Obama Gets Tough On Iran

Just kidding.

The world began anew when the Bowing Fanny plopped into the chair in the Oval Office. Thirty years of hostility from Iran would dissolve in the presence of The One. Obama strikes such a fine figure and makes some rip-roaring speeches, surely he must be smarter than everyone when it comes to peacemaking. Patience, mutual respect and humility will win over the madmen.

When it became obvious it wasn’t going to happen exactly like that with Iran, analysts generously gave Obama the benefit of the doubt that his naivete was actually a clever ploy to put other countries in a bind when it came time to impose harsh sanctions. It was his master plan. That time has arrived. Well, it arrived a long time ago but we’re just now getting around to it. Sort of.

During a press conference in South Korea, Obama was asked about the next step on Iran. He praises himself and the smart plan he has and speaks about Iran’s behavior in oblique, non-confrontational terms. What got to me is the convoluted, wussy language which presumably is getting tough on Iran.

A warning to anyone who plans to answer Obama’s call for volunteerism, check with the SEIU first. Kevin Anderson, a 15-yr old Eagle Scout, voluntarily worked 250 hours to clear a walking path in a local park. The president of the local SEIU chapter considers the park his turf and went looking for Kevin.

Union troubled by Eagle Scout project in Allentown

Anderson, a junior and varsity soccer player at Southern Lehigh High School, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 301 of Center Valley.

He got the idea for the trail while taking hikes along the partially complete, 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. He noticed there were a few missing connections to the trail in Kimmets Lock Park, which is on the Lehigh River near Dauphin Street. He already has logged 250 hours trying to carve out a walking and biking trail along the river.

“I decided to do my part in completing this part of the trail. In that way, others could enjoy walking along the river, without having to walk on the busy road”.

Nobody gets to enjoy a walk in the park unless the SEIU gets a piece of the action.

“We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.

Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said “there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

This is what counts as holiday spirit in the SEIU.

For example, the city currently does not have an electrician available because of the layoffs and an employee on an extended sick leave. As a result, the city has been forced to hire an outside union electrician to oversee the installation for the popular Lights on the Parkway holiday display.

“In the spirit of the holiday, we decided to let that go,” Balzano said.

When Obama signed the Volunteer Bill into law he said,

We need your service right now, at this moment in history. I’m not going to tell you what your role should be. That’s for you to discover.

Choose carefully.

The smart people are going to study and define hate then teach the kids how to be agents for social change. What could go wrong?

Political Correctness was an amusing loony left notion in the beginning, giving male names to hurricanes, spelling “woman” “womin”, quirky things like that. It got seriously irritating when we had to drop Christmas for The Winter Festival, but PC kept rolling along. It continued getting worse over the years while we all learned to self-censor our thoughts and actions to the point of getting 13 people killed at Fort Hood. Sane people think it’s finally time to pull back from PC. The radicals think it’s time to kick it up a notch. They want to formally define hate within society and develop a comprehensive program to “educate” the young to be social change agents.

The idea for Hate Studies came out of Gonzaga University in 1997. The initial premise, as usual, sounds worthy.

Why do we hate? Academics seek answer in new field

What makes hate tick?” Mohr, director of Gonzaga’s Institute for Action Against Hate, wondered. “How can we stop it?”

Gonzaga founded the institute a decade ago after some black law students received threatening letters. It has since started a Journal of Hate Studies, hosted a conference and offered its first class on hatred last spring.

The hope is that other universities will follow suit, said Ken Stern of the American Jewish Committee in New York, who has been involved in the effort. “We wanted to approach hate more intelligently,” he said.

A Bow to Sir Charles

PhotobucketCharles Krauthammer had a few choice words for the President’s behavior overseas. First the toe dive and then Obama’s declaration of being the first Pacific President.

Well, that was definitely a world class bow in Tokyo.

…there was a second incident that I found interesting when the President declared himself the first Pacific President. That’s because he grew up and spent some of his childhood in Hawaii, and in Indonesia and his mom took him on a visit to Japan, although all he remembers of that, as he says, was the ice cream. The first Pacific President? Well, Teddy Roosevelt, he built the Panama Canal in order to make the United States a Pacific power and he did. William Howard Taft, his successor, was the governor of the Philippines and John Kennedy and George Bush, Sr. were in the Pacific in the Second World War and spent some time in the Pacific Ocean itself. Bush, after having been shot down from his airplane and Kennedy after having his ship cut in half by a Japanese patrol boat. So these people actually spend time in the Pacific, but in Obama’s mind, it doesn’t in any way match the experience of the baby Jesus — excuse me, the baby Obama growing up on some Pacific island. The narcissism of the man is rather unbounded.

Everything in Obama’s life makes him world historical.

Oh, baby!

Sarah on Oprah

The greatly anticipated Oprah interview with Sarah Palin has just aired in the Eastern time zone. We heard a lot of advance info about it so there really aren’t any surprises. It was great to see Sarah again.

They talked about the McCain’s team handling of the pregnancy announcement, wardrobes and makeovers. Sarah says she never had a script to stay on and was not told about the campaign dropping out of Michigan.

Then there’s the infamous Couric question about reading materials. (ABC has blocked embedding) Sarah makes some poignant remarks about her and Todd’s reaction to the news of a Down Syndrome baby coming their way.

I can understand that Palin would have been annoyed at Couric’s question. There was a condescending insinuation in the very fact of asking such a question.

Palin says she does not feel to blame for losing. She wouldn’t expect credit had they won.

She speaks about aspiring porn star Levi. (For some reason this embedding is not blocked.)

Her marriage with Todd is very strong and based on equality. She says 2012 is not on the radar and dodges a question about getting a talk show by calling Oprah the queen.

I thought Oprah was aloof, but I’m not a regular viewer so maybe that’s the way she is to all her guests. I thought Sarah was a little tentative at first but settled into it. Maybe I was projecting my own feelings.

To all veterans who honored their uniform we owe an enormous debt of gratitude. Their courage humbles and inspires us. We will never forget their sacrifices. It is our duty to stand by them as faithfully as they stood up for us.

A Marine who was wounded and disfigured in Iraq gives advice in the aftermath of the Fort Hood shootings:

Stay strong and take the battles on a day-to-day basis. Sometimes we find ourselves kind of caught up in the long run. Of course we have our objectives and missions, but…remember who we are as Americans and our history and our legacy. We celebrated 234 years in the Marine Corps. That’s something that we can look on and be, I think, proud about where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Yes, we can be proud about who we are and where we’ve been. As long as we have young men and women with the spirit, optimism and strength of character as Aaron Mankin, we can be proud of where we’re going.

Maynard adds The Warrior Song:

Never think you’ve seen the limit of liberal delusion. Geraldo speculates it could have been a toothache that set off mass murderer Hasan. Maybe he had dental and mental problems. Terrorism? What does that even mean?

Genius! It puts a whole new light on the Garden of Eden story. Ever since Adam took a bite out of the apple, the root of the world’s problems has been right under our noses. Peace through oral hygiene.

Drill, baby, drill!

The media slant on the Fort Hood massacre is a weepy focus on the mental health of our miltary. All of them. So much stress, so many suicides, so few mental health workers. This Fort Hood tragedy, they suggest, points out the heartbreak of what our soldiers must endure. The implications for the upcoming (but who knows when) decision on more troops for Afghanistan is not lost. Are our soldiers turning into wackos because of this hideous war? That’s where the media is taking the story about the massacre at Fort Hood by a shooter named Hasan. We know they have an uncomfortable problem with the facts and have to point away from it.

Then along comes Joe. Senator Lieberman in what counts for a bold move in these times, states the obvious. Let’s ask about the shooter’s possible Islamist extremist motives in “the worst terrorist attack since 9/11″.

Rep. Cao Takes a Leap

by Pat_S on November 8, 2009 · 8 comments

A post by Pat

And America gets soaked with the foul result.

Anh “Joseph” Cao is in the House of Representatives because William Jefferson is a criminal. Yesterday Cao aided and abetted in what should be considered a crime by voting with Democrats to pass the ruinous government takeover of health care.

ABC’s blog The Note ran this story the afternoon before the vote.

Obama’s Favorite Republican

House Republicans are united in their opposition to the health care bill, but when the vote comes this evening, there is one House Republican to watch: Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana.

ABC News has learned that the White House is making an 11th-hour push to convince Cao to be the sole Republican to vote “yes” on the Democratic health care bill. Cao has been promising presidential support for additional financial aid for his New Orleans district. The sources say Cao has had several conversations with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and health care advisor Nancy-Ann Deparle

Congressional sources tell ABC News that Republican Whip Eric Cantor is also making a big push, trying to convince Cao to join all other House Republicans in voting no. Cantor has met with Cao several times today.

Cao is telling his colleagues that he is still undecided.

Cao’s New Orleans district is one of the most Democratic in America. He was elected in a something of a fluke last year, defeating William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, who is about to go to jail following his conviction on multiple corruption charges.

Coa is pro-life, so the only way he could be in play is if the Stupak amendment banning abortion funding passes.

This is how Cao smugly explained himself on CNN. He says he decided what was best for the district although it was a leap of faith.

It isn’t clear to me if the people in his district favored passage of this bill. Cao admits he’s voted against the wishes of his district on other matters. I find his self-righteousness offensive. Would he have voted for “the best interest” of his district if the Stupak abortion amendment hadn’t passed? How obtuse do you have to be to think this wasn’t a fleeting insincere expedient which will be undone at the soonest moment? Did he sell out for a mere promise from Obama to help his district? Good grief, will Katrina ever stop being a political milk cow? Are the people in his district helplessly wondering what his next leap will be, taking them with him, or are they planning a special one for him to take alone?

It’s politics as usual—deals, arrogance, power drunk politicians, money thrown around here and there. We’ve put up with it long enough. Too long but not yet too late to stop it.

Health officials want to cancel hajj for Iranians due to swine flu

The Health Ministry and the Majlis Health Committee are seriously opposed to allowing Iranians to go on hajj this year due to the swine flu epidemic, MP Mohammad-Reza Rezaii-Kouchi said on Saturday.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rezaii-Kouchi criticized the Health Ministry for reporting imprecise statistics, saying the health minister had said 50 percent of the people who go on hajj would become infected with the swine flu virus while the deputy health minister said 80 percent would become infected.

Andrea Mitchell – Memories

by Pat_S on November 4, 2009 · 12 comments

A post by Pat

David Axelrod appeared on a legitimate, unbiased network today. It looked more like a counseling session than a newsy Q & A. Poor Andrea Mitchell, clearly despondent over the disappointments of election night, needed some cheering up. I can just see the poor woman flipping between the HBO special reminiscing the glorious triumph last year and watching the gloomy election returns this year. Even New York 23 couldn’t cheer her up much. If Axelrod was in the studio, I’m sure he would have offered her his handkerchief, maybe a hug. He did his best consoling her on each of her worries, but Andrea wasn’t buoyed much by the pep talk. The interview ended with sad Andrea saying, “We loved you in the HBO documentary and we’ll always have the New York 23rd“. You could almost hear the music.

Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

It’s a living nightmare. This year like never before the ghoulish libs are coming to our doors with a bag of tricks masquerading as treats. Light the torches. The fateful hour is near.
