Aochan, the snake 'seems to enjoy' being with Gohan, the hamster

Snake 'befriends' snack hamster

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. Their relationship began in October last year, when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal. The rat snake, however, refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe.

I never cease to be amazed at all creatures great and small.

It reminds me of the young lion who took up with a little deer-like sweetie in Africa. It was on the big premiere episode of the new Wild Kingdom show (on Discovery I think). This was several months ago. Well, all they did was walk around together starving to death and another lion eventually ate the little critter. I almost wrote that show a blistering letter. They sucked you into watching it like it was this huge miracle. They should've saved it and given everyone a happy ending.

Messed up, yes...but very reminiscent of the old story about the scorpion that asks the turtle for a lift across the pond and stings him halfway over. The turtle asks him, "How could you do that? Now we're both done for!" and the scorpion says, "I can't help it...I'm a scorpion".

Regardless...cute little hamster, eh?
