For YEARS New Orleans PD failed to process evidence kits collected in rape cases.
As a woman and a retired police officer who spent the better part of the last 10 years of my career as a detective, I find that APPALLING.
Rape kit evidence collection can be extremely traumatic for the victim and to think these kits were not tested, entered into databases, etc. is a crime in and of itself!
Talk about a slam-dunk case for an investigator, not to mention the good-will and peace of mind garnered from the victim and community by catching the sick S.O.B. and getting him off the street. It's really a no-brainer all the way around and a crying shame this happened.
