One of the Best Moments in Baseball History

32 years ago Friday, Rick Monday saved the American flag from being burned at Dodger Stadium. It is another beautiful weekend as it was so long ago, and while baseball has changed, our commitment to the flag and all she stands for has not. (HT Ed at Hot Air).

Treason Now Gets You Only 10 Years In Prison

Maybe even less. Selling out our nation's security to a Communist pit ultimately bent on destroying the Free World is a crime which should get you hanged. Apparently not these days, even when spying for China, one of the most depraved, genocidal nations on Earth.

Former Pentagon official pleads guilty in China spy case

A former Pentagon official pleaded guilty in court Monday to an espionage charge over the disclosure of secret data to an alleged Chinese agent in the US. Gregg Bergersen said he was unaware that the Taiwan-born businessman was passing the information to China. Mr. Bergersen, a weapons systems policy analyst who resigned his job last week, could face up to 10 years in prison.

The leaked data concerned US weapons programs for Taiwan, which China has threatened to regain by force, if necessary. Taiwan is a potential flash point for US-China rivalry in East Asia, and US military support for Taiwan is an irritant to Beijing. In turn, Taiwan has flagged China's steady buildup of missiles capable of hitting Taiwan. US military officials have warned that China and Russia have stepped up military spying activities in recent years, focusing on advanced weapon technology...

In two separate developments this week, a judge in California agreed to postpone until next May the trial of a Chinese-American engineer charged with stealing military and aerospace trade secrets on behalf of China, the Associated Press reports, and a federal court sentenced a Chinese-born engineer working on a Navy warship to 24 years in jail for trying to pass "sensitive data" to China, Bloomberg reports.

Despite all this, including the poisoned and tainted food and medicine with which China has been flooding our nation, as well as dangerous and defective toys for children and weakened steel for our buildings, President Bush still plans on traveling to China to enjoy the Olympic games while boosting the image of that pit as a civilized nation.

No wonder they have contempt for us as they try to issue Death by a Thousand Cuts.

Ambassador John Bolton My Guest Today on KABC

boltonaei.jpg

Ambassador John Bolton will join me at the top of the 3pm PT (6pm ET) hour today about the Bhutto assassination. Right after the ambassador Claudia Rossett comes on to share her perspective.

boltonbook.jpg

Ambassador Bolton also has a new book out. We'll discuss "Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad." Here's a summary:

With no-holds-barred candor, the straight-talking former ambassador to the United Nations takes readers behind the scenes at the U.N. and the U.S. State Department and reveals why his efforts to defend American interests and reform the U.N. resulted in controversy. A veteran of three Republican administrations and a nominee for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, Bolton shows how the U.S. can lead the way to a more realistic global security arrangement for the twenty-first century and identifies the next generation of threats to America...

In this revealing memoir, he candidly recounts his appointment in 2005 as Ambassador to the United Nations, his headline-making Senate confirmation battle, which resulted in his recess appointment, and his sixteen-month tenure at the United Nations. Bolton offers keen insight into such international crises as North Korea's nuclear test, Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, the genocide in Darfur, the month-long negotiation that produced the controversial end of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and more. Recounting both his successes and frustrations in taking a hard line against weapons of mass destruction proliferators, terrorists, and rogue states such as North Korea and Iran, he also exposes the operational inadequacies that hinder the U.N.'s effectiveness in international diplomacy and its bias against Israel and the United States. At home, he criticizes the pernicious bureaucratic inertia in the U.S. State Department that can undermine presidential policy.

NY DMV Bans "GetOsama" License Plates

Get Osama!

The plates the NY DMV deems too offensive and derogatory.I have a feeling a certain 3,000 people who dies on 9-11 and almost 4,000 troops who have died since, might disagree.

Another example of how at least the New York bureaucratic elite are in the grip of the Stockholm Syndrome. I first articulated this when NY decided to alight the Empire State building in green to pay tribute to Ramadan. Now, the DMV says "GETOSAMA" the plates violate their regulation that prohibits "obscene, lewd, lascivious, derogatory to a particular ethnic or other group or patently offensive."

New York DMV Bans 'GETOSAMA' License Plates

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — Retired New York City police officer Arno Herwerth hit a major roadblock this week when he tried to dress up his ride in patriotic style.

Arno, a 21- year veteran of the NYPD, wanted to add vanity license plates reading "GETOSAMA" to the 1993 Ford Aerostar he had already hand-painted red, white and blue. But New York's DMV red-lighted the anti-Usama bin Laden plates, banning them under an agency regulation that prohibits anything "obscene, lewd, lascivious, derogatory to a particular ethnic or other group or patently offensive."

God=1, Pelosi=0

After the congressional "Acting Architect" removed the word "God" from a flag certificate for an Eagle Scout, we all got mad and the situation is magically reversed. I have a feeling God will always prevail, but it sure can get irritating sometimes.

Capitol Architect Lets 'God' Fly On U.S. Flag Certificates

The Architect of the Capitol, responding to a public outcry, ruled Thursday that, from now on, the word "God" may be inscribed on certificates accompanying flags that have flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Acting Architect Stephen T Ayers said in a statement that the policy of disallowing political and religious statements on flag certificates has been inconsistently applied and does not fulfill the objectives of the office.

"It is inappropriate and beyond the scope of this agency’s responsibilities to censor messages from members," Ayers said.

"The Architect’s role is to certify that flags are appropriately flown over the U.S. Capitol, and any messages on the flag certificates are personal and between a Member of Congress and his or her constituents,” Ayers said.

Well, that's nice, but it sure isn't what he was saying a few days ago. It's amazing how much sense angry Americans can instill in the cowards in Washington.

On Tammy Radio: Jim Brossard, The Vet Who Cut Down The Mexican Flag

renoflag.jpg

Thanks to Jim, that Mexican flag is down, and the Stars and Stripes is back to her rightful place.

UPDATE: Finally more national attention. Here's video of Jim on Fox's Neil Cavuto show.

In an act of great patriotism, Jim Brossard, Vietnam vet and bus driver in Reno, Nevada, took personal action when he saw a Mexican flag flying over the Stars and Stripes, which is in fact a federal crime. Jim decided that couldn't stand, so he cut the Mexican flag down. It is this sort of individual act, simple and right, symbolic and actual, that has kept Old Glory flying throughout our history. We salute Jim, and thank him from the bottom of our hearts.

Here is Channel 4 KRNV's original coverage of the incident, and click here for video of Jim and the situation at Breitbart.

Fly the Flag Campaign

eagleflag.jpg

On this 6th anniversary of the attack on our great nation, one of your jobs is to email this flag campaign reminder to your lists and/or post it on your blog and any message boards you have access to. Let's make sure our nation is awash in our colors on 9/11, a reminder to all who would try to hurt us, including the enemy within, that these colors do not run.

9/11 Flag Flying

Please join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign.

We have just a few days to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America. If you are able please tell at least 11 people and if each of those people do the same, well you get the idea.

THE PROGRAM IS THIS:

On Monday, September 11th, 2006, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this fifth anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism.
Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared.

Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

Action Plan: Here is what we need you to do...
(1) Forward this message to everyone you know (at least 11 people). Please don't be the one to break this chain. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.

(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.Thank you for your participation.

God Bless You and God Bless America

Blog Dedication to Barbara Olson for 9/11

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Barbara Olson, December 7, 1955-September 11, 2001

For the 6th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, my blog is dedicated to Barbara Olson, as representative of all those who fell that day and all of our troops who have fought the depraved enemy in the years that have passed. Through the next week visitors to Tammy Blog will see Barbara's pic in the left hand column with a link to her wikipedia page

On another note, I began to fly my flag yesterday in remembrance of 9/11. While many of you fly the flag 365, for those of you who don't, I encourage you not to wait for Tuesday; fly it now and through the week.

We Hate the Government, But Love Ourselves

Years of the George Soros Left and the Establishment Media battering us with how horrible we are, about how we 'torture' prisoners, how the world hates us, and how we're generally a bad people, hasn't dented our pride as Americans.

Our disdain for government and the elite, however, has grown. A new Zogby poll confirms our 'approval' of congress is at 14%, a historical low, while President Bush's approval rating, also in the dumper, is at 34%, a full 20 points higher.

Despite our disgust with our government in general, check out what they report when it comes to our opinion of America, our quality of life, and our pride in our nation:

...But on a personal level, Americans feel relatively secure and comfortable with their own finances and safety. Nearly 82 percent of Americans said they feel very or fairly safe from "threats from abroad," and nearly 70 percent feel very or fairly secure in their jobs.

While 14 percent rated their personal financial situation as excellent and 10 percent as poor, the vast majority found themselves in the middle. About 43 percent rated their finances as good, and 43 percent as fair.

"Americans have made a serious adjustment. Their expectations have been tempered," Zogby said. "With little faith in government, you feel you are pretty much on your own."

Several years of headlines about possible torture of U.S. detainees, treatment of prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center and international anger over the Iraq war has not dented the pride of Americans.

About two-thirds of the likely voters surveyed said they were "very" proud of the United States, with 22 percent saying they were "fairly" proud and 8 percent saying they were not very proud of their country.

This is why I have faith in us--we recognize the how low our government has gone, and yet we do not allow that failure to affect our overall view of our nation or our intentions as Americans. We have the wisdom and clarity of thought to not allow the Establishment Media to control what we think of our ourselves. We have not allowed the Left and EM's cynicism and self-loathing and hate for this nation to infect us.

This is why, while on occasion we make mistakes because we're optimistic, sometimes naive, people, we always make up for it. Last November was out mistake, and we will take this nation back in 2008. How that will manifest, I'm not sure yet, but I'm convinced we will do the right thing and put a man (it will not be a woman this time around) in the office who reflects the Reaganistic values that have helped to make this nation great.

Happy Independence Day!

Have a good one everyone, as we celebrate the birthday our our great nation. As a little reminder, while we all know how to keep our human family safe on a day like this, our pets have a very different experience. Here's some advice from the Humane Society about how to make sure your Sydney and Snoopy make it through our unusually loud celebration without too much anxiety. Here's wishing a safe and happy 4th for everyone in your family.

Oh yes, and consider this an open thread, with any and all discussion fair game, for the day.

Here are some 4th of July related headlines and stories for your information and amusement, not necessarily simultaneously.

July Fourth Fireworks

Inside a fireworks store

A post by Maynard

**In honor of the 4th, I'm bumping up Maynard's very relevant post for today.**

Fireworks have always stirred my blood, especially the kind you light off yourself. Even now, when I'm much too old for this nonsense, I have a perverse desire to steer young boys away from the video screens and into a fireworks stand.

Availability of fireworks varies depending upon state and local laws. Federal law prohibits high-powered salutes (cherry bombs, M-80's and the like), but firecrackers and rockets and Roman candles and shells are fair game. Some locales restrict sales based upon general nanny-state intrusiveness, or maybe legitimate concern about fire hazards. To combat this, a few tourist-oriented spots set themselves up as free zones, beaconing in trade from the adjacent people's republics. That's the way we do things in America, and I love it!

As a California resident, I've had occasion to pass through Pahrump, Nevada, which sports a number of fireworks stores. Pahrump is also home to late-night radio phenomenon Art Bell, as well as the gateway to Area 51 (where the government keeps the space aliens), not to mention sundry gambling casinos and brothels. (Brothels and fireworks are illegal in Clark County, where Las Vegas is; Pahrump lies just over the line in the rural Nye County.)

I wouldn't want to encourage any of you upstanding citizens to break the law. But, as silly as it is, I'm happy to know there are a few tricks available to those independent people who still celebrate Independence Day in the traditional fashion.

President Reagan: Your Inspiration for the Week to Come

While we all suffer with the man in the White House who is voluntarily surrendering both in Iraq and our sovereignty here at home, take some solace and inspiration from Ronald Reagan from 40 years ago, prophetic and dynamically relevant today. This clip reminds us who we are and what American leadership is truly about. We still have a Rendez-Vous with Destiny. In the weeks and months to come, remember: God loves us and let's kick some ass, here at home, in the name of The Gipper.

The Senate Monkeys come back on Monday and will immediately return to shoving the Amnesty/Open Borders bill down the nation's throat. We can, of course, stop it, all it takes is you continuing to make yourself heard. You've shocked them with your reaction because they underestimated you (as the Elite always do the citizen), now we must continue and expand on the shock (and why not some awe to boot?). Let's make your senators, their staff, and the president, panic at the realization that the Great Unwashed Masses are actually showered and ready to rumble. Perhaps they hope during their week off you got distracted with Paris Hilton or Rosie O'Donnell or some other irrelevant car wreck. Let's disabuse them of that first thing Monday morning.

Big Bikes of Rolling Thunder Pay Tribute to War Dead

rolling.jpg

One of the many reasons why we love us. A salute to all our bikers on this official day as we salute our fallen troops.

War veterans old and new nail their colours to mast in motorcycle rally

HARLEY-RIDING Vietnam veterans, some of them now sporting grey ponytails, converged on Washington for the Memorial Day weekend to remember and reflect on the war that changed their generation.

An estimated 400,000 motorcyclists arrived for the 20th Rolling Thunder event. Many were veterans sporting leather vests advertising their platoon, their tour of duty, fallen comrades - and their devotion to their Harley Davidson.

Some had ridden across the US in a pilgrimage to "the Wall", the name given to the stark monument that records the names of the 58,000 US servicemen who died in Vietnam...

Opinion polls show Americans are deeply dissatisfied with the way the Iraq war has gone. But, in this crowd at least, the President, George Bush, would find vastly more supporters than critics...Keith Eastman, from Dayton, Ohio, who was in Vietnam, wants to see the US stay the distance.

"I want us to leave but after we win, and I think you'll find most of the vets feel the same way. We were pulled out of Vietnam and we didn't like it," he said.

Our Remarkable Young Men

Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack Jr., our slain kidnapped soldier in Iraq, was one soldier in the most astounding military in the history of humankind--a volunteer force made up of the sons and daughters of American families. He is now remembered, and honored, by one of his friends, another young man who has already served this nation, and has pledged to do so again in the name of his murdered buddy. There are many reasons why I love us, but this truly exemplifies how American families continue to raise quiet, decent heroes.

Soldier slain in Iraq joined Army to 'keep us free'
In Torrance, a childhood friend of Pfc. Joseph Anzack's vows to reenlist to honor him.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, Richard Geraldo, 19, added two candles to a memorial to his childhood friend Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack Jr. that was created about midnight on the steps of the main entrance to South High School in Torrance.

"I set some candles down with a vow: I'm sorry I couldn't be there, Joe, but I'll make it up to you by going over there and doing your job." Geraldo, who was recently discharged from the Marine Corps because of a medical problem, said he was working with a recruiter to get back into the Marines as soon as possible...

Geraldo said that he and Anzack parted ways in the ninth grade. But, he said, "I joined the military for the same reasons he did — to keep us free."

The memorial, with American flags, dozens of candles and bouquets of flowers surrounds a sign that reads: "We love and miss you, Joe Anzack. You're our hero."

Judge Blasts Feds, Throws Out Case Against Anti-Castro Militant

In a remarkable decision, a federal judge issued a stinging rebuke to the federal government's tactics in a case against an anti-Cuban militant. A militant, btw, who was trained by the CIA . The judge went so far as to charge the government with using tactics that "violated the universal sense of justice."

Our nation, btw, is the only one where a judge can make a proclamation like that and not fear for her life.

Judge throws out charges against anti-Castro militant

(CNN) -- A federal judge dropped charges against former CIA operative and anti-Castro Cuban militant Luis Posada Carriles on Tuesday, blasting what she called government "fraud, deceit and trickery" in an interview with Posada that led to the charges. Posada, 79, was charged with seven counts of immigration fraud. He was arrested in Miami in May 2005 after entering the country illegally. [Well, it looks like the Feds can figure out how to prosecute someone on immigration charges when they really want to--ed.]

U.S. district judge Kathleen Cardone ordered Posada's electronic bracelet cut off in the courtroom Tuesday and cleared the way for him to return to Miami a free man..."As with each and every defendant who comes before this court, defendant in this case is entitled to certain rights under the United States Constitution," Cardone wrote in her 38-page ruling. "This court will not set aside such rights nor overlook government misconduct because defendant is a political hot potato. This court's concern is not politics, it is the preservation of criminal justice."...

"In light of the fact that the indictment in this case is based upon statements made during the naturalization interview, this court finds that the interpretation is so inaccurate as to render it unreliable as evidence of defendant's actual statements," she wrote.

"This court finds the government's tactics in this case are so grossly shocking and so outrageous as to violate the universal sense of justice," Cardone wrote. "As a result, this court is left with no choice but to dismiss the indictment."

Posada was jailed for nine years in Venezuela in connection with the airliner attack, but was never convicted and escaped in 1985. In Panama, he was convicted of plotting with three Cuban exiles to kill Castro while the leader was visiting Panama in 2000. [That sort of act is exactly what the CIA trained him for--ed.] He later received a presidential pardon and surfaced in Guatemala and Mexico before heading to the United States.

This is the sort of story that gives steam to the perpetual moonbat argument that our government is corrupt. You know how I feel about government--it should never be trusted, but stories like this should embarrass us all, and do serve as a warning about what an unchecked system is capable of. Fortunately, we have judges who aren't afraid to speak the truth, and a nation where judges can do so without fearing for their lives.

This sort of act, like the jailing of our border agents Ramos and Compean and the apparent political firing s of federal prosecutors, expose an extremely troubling trend in President Bush's administration. It's interesting how Bush seems to allow homeland security elements to run wild, while overseas in the WoT, he refuses to let the Marines do their job and dispatch the enemy. If he wants to apply a no-holds-barred strategy against someone, it should be the enemy abroad, not our own citizens, or a former CIA agent who dares to continue to try to rid this world of a mass murdering dictator.

UPDATE from the webmaster:

The following is posted in Comments from dugsubmisd. This is one of the best arguments why President Bush should continue to be supported despite his mistakes.

Tammy, I appreciate your defense in all that is difficult and refusing to let political games interfere with your commentator. It is what makes you great! However, I differ with your increasing distance from the Bush administration (which you call the Bush Machine). America's founding fathers owned slaves, Lincoln toyed with the idea of colonizing blacks, FDR allied with Stalin, and Reagan allied with Saddam Hussein. But these leaders are remembered for their selfless duties on behalf of freedom and equality, whether it be establishing the world's first democracy in the American Revolution, freeing the slaves, enduring the Great Depression and winning World War II, and freeing the American economy and liberating the world from communist oppression.

And as for George W. his presidency is enduring 30 percent approval ratings because of the Left, who hates Bush more than radical Islam, and tenacious Islamist (both Iranian and al-qaedist) resistance to a democracy in Iraq. So much is at stake in this battle ... democratic government, American credibility, American exceptionalism, victory for al qaeda in Iraq, etc. President Bush needs all the support he can get at this point, not because he is perfect, but because politicians have to deal with an imperfect world and have to choose their fights. Don't go to the point of which you oppose Bush completely because you don't get everything you want and as a result get NOTHING that you want.

Well, at least this time when the British were in the White House they didn't loot and burn it down . Amazing what a difference 195 years can make.

Dmadison.jpg

First Lady Dolley Madison

When you watch the video linked above, you'll learn First Lady Dolley Madison, wife of President James Madison, had to evacuate the White House as the British invaded. She risked her life to save the portrait of President Washington. It makes one wonder, would Hillary Clinton have risked her life for a portrait of Washington? To save anything of importance to this nation? When you have the answer to that you know why she can never be president. The fact that she even dares to place herself as a candidate is outrageous.

Laura Bush, on the other hand, is a woman who puts this nation above her own self interest. Which portrait would she choose to save? I would be conflicted between two; I believe there are only two men in this nation's history who were divinely placed and without whom we would not exist--President Washington and President Reagan.

One could argue President Lincoln belongs on that list, but it is arguable that someone like Grant would have found power in that sort of vacuum much earlier than he originally did. Without Washington, this nation would not have been founded, and without Reagan, after we suffered through Nixon, Ford and Carter, no one else could have lifted our nation's soul back up, let alone defeated the scourge of the Soviet Union at the same time. No one.

So whose portrait would I save? I would choose Washington, because without him we would not have had Reagan. Without Washington, we would have had nothing. All that exists rests on the shoulders of the divine influence and existence of that one man. Whose would you save from the marauding British?

You didn't know what a hero Dolley Madison was, did you? There are American women who deserve to be in the White House, including in the capacity of president. I hope someday soon there will be one on the horizon--a woman like Mrs. Madison.

"A World Without America" Video

A video reminder of what the world would be like without the USA. It's a good video but it stops a little short. If the USA never existed, technically a great deal of the video should be in German. Thatcher would never have gained power, and someone like Schwarzenegger would not have gained the position in which he's referred to. All of that said, thinking about the world without America is an important exercise, and a reminder of the importance of our great nation. Brought to us by BritainandAmerica.com.

This is the fourth of 18DoughtyStreet.com's weekly adverts. At a time of rampant anti-Americanism this ad - produced with BritainAndAmerica.com - aims to remind the world of the great economic, technological and political benefits that the US has brought to the world.

Prager on Elllison, Oaths and the Importance of the Bible

Your absolutely Must-Read of the Day. Dennis Prager, whose I greatly admire and on whose show I have had the most enlightening and enjoyable interviews, has pulled no punches in dealing with the latest from our first Muslim congressman. The new Minnesota representative has declared that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but instead on the Koran. What does Dennis think? he makes it very clear, and he is absolutely right.

America, Not Keith Ellison, decides what book a congressman takes his oath on

Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, has announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.

He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.

First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book.

Forgive me, but America should not give a hoot what Keith Ellison's favorite book is. Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress.

For lessons on how to confront and push back the scourge of multiculturalism, while defending, with no apologies, the importance of Christianity and the Bible to our remarkable nation, read this piece. The stakes on something like this are great, requiring us to not bend to political correctness or multiculturalism. Being direct, sure, and confident about this issue, as Dennis is, is now required of all of us.

Happy Turkey Day Thanksgiving!

The Bird

A post by Maynard

How did we get Thanksgiving?

After their first harvest, the colonists of the Plymouth Plantation (the Mayflower people) held a celebration of food and feasting in the fall of 1621. The local Indian chiefs and ninety Indians joined in the three-day affair.

The first official Thanksgiving proclamation was made by the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts (adjacent to Boston, where Bunker Hill is) on June 20, 1676:

The Holy God having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgements he hath remembered mercy, having remembered his Footstool in the day of his sore displeasure against us for our sins, with many singular Intimations of his Fatherly Compassion, and regard; reserving many of our Towns from Desolation Threatened, and attempted by the Enemy, and giving us especially of late with many of our Confederates many signal Advantages against them, without such Disadvantage to ourselves as formerly we have been sensible of, if it be the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, It certainly bespeaks our positive Thankfulness, when our Enemies are in any measure disappointed or destroyed; and fearing the Lord should take notice under so many Intimations of his returning mercy, we should be found an Insensible people, as not standing before Him with Thanksgiving, as well as lading him with our Complaints in the time of pressing Afflictions

The Council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th day of this instant June, as a day of Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his Goodness and Favour, many Particulars of which mercy might be Instanced, but we doubt not those who are sensible of God's Afflictions, have been as diligent to espy him returning to us; and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering Praise and thereby glorifying Him; the Council doth commend it to the Respective Ministers, Elders and people of this Jurisdiction; Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being perswaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and soulds as a living and acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ.

Rangel Wants the Draft

I debated what to title this post. At first, I thought, "Draft Moonbats: Not a Bad Idea." Let me elaborate. My first reaction to Rangel's proposal is probably like yours--I didn't like it, and I still don't. But it's the reasoning I detest, not necessarily the ultimate idea. Rangel's argument is set as a cynical move not meant to promote public service and encourage appreciation for our military, a simple and predictable political ploy. His argument?

House Democrat Wants Draft Reinstated

Americans would have to sign up for a new military draft after turning 18 under a bill the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee says he will introduce next year.

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., said Sunday he sees his idea as a way to deter politicians from launching wars. "There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," Rangel said.

First of all, Rangel is using the Kerry theory about our military--it's a bunch of poor, stupid people who have no other choice in life. He, like Kerry, simply cannot grasp the fact that you have raised children who love this country, that we have young people who join up because they care about this nation and want to serve. That notion is so foreign to the Left Elite they don't even consider it. The first lesson to draw from this is Kerry's attitude about our troops does indeed reflect the Dem Elite attitude in general.

Scott LoBaido: Artist, Patriot, Troublemaker

Have Faith by Scott LoBaido

A post by Maynard

Here's one of those "man bites dog" stories. For some incomprehensible reason, it seems that so many artistic people tilt towards the lunatic Left. Perhaps the reality is different from the appearance, and it's just the loudmouths who create a façade that tarnishes the profession. Anyway, when an unabashedly patriotic artist shows up, the report is newsworthy.

By the way, Maynard is of the general opinion that most artists would do well to avoid heavy political involvement. This is for two reasons. First of all, people who are celebrities would be wise to be something of a blank slate. That allows us, their adoring public, to project onto them anything we want. It's disillusioning to find out that our celebrity friends are actively working against our highest values.

Even more important than preserving their celebrity status (and of course most artists are not celebrities), I see politics as largely being the antithesis of art. That is to say, art is the sharing of a personal insight, whereas politics is usually the sharing of a proclamation of what's wrong with the other guy. It's hard to mix the two without corrupting the artist and making him forget his essential mission.

So I'm not generally seeking out right-wing artists to do battle with left-wing artists. But every now and then, someone comes along who uses his art to express an ideal we can get behind. Scott LoBaido is such an artist. As described in this New York Press article:

You don’t want to have Scott LoBaido mad at you. He’s flung dung at the walls of the Brooklyn Museum and displayed an oil painting of that museum’s director sucking a pig’s ass. He’s axed the head off of an effigy of lawyer Lynne Stewart on lower Broadway in the middle of the day. He’s driven a van painted with "Execute Cop Killers" on its side around a Bronx courthouse while a cop-killer trial was under way.

(The Brooklyn Museum incident was in protest of the exhibit of Chris Ofili's "Holy Virgin Mary" painting, which included a clump of elephant dung. Ofili explained that the dung was a sign of respect; thus it would seem that Scott LoBaido was merely paying his own respects, from one artist to another. Here's a report of the incident, and also another broader description of the museum exhibit.)

Pictured above is Scott LoBaido standing next to his post-9/11 painting entitled "Have Faith". On the horse is none other than George W. Bush, triumphantly holding up the severed head of Osama bin Laden.

Aren't you starting to like this LoBaido guy? If not for his art, at least for his cajones?

I can't say whether they did this because they support him, but ABC news recently noted LoBaido as a Person of the Week. His current task is to paint a rooftop in every state with the American flag. Check out the website of his Flags Across America project.

Fly the Flag Campaign

eagleflag.jpg

This is a great idea. I received this from a friend via email and yet have no idea who started it, but let's spread it around as much as possible. If anyone knows where this originated, please let me know. Your job is to email it to your lists and/or post it on your blog and any message boards you have access to.

God Gets Renewed and Wins One In Court

godandadam.jpg

Even though God is clearly very busy, He has had a couple of good days.

God Turns 50

It made little news given all the week's turmoil, but the Senate has just agreed to a resolution reaffirming the 50th anniversary of the formal adoption of the national motto of the United States — "In God We Trust."

This week's approval reaffirms, in writing, that "from the colonial beginnings of the United States, citizens of the nation have officially acknowledged their dependence on God." It was on July 30, 1956, that President Eisenhower signed a congressional resolution passed by the 84th Congress making "In God We Trust" the official motto of the United States.

And, to make you the smartest person in the room about the whole issue, here's some snappy history and background about our very wonderful Official Motto.

In addition to having a good day in Congress, God and our motto also did pretty darn well in a courtroom, of all places. You remember Michael Newdow, don't you? Of course you do--he's the MalNar athiest who first sued to get The Pledge of Allegiance banned in schools. His latest effort to force society to look like him in all his Godlessness was a lawsuit to get "In God We Trust" taken off our currency.

He lost.

Federal Judge Nixes 'In God We Trust' Lawsuit

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A federal judge on Monday rejected a lawsuit from an atheist who said having the phrase "In God We Trust" on U.S. coins and dollar bills violated his First Amendment rights.

U.S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. said the minted words amounted to a secular national slogan that did not trample on Michael Newdow's avowed religious views.

Victories like these are good, but we should never take it for granted. Both Congress and the courts have enormous power. It's imperative we never forget that fact and stay vigilant with voting, speaking up and gtting involved. Newdow, as an example, has announced that he will appeal. Stay tuned.
