad nauseam on Wednesday by The Associated Press, the AOL pop-up window, CNN, NBC and — stunningly — the host of the lowest-rated cable show himself, who personally told me he knew the truth...

So for those of you who haven't read any of my five best-selling books: Liberals are driven by Satan and lie constantly...

The Problem of Media Versus the Military

The issues we face today aren't necessarily new or unique. Example: the attitude and of the Establishment Media versus the military (HT SondraK).

"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I’m readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I’ll, in turn, do my best for the cause by writing editorials - after the fact."

Who said it? You'll be surprised. (Answer after the jump).

On O'Reilly Factor Tonight About Juneteenth Violence

Probably about :30 past the hour or so. The segment is about the lack of coverage of violence at three Juneteenth celebrations. There has been a few newspaper stories, but nothing really extensive. My point was the media, like everyone else, has been made afraid to discuss issues that involve race. Yet, ignoring violence like this. committed primarily by young people, further isolates communities. The real racism here is not discussing violence involving Americans who happen to be black, but in ignoring serious social issues and the continuing despair in the inner city.

I brought up the fact that at gay pride festivals, where you have the same dynamic of thousands of people drinking, partying, live entertainment, etc, people don't kill each other, and bystanders aren't attacked. The man they had opposite me, some talk show host from Oregon, started out with some classic homophobia, about homosexuals and pedophilia, and then went on to argue that talking about this was some sort of conspiracy to make black people look bad, or something of that sort.

I'll tell you, the ignorance out there is astounding. For those of you not familiar with the Juneteenth violence in Austin, Milwaukee and Syracuse (and many of you won't be because the EM isn't covering it), here are some links.

And When Will The NYT Investigate George Soros?

That question, of course, is rhetorical. The answer is "never" especially when the "investigation" you launch into is actually nothing more than you doing the bidding of the man you should be investigating--George Soros. Murdoch, as an example, has not declared himself the messiah, he has never publicly declared that he intends to spend his fortune on seating or unseating an American president, nor has he been found guilty of Insider Trading by a government. Funny enough, though, it's not Soros they're interested in, who has done all those things. Gee, I wonder why.

The NYT has indeed launched a massive "investigation" into Rupert Murdoch and News Corp., and one does have to, shall I say, question the timing. Gee, as we launch into presidential campaigns, the Dems try to shut out Fox News from debates and coverage, and now the completely independent, absolutely not an organ for the Soros Gestapo, decides, in today's world or war and terrorism, that the most important person they should spend enormous resources on "investigating" is...Murdoch.

But it certainly has absolutely nothing to do with partisan politics and the desire to shut down a venue that offers a hearing for alternative ideas and voices. Alternative from the lefitst status quo, that is. No conflict of interest there as television's coverage of the news continues to eat away at newspaper circulation. Nope, nothing to see here folks except a publicly held company working to undermine what they see as a political/business/philosophical rival.

Welcome to Germany, Italy and Japan, 1934.

Times Undertakes Multi-Bureau Rupert Murdoch Investigation

The New York Times is currently undertaking a major news investigation, led by managing editor Jill Abramson, into News Corp.’s business dealings throughout the world, according to a source with knowledge of the project.

...[S]he told The Observer in an e-mail on May 26, executive editor Bill Keller has kept her quite busy.

“Bill has asked me to lead an investigative project for the next month, which I’ll mainly do from home,” Ms. Abramson wrote at the time. “It involves a group of domestic and foreign reporters, but I obviously can’t tell you what it is.”

The investigative project also includes, according to a source at The Times, investigative editor Matt Purdy and reporters Jo Becker (in New York), Jane Perlez (in London) and Joseph Kahn (in Beijing).

Why are the Left and the Dems desperate to silence Fox News? And make no mistake--this is what this is all about. They know they need opposing voices to be silenced if they are to gain power in this nation. They have no hope of doing so as long as talk radio, the internet and the one television channel that allows non-leftist opinion to be heard, operate freely. Whether it be bringing back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," or public campaigns to marginalize programming and radio hosts, or boycott campaigns to destroy sponsorship, or so-called investigations meant to intimidate and destroy, the goals are all the same--silence opposing viewpoints, silence those who do not pay allegiance to the Soros/Leftist Gestapo.

The only way the Dark can prevail is by turning off the Light. It's up to us to make sure this sort of Intimidation Campaign does not succeed. IAs I aks you in my book, The New American Revolution, boycott the New York Times. Check your stock holdings, mutual funds especially, and find out of you've bought NYT stock, and divest. Do not support them in any fashion, and let them know what you are doing.

It's not "investigations" that bother me, it's the use of one to intimidate a political and philosophical rival into silence. Now if they were doing a simultaneous, equal "investigation: into Soros, my point would be moot, but they aren't and won't. It
