Blue-Helmeted UN 'Peace Keepers' Salute Hez Terrorists

Unscum.jpg

The UN, a corrupt, terrorist-enabling, child-raping organization, provides a moment of truth.

Israel Decries U.N. Troops After Peacekeepers Salute Dead Hezbollah Terrorists

Israel is calling for removal of two United Nations soldiers from Lebanon after photographs surfaced of the soldiers saluting the coffins of Hezbollah terrorists during a prisoner exchange Wednesday.

Associated Press photographer Mohammed Zaatari captured an image of the troops paying homage to fallen Hezbollah fighters as trucks bearing their coffins drove through the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon.

The blue-helmet U.N. troops, who operate under the auspices of the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), are meant disarm Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and be an impartial buffer along the country’s border with Israel.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Dan Gillerman, said he was “shocked and horrified” by the photograph and that it was time for the saluting soldiers to go.

“I think they should be recalled and be sent back to whichever country they came from,” said Gillerman. “I think they’ve definitely compromised their impartiality and have in a very big way, in a very serious way, compromised the integrity of the United Nations.”

But a UNIFIL spokeswoman said the salute was nothing out of the ordinary.

“It is customary in most armies for military personnel in uniform to salute whenever a coffin passes in a procession,” UNIFIL spokeswoman Yasmina Bouziane said. “They were merely following this customary military tradition and saluted coffins draped in Lebanese national flags at their own initiative.”

In the meantime, here's Claudia Rosett's reporting on the latest UN scandal in New York. And never forget, we continue to be the primary funders for all this vile activity.

IAEA Slams Israel for Syria Attack

A post by Maynard

On September 6, 2007, Israeli jets swept into Syria on a secret bombing raid. The news reports were slow in coming, and consisted almost entirely of rumors and fragments; nobody was really sure what was hit, or even whether anything happened at all. (Here is an example of the news at the time.)

But it did seem that something in Syria had been bombed. The fact that the Syrians were subdued in their complaints suggested that the target was a secret they couldn't afford to reveal.

In recent days, facts have finally been released. We've learned the objective of the raid was to destroy an illicit nuclear reactor being built with North Korean assistance. Of course, the Syrians are claiming the evidence was faked by the CIA.

Now the International Atomic Energy Agency is condemning Israel and the US for not taking the issue to the U.N.

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has written a letter telling us how angry he is:

"The director general deplores the fact that this information was not provided to the agency in a timely manner, in accordance with the agency's responsibilities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to enable it to verify its veracity and establish the facts.

"...the director general views the unilateral use of force by Israel as undermining the due process of verification that is at the heart of the nonproliferation regime."

It really would be nice if we could trot these problems over to the U.N. and have them solved. Unfortunately, the reality is more like (Warning: Don't click this link if you're sensitive to vulgar language!) what we saw in "Team America".

The Not-Building a Nuke Iran Hands Over Nuke Missile Blueprint

Last time I checked building a nuclear warhead doesn't quite mesh with a "peaceful" energy program. Oh, the UN has known of this document for two years.

Iran hands over nuclear warhead blueprints

Iran has given the United Nations blueprints involved in making a nuclear warhead, but it has failed to comply with other demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Associated Press reports, citing unnamed diplomats. The diagrams show how to mold uranium metal into warheads, and the move is seen as an effort to ward off new threats of sanctions.

Yes, that's right. They believe admitting they have been lying all along and really do intend to build The Bomb will get them more support from the UN. And you know what? They're probably right.

United Nations Day!

The UN in action

A post by Maynard

October 24 is United Nations Day, marking the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter in 1945. The UN declared the day a holiday in its Proclamation 2782.

Since hyphenated affiliations are popular these days, fans and supporters should celebrate the occasion by displaying an UN-American banner.

Tammy Radio: Claudia Rosett on Oscar Wyatt's Oil-for-Food Guilty Plea

I just spoke with Claudia Rosett who, in a Commentary for the Wall Street Journal, provides background and explanation on Texas oil tycoon Oscar Wyatt's guilty plea conspiracy to defraud the United Nations' former Oil for Food program for Iraq. Wyatt worked with and paid off Saddam Hussein for years and was part of the UN and global corruption that allowed that tyrant to grow rich and hang onto power.

It is a sordid, disgusting story of how the nihilistic greed of a few condemned so many to death but supporting the tyrannical and murderous regime of Saddam Hussein. Claudia's article gives you the background and makes it all clear. It is also a real-time lesson on how useless sanctions can be, as we make decisions about what to do with Iran.

An Oil for Food Exposé

Having stood trial for almost a month in a Manhattan federal courtroom, 83-year-old Texas tycoon Oscar S. Wyatt Jr. struck a deal Monday. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United Nations' former Oil for Food program for Iraq. Brushing past me on his way out of the courtroom -- he's clearly familiar with my writing on the subject -- he shot a remark: "You ought to be happy." [...]

Wyatt's trial also underscored the vitality and ingenuity with which private players can drive, fly, haggle and connive their way past embargoes -- especially those enforced by the murky, politicized and largely unaccountable bureaucracy of the U.N...

Messrs. Khudair and Yacoub described a system corrupt to the core. Their duties inside Saddam Hussein's bureaucracy consisted largely, and officially, of handling and keeping track of kickbacks. That included who had paid and how much, and via which front companies. When Saddam's regime systematized its Oil for Food kickback demands across the board in 2000, keeping track of the graft flowing into Saddam's secret coffers became a job so extensive that the marketing arm of Iraq's Ministry of Oil, known as SOMO (State Oil Marketing Organization) developed an electronic database to track the flow of the "surcharges," as they were called.

Responding to Myanmar

A post by Maynard

This article in The Economist makes some interesting notes about how the world is reacting to the brutal government of Myanmar.

...As in the past, the world’s initial response to the junta’s violence was marked by bickering and point-scoring. On September 27th, the United Nations Security Council met in response to pressure from the West for coordinated sanctions. But Russia and China argued that the unrest was an internal matter that should not be on the council’s agenda at all. America announced new sanctions against the regime, in keeping with a policy some Western countries have pursued for nearly two decades.

Shareholder-activists and ordinary consumers in the West have also done their bit to encourage a boycott. But isolation has never really been on the cards. Any gap is eagerly filled by Myanmar’s neighbors — not just China, but also India and Thailand and other members of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). American leaders have insisted the junta honor the 1990 election result and step aside. To this end, they have already imposed wide-ranging sanctions. The European Union has been more equivocal, and its sanctions correspondingly milder. Japan, Burma’s biggest aid donor until 1988, has been softer still...

This is sadly typical. Although it suits the political agendas of so many academics and thugs to blame the world's ills upon America and Israel, I think the record speaks for itself.

Small Favors: NY Denies Ahmadinejad Ground Zero Visit

But Bloomberg's NY was considering it. The fact that this medieval tyrant who is facilitating the murder of our soldiers is even allowed to step foot into this country at all is an affront. Now, we're supposed to be grateful that at least he's not allowed to defile the WTC site? Small favors indeed.

New York Police Deny Ahmadinejad Request to Visit Ground Zero

The New York Police Department rejected a request by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to visit the lower Manhattan site where al Qaeda terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

Ahmadinejad, who plans to be in New York City next week to address the United Nations General Assembly, made the request to visit Ground Zero earlier this month, Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne said in an e-mailed statement.

Browne said police department officials decided to deny the visit after a meeting with representatives of the U.S. Secret Service and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the site.

"The site is closed to visitors because of construction there,'' Browne said in the statement. "Requests for the Iranian president to visit the immediate area would also be opposed by the NYPD on security grounds.''

Why the U.N. is Impotent

UNpotent

A post by Maynard

Is it just me, or is there something unspeakably disturbing in this symbolism?

Whether or not you agree with me on this (intentionally vague) assessment, you can see why the mad mullahs of Iran don't exactly quake in their boots when they receive another sternly-worded letter.

This sculpture graces the Visitor's Plaza at the United Nations building in New York. It was presented to the U.N. as a gift from the government of Luxembourg in 1988.

I guess it's a nice enough ideal, in its passive way. Nobody should reach for a gun when a less forceful tool will do the trick. But when push comes to shove, I'd rather have Snuffy close at hand than depend upon thusly-armed boys and girls in powder-blue uniforms to come and save the day.

(By the way, it's looking like Libya will host the next U.N. conference on racism. The previous conference, in 2001, broke down into an anti-Israeli anti-Semitic hate-fest, and was boycotted by the U.S.)

UN Troops Arming Militias They Were Meant to Disarm

The group that brought you Sex-for-Food and Money-for-Oil, now brings you Gold-for-Guns, all in the name of Uniting Nations and One World Order.

In true UN fashion, the hypocritical and deadly corruption of that pit continues to profit on the misery of those most in need. In this instance, Pakistani UN troops sell weapons to Congolese militias they were supposed to disarm. When they figured there was money to be made, those who were sent to stop the violence and protect the innocent, once again, did the complete opposite.

And we continue to fund, with our tax dollars, these depraved, unethical hypocritical maniacs. Another feather in the cap of Condi and George for allowing the UN to get worse and run rampant during this administration. And to think the president couldn't even manage to inspire his own Repub majority last year to confirm John Bolton. What a bunch of dolts.

UN troops 'traded gold for guns'

Pakistani UN peacekeeping troops have traded in gold and sold weapons to Congolese militia groups they were meant to disarm, the BBC has learnt.

These militia groups were guilty of some of the worst human rights abuses during the Democratic Republic of Congo's long civil war.

The trading went on in 2005. A UN investigative team sent to gather evidence was obstructed and threatened.

The team's report was buried by the UN itself to "avoid political fallout"...The UN in New York has refused to explain what took place or why, nearly two years after the allegations first surfaced, the Congolese people have no idea what action - if any - has been taken to discipline the Pakistani soldiers concerned.

At some point, someone is going to have to declare the UN a criminal enterprise, as it directly and indirectly doles out as much misery, death and destruction around the world as our Islamist enemy.

To stay completely informed about the UN's Misery Enterprise, read Claudia Rosett daily. her current blog posting is about the corruption of the UN Development Program. While there's a great deal he's done that should give him pause, President Bush and congress should be especially ashamed that they allowed the depravity of the UN to have such power during the last 7 years, as its corruption here and abroad grew and continues to this moment to destroy the lives of those who naively turn to it for help.

We are still the primary funders of this monstrosity, which makes me fear the karmic cost to our great nation. When we get finished kicking the Senate Monkeys and all their brethren out of Washington, we must make eradicating the UN, and establishing a new and decent 'Coalition of the Willing', a national priority.

Ahmadinejad Cancels Trip To New York, Blames Visa Delay

As opposed to the fact that his nation has just kidnapped 15 British Marines. Just now on Fox News, Richard Miniter and other experts have characterized Iran's actions today as an act of war. Not that that means anything to the Democrat Party neutered President Bush these days.

Ahmadinejad cancels U.N. Security Council visit

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has canceled a planned visit to the United Nations, blaming a delay in U.S. visas being issued to the crew of his airplane.

Ahmadinejad wanted to speak to the U.N. Security Council before a vote, scheduled for Saturday on sanctions against Iran.

Iran says it will still try to get high-level representation to the U.N. most likely the foreign minister.

"Global Warming"=Global Tax

burglar3.gif

The new UN uniform

The UN wants to tax the world. Well, Americans at least, you global warmers, you.

As we all know, every scheme of the left, most of which involve declarations of some sort of monumental disaster or impending doom, are really nothing more than excuses for bigger government and less individual freedom. Global warming is one of those fabricated issues that can be defined however they like, is designed to put the blame on humans, and requires, of course monumental global control by a few elite who declare themselves the ones who will save the Earth from the scourge of humanity. A perfect storm of Malignant Narcissism and it's mutant child, Leftist Politics.

That agenda was first made perfectly clear when the UN met and announced it needed a bigger, more powerful wing dedicated to fighting "Global Warming." Now, its revealed that this human scourge of planet destruction is the perfect excuse for the new global tax which the Leftist bureaucrats at the UN have been talking about for years. Yes, one of the most corrupt, depraved entities on Earth now wants to tax you as it continues to undermine this nation and rape children around the world.

Climate Panel Recommends Global Temperature Ceiling, Carbon Tax

A group of 18 scientists from 11 countries is calling on the international community to act quickly to prevent catastrophic climate change.

In a report requested by the United Nations and partially paid for by the privately funded U.N. Foundation, the panel warns that any delay could lead to a dangerous rise in sea levels, increasingly turbulent weather, droughts and disease. [And cats will be sleeping with dogs, celebrities will stop wearing underwear, and Disneyland will close the Haunted Mansion forever!--ed.]...

The panel's recommendations include a series of steps to cut the rate at which temperatures are rising. Chief among them are a global agreement on an acceptable ceiling for temperature rise and finding ways of adapting to cope with the damage already done.

Holdren, however, says even these measure will achieve very little unless they are accompanied by a global tax on greenhouse gas emissions. "We don't think ultimately society will get it right in terms of the full range and scope of activities needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, until there is an additional incentive in the form of a price on greenhouse gas emissions, either through a carbon tax or a cap and trade approach," he said.

A group of 18 scientists indeed. They're simply moving what the UN in general has been working for years. And they are also the people who will benefit from a financial windfall. "Global warming" is a money and power industry for the left. Certain people, scientists, researchers, and leftist activists and politicians (especially those running the pit of the UN) are set to get very, very rich by blaming global warming on humans. Leftist leadership has always reaped the financial benefits of destroying society in the name of altruism.

Time for Another Strongly-Worded Letter

A post by Maynard

You'll recall that, last December, the UN Security Council, after endless delays, finally agreed to sanction Iran if it continued on its path to build the bomb. Iran was given 60 days to comply.

The 60-day deadline expires on Wednesday. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Iran will tell the UN to get stuffed.

It's time for another strongly-worded letter.

The Shadowy World of UN's Maurice Strong

Once again, Claudia Rosett offers an excellent investigative piece, this time explaning exactly how the UN became the problem it is today. A major culprit/player is a man named Maurice Strong. You don't know his name? That's exactly the point. This is your must-read of the day.

At the United Nations, the Curious Career of Maurice Strong

Maurice Strong, the man who may have had the most to do with what the U.N. has become today, and still sparks controversy even after he claims to have cut his ties to the world organization.

From Oil for Food to the latest scandals involving U.N. funding in North Korea, Maurice Strong appears as a shadowy and often critically important figure.

Strong, now 77, is best known as the godfather of the environmental movement, who served from 1973-1975 as the founding director of the U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi. UNEP is now a globe-girdling organization with a yearly budget of $136 million, which claims to act as the world’s environmental conscience. Strong consolidated his eco-credentials as the organizer of the U.N.’s 1992 environmental summit in Rio de Janeiro, which in turn paved the way for the controversial 1997 Kyoto Treaty on controlling greenhouse gas emissions.

Bolton Resigns

Horrible news. This was the one man who had such a level of integrity it not only could survive the pit of the UN, it actually could have forced it into changing. He was the one daily reminder to those freaks that decency and integrity do exist.

Bolton Withdraws From UN Nomination Amid Opposition

Dec. 4 (Bloomberg) -- John Bolton will step down this month as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, conceding that his nomination to continue in the post was unlikely to overcome Democratic opposition in the Senate.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, on a conference call with reporters, said President George W. Bush ``reluctantly accepted'' Bolton's decision to withdraw his name from consideration. Bush will appear later today with Bolton at the White House, she said...

Bush drew fire from Capitol Hill by asking Congress to reconsider Bolton's nomination immediately after Republicans were defeated in the midterm elections on Nov. 7.

``To confirm Mr. Bolton to the position of UN ambassador would fly in the face of the clear consensus of the country that a new direction is called for'' on foreign policy, Senator Lincoln Chafee, a Rhode Island Republican, said two days after losing to a Democrat in the election.

Bolton couldn't win the support of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee without Chafee's vote, and Republican leaders signaled Bolton didn't have enough support to get his nomination to the whole Senate for a vote.

Make no mistake--this is not a casualty of the new Dem majority, the loss of Bolton is due to the incompetence and cowardice of the previous Republican majority. And they wonder why they got fired.

The president will be meeting/"appear" with Bolton at the White House later today. How pathetic of President Bush that he did not command enough respect from his own majority to win this appointment. After all, what good is having the majority if you ask nothing of them, and then when you do, they balk?

I'm thrilled Republicanism is dead. Now let us usher in a new day is renewed Authentic Conservatism, a return of Reaganism.

In the meantime, UN Food-for-Sex crimes continue, as that entity, which resented Bolton's attempts to impose some sort of discipline on the organization, continues to be the official International Child Rapists of the World.

The United Nations of Child Rapists

The civilized world has two enemies--Radical Islamists and the United Nations.

I wrote about the Sex-for-Food depravity of the United Nations in my book "The Death of Right and Wrong." The fact that it is not only still an issue, but actually flourishing is mind-boggling. Here is another report, by the BBC, of how UN troops and staff, in every single one of the UN missions around the world, is raping women and children, and using food as a bargaining chip for sex.

UN troops face child abuse claims

Children have been subjected to rape and prostitution by United Nations peacekeepers in Haiti and Liberia, a BBC investigation has found.

Girls have told of regular encounters with soldiers where sex is demanded in return for food or money...The UN has faced several scandals involving its troops in recent years, including a DR Congo paedophile ring and prostitute trafficking in Kosovo.

The assistant secretary-general for peacekeeping operations acknowledges that sexual abuse is widespread.

"We've had a problem probably since the inception of peacekeeping - problems of this kind of exploitation of vulnerable populations," Jane Holl Lute told the BBC. "My operating presumption is that this is either a problem or a potential problem in every single one of our missions."

It's important you know that it is our tax dollars that pay for every UN "mission." The UN is obviously not only useless when it comes to solving the world's problems, it is the problem for the world. If the UN's facilitation of the Islamist problem, its Jew-hating bias against Israel, and the so-called security council's work (via China and Russia) to protect tyrants isn't enough for some to recognize the abject depravity of the UN, perhaps this systematic rape and prostitution of children in the world's most vulnerable countries will do it.

Why John Bolton is Important

It is imperative John Bolton remain as our Ambassador to the UN, as I noted in this post. His willingness to speak truth to power (as the Left likes to term it) is imperative when it comes to shining a big light on that entity's moral vacuity. Publicly naming and shaming depraved acts is an important step reform and change. It's something Bolton does beautifully, and boy, do we have another example for you (HT LGF).

Bolton in extraordinary outburst against United Nations

The U.S. Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, launched a scathing attack on the United Nations Friday. Bolton was furious over the adoption by the General Assembly of a resolution which said the assembly regretted the deaths of 19 civilians in an attack by the Israeli military in the town of Beit Hanoun last week.

[...]

"Many of the sponsors of that resolution are notorious abusers of human rights themselves, and were seeking to deflect criticism of their own policies," he said.

"This type of resolution serves only to exacerbate tensions by serving the interests of elements hostile to Israel's inalienable and recognized right to exist. This deepens suspicions about the United Nations that will lead many to conclude that the organization is incapable of playing a helpful role in the region," Bolton continued.

"In a larger sense, the United Nations must confront a more significant question, that of its relevance and utility in confronting the challenges of the 21st century. We believe that the United Nations is ill served when its members seek to transform the organization into a forum that is a little more than a self-serving and a polemical attack against Israel or the United States," he said...

"The problem of anti-Israel bias is not unique to the Human Rights Council. It is endemic to the culture of the United Nations. It is a decades-old, systematic problem that transcends the whole panoply of the UN organizations and agencies," he continued.

Wow, and bravo.

Blogging for Bolton

John Bolton Phone Bank

We have now spent a week, understandably, dealing with our protest vote and the subsequent fallout. It is now time to get down to business, the first order of which is getting John Bolton confirmed. Never think that we're now just along for the ride as Dems and ineffective Repubs play politics with our future. If anyone is along for a ride, it's the politicians, and it will be our ride, what we want and expect from these employees of ours.

Outgoing Senate leader Frist has the Blogging for Bolton effort based at his political action site. The role you can play in helping get Bolton confirmed includes phone calls to senators, emails and spreading the word. The B4B page has all the info and action you need.

While the Senate confirming Bolton is the preferred action we want, if they don't, the president can once again appointment him in the upcoming recess. This means, however, that Bolton would not be paid. The Wall Street Journal is suggesting that Bolton be named to a State Dept. post that does not require confirmation, giving him a salary, while then serving as UN Ambassador simultaneously.

Claudia Rosett is promoting the idea of a fund for a Bolton salary. I would support that as well if need be.

Bolton Nomination is Dead

**Welcome James Wolcott readers. Jimmy thinks my idea of Bolton for president is "nutty." This, of course, simply confirms my visionary brilliance.**

The John Bolton nomination to be our Ambassador to the UN is dead.

In the last update to my previous post today about Bolton, I noted today's White House's press release stating that they were indeed going to resubmit the Bolton nomination to the senate as one more thing the outgoing sessions could accomplish. I thought, okay, the president wouldn't do that without knowing the outcome, and gee, he certainly wouldn't submit the nom if he knew it was dead in the water.

Silly me. Final developments indicate that the president clearly had no idea what this lame duck senate (our highly touted Republican majority) would do, because it has now been made clear that the Bolton nomination will not get out of committee. Just like it never got out of committee. A committee run by Republicans.

No Plan for Bolton Confirmation in Senate

WASHINGTON — U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton won't get a hearing before the 109th Congress adjourns, effectively killing any chance he would have of being confirmed for his post.

Members of the current Senate coming together next week in a lame duck session to vote on remaining spending bills left unfinished before the October campaign season, but they are not going to vote on Bolton, staff members for Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist told FOX News on Thursday...Part of Bolton's inability to get through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is the result of opposition from Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee.

While the news itself is terribly disappointing, what's most revealing is what can be discerned between the lines from the White House notice it was submitting the nom, to the announcement from Senate Republicans that it would never get to the floor for a vote. All of this happened quickly, and in public, indicating that the president, his advisors and Senate Republicans aren't even speaking.

This development is another embarrassment, another reminder to the people about what has gone wrong in Washington, the fact that everything is being decided based on meaningless power plays or agenda-based 'gotcha' politics.

Lincoln Chaffee's position at this stage highlights how absolutely asinine everything has become. Here is a man who has just been fired because we haven't liked what has been happening in Washington or how people like him have (not) done their job. And his answer to that? To go out playing the same obstructionist, petty, juvenile power games.

Hey Linc, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

And what can we hope for when it comes to Bolton, one of the very few, good, straight-talking men in Washington? Perhaps the president would like to see him in his cabinet (here I go again projecting logic into what the president might do). Or, as I noted earlier today, perhaps John Bolton is that Republican wild card I've been looking for when it comes to the 08 presidential race. Bolton. Romney. Giuliani. That's a good start at least.

Is Bolton the Next Bush Sacrifice?

**Scroll for Update**

You know, if the president is so desperate to make the Dems happy, why doesn't he just resign and then apply to be Pelosi's personal interior decorator?

Initially, I chose to ignore the buzz going around because John Bolton is one of the very few people in the Bush administration who understand the enemy, the war, and the problems with the UN.

I now have to face the possibility that Bolton may be tossed overboard because the president did not mention him in his press conference just a moment ago. President Bush issued a list of things he wants the current congress to pass before the changeover at the end of the year. Confirming Bolton was not among them.

Remember, Bolton was a recess appointment which will expire in December, the end of the current congress. The reason Bolton had to be a recess appointment is because the Republicans in the Senate couldn't manage enough support for the nom (despite being the majority), forcing the recess appointment.

This has been my point at least about the past Senate Republican "majority"--even when it came to Bolton, an imperative appointment, they wouldn't do it.

One of the last Republican senators to put the kabosh on Bolton was Lincoln Chaffee who also got the boot Tuesday. Is the president not insisting on Bolton's confirmation because he still thinks he doesn't have the Republican support? Now with nothing to lose, one would think those in the Senate on their way out might find some cajones to do the right thing for once. Apparently not.

The only other possibility is that Bush is planning even more cabinet shakeups and wants Bolton for something other than the UN.

If not, then the next headline you will read here will be BOLTON FOR PRESIDENT IN 08.

UPDATE: 11:30am PT:

A Reader Anthony has posted this in Comments:

Over at The Corner, Byron York quotes a WH press release stating that Bolton's nomination will be resubmitted.

As Byron notes, this will be interesting. If accurate, it indicates Bolton wants to stay, which was one of my considerations--maybe he wanted out. It also says that the president thinks the fired Republicans, like Lincoln Chaffeee, may now be able to do the right thing since they have nothing to lose. Another good reason why someone like him was fired.

Or, worse case scenario, the president doesn't have the courage to pull the nom, so he's putting the Senate Repubs on the spot. Maybe this is just me, but I don't think he'd resubmit Bolton unless he knows what would happen.

UN Celebrates Republican Loses

Acting against their own supposed policy, the UN sends out a press release highlighting the most extreme Repub bashing newspaper coverage of last night. (HT reader Sandy) They could have chosen to not release anything at all, or at least sought out a balance of opinion, They did not. Instead, they chose entities like the BBC and the NYT to further what can only be seen as a gloating by that parasitic entity.

This scourge truly need to be kicked out of this nation. When I interviewed Ambassador Bolton a few weeks ago and asked him if it was necessary to have the UN on our soil, he noted it was easier to keep an eye on them here. I countered with the fact that it would also be easy to "keep an eye on them" in Brussels.

Ridiculous.

A "Little Diet" for the Fat Boy of NoKo

At least that's how the UN sanctions are being termed, with their ban on "luxury goods" to NoKo. That should upset Pajama Boy.

So now I know that if I explode a nuclear device, the world will take my scotch away. And put me on a diet.

Hmm, I'm so conflicted...

Also, just had reporter Eric Shawn on the show. His book, "The UN Exposed: How the United Nations Sabotages America's Security and Fails the World," has always been a must-read, but every day that goes by it becomes even more relevant.

U.S. Supports "Moderate Muslim" to Head U.N.

The madness continues. Reports are that the U.S. is backing Former Thai Foreign Minister Surin Pitsuwan for the post. "Moderate Muslim" is one thing, he also happens to hail from the nation that hosts the international child sex slave trade. Yeah, no corruption there.

Annan's term is up on December 31, 2006. He won the Nobel Peace Prize even though he presided over the 1994 Rwandan genocide as field leader for the U.N. Peacekeepers, and has sat back and watched the Darfur genocide without taking any action. That action, btw, should include going into Sudan whether that Islamist government likes it or not. To say nothing of being so incompetent all the maniacal rogue nations on Earth got the bomb under his watch. The Nobel Peace Prize. What a pathetic joke.

U.S. to back Thai Muslim as UN chief: paper

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Former Thai Foreign Minister Surin Pitsuwan, a Muslim with wide international respect, emerged on Thursday as a possible last-minute candidate to replace Kofi Annan as United Nations Secretary-General.

Citing "informed sources," Thailand's Nation newspaper said Surin was about to receive backing from the United States, who felt he was a "strong candidate.

There are about 7 people with their hat in the ring for this job, which pays about $250,000 a year, and you get a free mansion in New York. And pretty much all your expenses are paid as well. To say nothing of the bribes and kickbacks you can get from tyrants around the world.

There is one person in particular who would be perfect for the job, but because of political correctness (in this instance, the demand that an Asian get the top spot) it's understood she does not really have a chance--that being Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the president of Latvia. A remarkable woman with the background, experience and commitment to democracy and reform that could actually make the UN helpful in the world, as opposed to a propagator of genocide and hopelessness.

vreiberga.jpg

Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the president of Latvia, who should be UN Secretary General, but probably doesn't have a chance because she's neither Muslim nor Asian. As Frank Sinatra would croon, instead we will send in the clowns.

Somalis Fight Takeover by Islamists

And if Clinton had more courage and moral footing, in all likelihood these people wouldn't be in this situation. And speaking of courage, these people deserve our support and prayers. One also might ask, where is the United Nations on this, especially after Ahmadinnerjacket's and Chavez's complaints that arrogant nations just roll over the rights of the regular people.

Gee, that's exactly what seems to be happening in Somalia. But not a peep from anyone.

Gunfire kills Somali boy as Islamists seize port

Islamist fighters in the Somali port of Kismayo opened fire on Monday on residents who were burning tires, throwing stones and chanting to protest against the Islamist takeover of the city hours earlier.

A 13-year-old boy was shot dead while protesting, and two other people were injured as violence raged for several hours in Somalia's third biggest city, witnesses said.

"We have been taken over by extremists, the Islamic courts have taken us by force, and now they are firing at us," said protester Dahabo Dirie...Riding in trucks with machine guns, the Islamists guarded main streets and forbade gatherings after the protests eased...

Kismayo residents, near Kenya's border, said some arriving Islamist fighters had stirred up an already tense mood by burning the Somali flag and raising an Islamic one, after taking the city hours earlier without firing a shot. A Reuters witness saw thousands of men and women shout "We don't want the Islamic courts" and toss stones at trucks.

The Most Pathetic Oxymoronic Headline of the Day

And it's not just the headline that's asinine; the entire story illustrates how it's not the U.S. with supposed worldwide imperialist ambitions. No. we've already been beaten to the punch by the Mad Hatter.

Israeli retreat 'making progress'

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has said Israel has made significant progress in withdrawing its forces from southern Lebanon.

But he said that the 34-day fighting had plunged the Middle East into instability once more. [Oh, and I suppose the kidnappings and regular rocket attacks for years into Israel from Lebanon and Gaza were signs of stability?]

The unconditional release of the Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah before the start of the conflict and the issue of Lebanese prisoners detained in Israel are both of vital importance, he added. [Impressive. I'm sure that'll make Hez snap right to it. Or not.] On Tuesday Hezbollah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, said the two soldiers held by his group will only be released if a Lebanese militant held by Israel for 27 years is also freed. [Yeah, or not wins].

Mr Nasrallah said that any deal with Israel would have to include Samir Qantar, convicted of several murders after a cross-border raid in 1979.

Gee, it looks like Nasrallah not only survived, but now he's charge, still has the Israeli soldiers and is now being protected by UNIFIL. And hey, what is that cat with the really big smile doing up in that tree?

Fox News This Morning

On my way to my usual Monday morning Fox appearance at 10:20am ET (7:20am ET). At this stage, it looks like the topic will be Iran launching their submarine-to-surface missile. Obviously technology provided by China and/or Russia, both countries must be thrilled with how their fascist client is keeping the free world busy. With us focused on their terrestrial menace, those tyrannical nations have their eyes on the sky.

Of course they'll veto sanctions at the UN. The longer this mess continues, the better for them. Whether or not we take control of this situation is another test for Secretary Rice. Considering her performance so far,

If we don't get our act together and fight the WoT like a real war by naming the enemy and vanquishing it, not only will Earth fall under the boot of tyrants, we'll be controlled by them in the sky, too.

There's a lot at stake in this war, and it's not one we can afford to lose.

Europe to Israel: Nevermind

After all the huffing and puffing and instance on a cease-fire, Euro nations have decided everything's a bit too vague for them to commit troops for the international force that's supposed to guard the Lebanon-Israel border.

This after all of them signed off in the first place regarding the conditions and expectations of the cease-fire and the peace-keeping force. But then again it's safe to say that they never intended on contributing to the force. They just noticed Israel was indeed winning and they needed a way to save Hez, which would save Iran, which would keep money rolling into the right EU pockets.

Nations balk at joining U.N. peacekeeping force

PARIS - The shaky U.N.-brokered cease-fire in Lebanon suffered another blow Sunday when the European countries that have been called upon to provide the backbone of a peacekeeping force delayed a decision on committing troops until the mission was more clearly defined. Their reservations postponed any action on the force at least until Wednesday, when the European Union will take up the issue.

Claudia Rosett on the UN's "Happy Hour"

I'll be speaking to Claudia momentarily as I fill in for Laura Ingraham. Her must-read column is at the National Review and makes clear the absurdity of Resolution 1701. Here's your snippet:

If Turtle Bay Had a Moral Compass...
An alternative resolution on “The Situation in the Middle East.”

It’s happy hour at the United Nations. After four weeks of Hezbollah-provoked war in Israel and Lebanon, accompanied by much diplomatic hand-wringing, the U.N. Security Council met Friday evening to adopt 15-0 its latest attempt to paper over the real problems: Resolution 1701 on “The Situation in the Middle East.” This resolution is meant to deliver the “ceasefire” that Secretary-General Kofi Annan has been calling for, also described in the lingo of the U.S. State Department as a “cessation of hostilities.”

Unfortunately, if Resolution 1701 has any effect at all, its real meaning is that we now embark on a period in which Hezbollah will seize the opportunity to regroup and reload. The feeble and compromised mix of U.N. peacekeepers and the Lebanese army, which is the force authorized in this resolution, will fail to stop them. Iran and Syria will proceed apace with their terrorist infection and subjugation of Lebanon. The U.N. will wave around this latest piece of paper to try to prevent Israel from defending itself, or, for that matter, defending the rest of us against the “Death to Israel! Death to America!” Hezbollah agenda. Iran’s President Ahmadinejad, enjoying yet another confirmation of the U.N.’s mincing impotence in the face of guns, bombs, rockets, and terror, will continue his fevered preparations to roll out the nuclear bomb.
