Israeli Civilian Builds Retaliatory Rocket

Homemade rocket
Don't try this at home, kids!

A post by Maynard

Ever since Israel withdrew from Gaza and Hamas took over, southern Israel has been bombarded by rockets. The Israeli government is squeezed between citizens demanding the rocket fire be stopped, and other nations objecting to anything Israel might do to stop it.

Here is one man's solution:

Ashkelon resident Moshe Nissimpor decided that the best way to halt rocket fire from Gaza — in light of what he terms the government's failure to do so — is some vigilante justice.

Nissimpor developed a homemade 200-millimeter ballistic missile which he planned to launch from Ashkelon into the Gaza Strip.

"From this day onwards, we will push back to the stone age every place which dares shoot missiles into Israel's sovereign territory," he said Wednesday. "It is time the world understood Israelis' lives are not expendable."

"I'm afraid this is the only language the Palestinians understand, and this is the language in which we'll speak to them. I have many Gazan Palestinian friends who live as Hamas hostages. Once we bring an end to the rocket fire, Gaza's residents will also live in peace," he said.

Mr. Nissimpor took his rocket to town, but it was seized by police as he prepared for launch. I'm guessing that Nissimpor felt he made his point.

Earth and the Moon, As Seen from Mars

Funny how we can get this glorious picture of Earth and the moon as seen from our Mars orbiter, but getting the 'Virtual' Border Fence to work proved just too difficult. Yeah, right.

Vote Tomorrow Because Joe Probably Will

Here is the best I can do when it comes to trying to scare some of you into a) voting and b) voting for Romney. My guess? Odds are quite high "Joe" is not a Romniac and will very probably vote. I'm just sayin. Oh, a lot of the language is not suitable for children. Of course.

UPDATE:

Because some of you are Smart Asses, let me rephrase: "If you have a primary or caucus tomorrow, please vote. And I will add, whenever your primary or caucus is vote and make that vote for Romney. :)"

It Must Be That Lack of Gun Control Out There

And let's not dismiss that difficult birth childhood it had, either.

Astronomers Astonished by Violence of Universe

WASHINGTON — The deeper astronomers gaze into the cosmos, the more they find it's a bizarre and violent universe.

The research findings from this week's annual meeting of U.S. astronomers range from blue orphaned baby stars to menacing "rogue" black holes that roam our galaxy, devouring any planets unlucky enough to be within their limited reach...When astronomers this week unveiled a giant map of mysterious dark matter in a supercluster of galaxies, they explained that the violence of the cramped-together galaxies is so great that there is now an accepted vocabulary for various types of cosmic brutal behavior.

The gravitational force between the clashing galaxies can cause "slow strangulation," in which crucial gas is gradually removed from the victim galaxy. "Stripping" is a more violent process in which the larger galaxy rips gas from the smaller one.

Then there's "harassment," which is a quick fly-by encounter, said astronomer Meghan Gray of the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.

With all this violence, it's amazing how the universe has survive without any governmental regulation, isn't it?

The Solar System Is Dented

Either the biggest shopping cart in the universe is out there causing havoc, or nature, specifically the magnetic field, is messing with the perfection of the solar system. How this could have happened without humans being at fault is beyond me. How will The Goracle find a way to blame us for this, too?

Or reasonable people just might conclude that nature has a mind of its own, and sometimes changes things dramatically, and causes major disturbances. Imagine--something really big and remarkable happening without Us being responsible, or even remotely involved. I know, the Narcissist's Nightmare. How can Al sleep at night?

Voyager 2 finds solar system's shape is 'dented'

NASA's Voyager 2 spacecraft has found that our solar system is not round but is "dented" by the local interstellar magnetic field of deep space, space experts said on Monday.

The data was gathered by the craft on its 30-year journey into the edge of the solar system when it crossed into a sweeping region called the termination shock, they said.

It showed that the southern hemisphere of the solar system's heliosphere is being pushed in or "dented." [...] The termination shock is a turbulent area far beyond Pluto's orbit where the solar winds emanating from the sun are significantly slowed as they run up against the thin gas of interstellar space. Solar winds blow in all directions from our sun, and shape what was once thought to be a bubble around the solar system called the heliosphere.

This at least explains why that picture on the wall never stays balanced.

A note by Maynard

Voyager2

The two Voyager craft were launched in 1977 to take advantage of a planetary alignment that happens only every 176 years. This made it possible for Voyager 2 in particular to visit the four outer planets (Jupiter (1979), Saturn (1981), Uranus (1986), and Neptune (1989)) in an amazing "grand tour". Both craft are still in contact with Earth after 30 years, continuing on their endless voyage away from the Sun. They are now more than a hundred times farther from Earth than the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Imagine the technology involved in exchanging communications with a 12-foot dish so impossibly far away that it takes light more than 14 hours to traverse the gap. It boggles the mind that we can even talk to these craft.

The Voyagers are powered by the heat of decaying plutonium. (Solar power is not practical for a craft that strays so far away that the Sun is barely more powerful than a remote star.) The power source, which initially provided more than 400 watts, is slowly winding down. These days it's fallen below 300 watts, and some of the instruments are being closed down due to lack of available power. It is projected that between 2012 and 2020, dwindling resources will make the Voyagers less and less able to gather data and communicate, until they finally fall out of touch.

The Voyagers each carried a Golden Record, meant to be interpreted by space aliens when they find it. Considering the vast emptiness of space, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this to happen. This is probably for the best, considering that the message is signed by then-president Jimmy Carter, and the aliens would presumably sense his weakness and immediately launch an invasion.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

My sister...My bride!

Maureen McCormick. Hmmm...yep.

Three words as uttered by Jan which will forever have a new meaning.

Brady Bunch Star Reveals All About Lesbian Fling With TV Sister

Wholesome former THE BRADY BUNCH star MAUREEN MCCORMICK is set to reveal the beloved 70s TV series' most shocking secret in a new book - she and her on-screen sister had a lesbian fling. MCCormick's tell-all, Here's The Story, won't hit bookstores until 2008, but publishers are already buzzing about the big reveal. As well as talking candidly about her well-documented eating disorder and drug problems in the book, TV's Marcia Brady will come clean about a romance she had with co-star Eve Plumb, who played her sister Jan on the hit show. A source tells America's National Enquirer, "The most explosive comments will be how the then-blonde, blue-eyed cutie developed a crush on Eve Plumb, which led to some sexual play. "This book will certainly come as a shocker. While Maureen is not a lesbian [of course not!--T], she reveals there were some sexual hijinks going on behind the scenes. "It's bizarre because she played such a virginal character on the show."

Jan, Jan, Jan!

Stay away from my nuts!
The Tiny Gay Squirrel says: "And Hillary's not gay, either. She just likes Jan. A lot."

What did happen at Roswell?

Space Aliens Crash at Roswell!

A post by Maynard

The many rumors regarding the flying disc became a reality yesterday when the intelligence officer of the 509th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc...
—from an army press release of July 8, 1947

This week celebrates the 60th anniversary of whatever happened at Roswell, New Mexico in July of 1947.

There are various claims and counter-claims about what went down at Roswell. But the noteworthy aspect of this incident was that something really did fall out of the sky, and it was initially proclaimed by officials to be an extraterrestrial vehicle. Subsequent government clarifications asserted the wreckage was actually the debris of a weather balloon, and ultimately the entire event was officially attributed to Project Mogul, a then-top-secret high-altitude monitor for global atomic tests. The Project Mogul balloon was a weird high-tech contraption that appeared to be of unearthly origin.

I'm inclined to accept the mundane explanation. But it's interesting to note how the outlandish stories become ever-more colorful as time passes. In recent months, the deathbed confession of Lieutenant Walter Haut has surfaced. This is the man who was the public relations officer at the army base in 1947, and who was responsible for the original press release that loosed the story upon the world.

Later this week, the public will converge upon the Roswell UFO Festival, July 5 through 8. My personal advice: While you're in the vicinity, drop in at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and take an amazing underground tour.

I'll close with the note that Al Gore was born March 31, 1948. As everyone knows, space aliens have a special affinity for Earth females, which leads to a number of regrettable abductions and seductions. If the aliens did indeed visit Earth in early July of 1947...well, you do the math. This would explain a lot of things.

The Flying Imams: Protecting Tipsters

A post by Maynard

You've heard about the 6 imams removed from a flight out of Minneapolis after passengers reported suspicious activities. These passengers are now stuck defending themselves against a civil lawsuit brought by the imams.

Former New York Mayor Ed Koch has written this editorial discussing the "King amendment", a proposed Federal law to protect tipsters who act reasonably and in good faith against this sort of legal harassment. The amendment passed in the House by 304 votes to 121. In the Senate, Senators Lieberman and Kyl and Collins have introduced similar legislation.

Koch notes that a majority of the New York State representatives in the House voted against the King amendment, 13 yea to 16 nay. The yeas were the 6 Republican representatives plus 7 Democrats. The 16 nays were all Democrats.

In the recent terrorist plot against Fort Dix, a store clerk had observed suspicious behavior and tipped off authorities. We're lucky this man thought saving lives was worth the risk of a lawsuit. As Mayor Koch observes, two thirds of the New York Democrats don't seem to understand what's at stake, as they vote to keep this potentially-deadly burden on the shoulders of the good guys.

International Respect for Chickens Day

Roscoe the Rooster

A post by Maynard

The chicken rights activists at United Poultry Concerns have declared May 4 to be International Respect for Chickens Day.

Pictured above is the memorial statue of Roscoe the Rooster in Takoma Park, Maryland. This was taken at the massive chicken parade and rally in 2005. The text on the plaque reads:

ROSCOE
1989-1999
This free-spirited rooster, who chose to live in our town, was fed and protected by Alan Daugharthy and Alma Keating, and brought joy into our urban lives.

You may be wondering why a town would build a memorial statue of a chicken. The Takoma Park Newsletter of July, 1999 reported the tale of Roscoe's commemoration:

Takoma Park citizens have begun a drive to raise money for a memorial to Roscoe the Rooster, whose smug and sure-footed strutting around the main streets of the city ended abruptly under the wheels of a vehicle in February.... The rooster, said to be both loved and hated by the citizenry who were exposed to Roscoe's crowings, lived in the back yard of a rooming house situated near Mark's Kitchen on Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park's main street. He was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver near the intersection of Carroll and Laurel Avenues Feb. 15.

New "Earth"-Like Planet Found

The good news: it has an average temperature of between 0-40 degrees celsius, and probably has liquid water on the surface. It is, they say, the most Earth-like planet ever discovered.

The bad news: the scientists who discovered the planet, which is outside our solar system, also note the aliens appear to be rude, burning cars cover the surface of the planet, and marauding "wine activists" are setting fire to grocery stores.

Oops, I'm sorry, that's the other thing in outer space called "France." My bad.

New 'super-Earth' found in space

Astronomers have found the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date, a world which could have water running on its surface...They say the benign temperatures on the planet mean any water there could exist in liquid form, and this raises the chances it could also harbour life.

"We have estimated that the mean temperature of this 'super-Earth' lies between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius, and water would thus be liquid," explained Stephane Udry of the Geneva Observatory, lead author of the scientific paper reporting the result...

Commenting on the discovery, Alison Boyle, the curator of astronomy at London's Science Museum, said: "Of all the planets we've found around other stars, this is the one that looks as though it might have the right ingredients for life.

"It's 20 light-years away and so we won't be going there anytime soon, but with new kinds of propulsion technology that could change in the future. And obviously we'll be training some powerful telescopes on it to see what we can see," she told BBC News.

I Have Just One Thing to Say to Sheryl Crow

In response to her, uh, asinine suggestion on how we can stop Global Warming:

Sheryl Crow's Grate Idea!

One square of this should absolutely be enough. For her at least. Especially with all that booze, cigarettes, chips, salsa, pizza, candy and snacks she requires on her tour.

Oh great. Now I feel bad because she's so pretty. But it just gives credence to the new profile quote on my MySpace page, "The speed of light is faster than the speed of sound, which is why often people look bright until they start talking." Oh well.

Popular Mechanics Responds to Rosie's 9/11 Conspiracy Meltdown

Who took my cheeseburger?!?

Apparently no portrait in the attic for Rosie

On Tammy Radio today I commented on Rosie O'Donnell's delusions about September 11th and her assertions that it was an American government conspiracy. This after her similar paranoid/conspiracy rant about the Iranian hostage taking of the British sailors either being faked or arranged by us, the British, or maybe Martians. All she knows is someone is setting up the gentle, compassionate and 'ethical' Iranians.

Other than the mental health issues in question, the bizarre claims of conspiracy surrounding 9-11 have been addressed over the years by a number of respected scientists, researchers and engineers, including the editors of Popular Mechanics. They now respond to Rosie's delusions on their blog, and deconstruct her wild accusations, one by one.

911myths.jpg

She would have been well served to read their book, "Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up to the Facts," before jumping the shark in front of millions of people. Here's how Booklist reviewed their work:

Expanding on an article published in Popular Mechanics in March 2005, the staff of the highly regarded magazine painstakingly deconstructs many of the myths surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Drawing on interviews with engineers, aviation experts, military officials, eyewitnesses, and investigators, this book addresses only those questions raised by conspiracy theorists, mostly that somehow the U.S. government was behind the attacks, and puts forth no theory of its own. Each section announces a theory, discloses the major proponents behind the theory, and deconstructs the theories specifically surrounding the World Trade Center (the fires could not have melted the steel in the structure), the Pentagon (the holes in the building were too small to have been made by a Boeing 757), and United Flight 93 (that it was actually shot down by an air force plane). The afterword details how Popular Mechanics itself was accused of being part of the conspiracy to support the administration. Although it isn't likely to stop conspiracy theorists, this book offers sound information for readers to ponder.

While her comments attacking various people like the president or Rumsfeld in the past on "The View" have generated wild applause, her 9/11 conspiracy screed received the excited response of one moonbat applauding. One. At least we have that good news.

Also a must-read in the midst of the disturbed seeming to control the national discussion these days, is "Conspiracy Industry," a terrific article from last year by James Meigs, the Editor-In-Chief of Popular Mechanics. He writes about what it was like for them when they came face-to-face with the industry, but also does a fabulous job deconstructing their very specific and deluded techniques. A fascinating, and important, read.

How Nancy Pelosi Is Not, Unfortunately, Ellen Ripley

ripleyalien.jpg

Ripley and her baby

**Welcome Jules Crittenden readers. When done with this post feel free to check out the rest of Tammy Blog.**

Perhaps believing that the November election indicated that some sort of mass madness had gripped every single American, Leftists on capitol Hill today cried in shock when police arrested them after they announced they were invading Nancy Peloser's office. Why? They wanted to take it over to show their displeasure with the fact that the Democrat Party leadership is undermining the troops and this nation just a tad too slowly for their Let's-All-Fail-Hate-Ourselves-And-Be-As-Miserable-As-Humanly-Possible side of the aisle.

pelosipink.gif

Pelosi and her Code-Pink babies

You see, when their Comrades in Portland burned a soldier effigy it was meant to be the Super Public Special Demonstration Order Number 9 informing Nancy that the Moonbat Dem Party base expected Congress to abandon the troops, proclaim to the world No-Confidence in our military, while giving aid and comfort to the enemy by giving them a surrender timetable, and then actually set the troops on fire, as quickly as possible, like right now.

As it is, the only thing the Dems left out of their Cut-and-Run Budget bill was the burning-them-alive part, so what's with the complaint?

Watching this desperate scenario play out between moonbat groups like Code Pink and today's Democrat leadership is very much like watching the part in Alien Resurrection when Ripley realizes that the new Alien Queen, about to give birth, is actually her own daughter/clone/monstrous creation.

Speaker Pelosi might want to watch that film just for the reminder that, when it comes to monsters from your own loins, only one of two things will happen--it will destroy you or you have to open the hatch and hope it gets sucked out into space. Or, in Nancy's case, hope it disappears into one of those Medical Marijuana stores in San Francisco.

Nancy Pelosi's very big problem, of course, is that she is not Ellen Ripley. Which simply means the next 18 months are going to require a lot more popcorn than I ever imagined.

Senators Worry We Were Mean to Mass Murdering Terrorist

Cry me a river.

Probe of Al-Qaeda Leader's Handling Sought

Two senators who observed last week's closed military proceedings against al-Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed called for an investigation into allegations that the accused planner of the Sept. 11 attacks was physically abused while in CIA custody.

Mohammed told the tribunal last Saturday that he had been mistreated during three years in CIA custody before his transfer to Guantanamo Bay, and he submitted a written description of the alleged abuse. The military panel immediately classified the submission and redacted from transcripts details of Mohammed's treatment in the CIA's secret prison program...

"Allegations of prisoner mistreatment must be taken seriously and properly investigated. To do otherwise would reflect poorly on our nation," Sen. Carl M. Levin (D-Mich.), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), a committee member, said in a statement issued yesterday.

Just further proof that the balls of Republicans are held on by the same velcro as those of the Dems.

Edwards: Jesus Appalled At 'Selfish' America

edwards1.jpgedwards2.jpg

I bet Jesus would declare a grown man having his teeth capped to be a very Metro-Sexually selfish act. Oh, and the Son of God would be appalled, too.

America is very, very bad. And when Jesus gets home you're gonna get it! At least that's what presidential candidate and perpetually outraged Metro-Sexual John Edwards thinks. Odd that he thinks so highly of himself that he believes he should be president, yet doesn't have respect for anyone else. In fact, he has such contempt for the United States he has indeed declared that Jesus, the one and only Son of God, would be appalled at how bad and selfish and mean we are.

That's pretty serious. I mean, who wants to disappoint the Creator? Another question for us Mortals is, Who actually would vote for a guy to be president who has such a low opinion of the country he is campaigning to lead? Certainly not me. Last time I checked, we preferred leaders who liked and respected us. But I suppose anyone who looked at November's election could easily (and mistakenly) take away a message that we're ready to be slapped around by people who don't like us (i.e. the Dems versus everyone else). Thinking that, however, would be a mistake.

Edwards: Jesus Would Be 'Appalled' at U.S.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.

Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war "when it's not necessary."

"I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," Edwards told the site. "I think he would be appalled, actually."

How strange that in John Edwards' world spending billions of dollars and sacrificing thousands of lives to liberate 53 million strangers doesn't count as compassionate generosity. Last time I checked, for the past six years we have been making up for ignoring the plight of the world from 1992-2000. We looked away from the Rwandan genocide, the Taliban rape of Afghanistan, and Saddam's mass murder of over one million of his own citizens. But at least the Prez was getting some booty.

Astronaut Gone Wild

nowak.jpg

Pre-and Post-arrest US Navy Captain Lisa Nowak

Or when the very smart do very dumb things. Kidnap. With diapers. And then the judge thought it would be okay to let her off on bond. Until they figured out that you don't drive 1,000 miles, in a disguise and with diapers (so you never have to stop driving) with a knife, a gun and plastic bags unless you intend to kill somebody. Or go to the moon. Everyone's a genius with this one. Sheesh.

Astronaut to face attempted murder charge

The NASA astronaut who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman involved in a bizarre love triangle with another astronaut will also face an attempted first-degree murder charge, an official said Tuesday...Originally, a judge agreed to release Nowak, who flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery last July, after she posted a $15,500 bond and agreed to wear a tracking device and stay away from the alleged victim.

And how is NASA and other astronauts dealing with this? As with the death of right and wrong, with the requisite sympathy for the alleged kidnapper/attempted murderer.

During the morning proceedings, chief astronaut Steve Lindsey, who flew with Nowak, testified that Nowak would return to Houston.

"Our primary concern is her health and well-being, and that she get through this," Lindsey said after the hearing. "Her status [with the astronaut corps] has not changed."

That concern is with the the diaper-clad love-lorn astronaut, not the Air Force captain (Colleen Shipman) who was the intended target, mind you. And I would think her 'status' has changed. She's in jail now. And last time I checked that was on Planet Earth.

No wonder our space program is in such trouble.

And can someone tell me, why do bad things happen to people's hair when they get arrested? Is Bad Hair a pre- or post-arrest event? And if it's pre, I think we have a pretty good argument here to arrest everyone walking around with bed-head past 1pm.

TVNZ has further details of how Nowak "only wanted to scare" her victim. With a knife, rubber tubing, and plastic bags. Hmmm.

Astronaut's obsession ends in jail

US Navy Captain Lisa Nowak, who flew on the space shuttle Discovery last July, drove 1,529 km from Houston to Orlando - wearing diapers so she wouldn't have to stop to urinate - to assault a woman she considered competition for the affections of a male astronaut, police said.

Nowak, 43, a flight engineer with three children, disguised herself in a dark wig, glasses and trench coat to confront Colleen Shipman at Orlando International Airport but said she "only wanted to scare" the woman, police said...Nowak went to Orlando airport around midnight on Sunday night, waited for Shipman's flight from Houston to arrive and then followed Shipman to the parking garage armed with pepper spray, a steel mallet and a BB gun, police said. She also carried black gloves, a folding knife with a 10-cm blade, rubber tubing and trash bags, police said.

In her statement to police, Nowak said she did not intend to physically harm Shipman but "only wanted to scare Ms. Shipman into talking with her."

Yeah, I carry those things to when I want to talk with another woman. Happens all the time.

The French Put Themselves To Sleep

Not satisfied with the shortest work week in Europe, the French have now decided that it's just too darn difficult to stay awake after lunch.

Too tired to work? Then have a snooze

They already enjoy Europe’s shortest working week. Now French workers are to be encouraged to have a nap after lunch.

The state-backed siesta is part of a €7 million (£4.7 million) campaign begun yesterday by the Health Ministry to encourage the French to sleep more and better. A third of the population does not sleep enough, experts say.

Well, if they didn't have to spend so much time running from marauding "youths" and putting out the fires engulfing their cars, they'd get more shut-eye. I'm just sayin'.

Know Thy Moon's Name

Since we name our hurricanes, wind storms, and firearms, the least we can do is give the moon a name every time she gets full.

Yeah, names like "Wolf," "Snow," and "Worm." And then there is the famous "Blue." And while there was a "Tammy" hurricane last season (actually, she only made it to Tropical Storm), I suppose I should happy that I'm not on the same list with "Sturgeon," and "Beaver." Enough said.
