Germany built 80 wind tubines 100km offshore in the North Sea. They can't get the electricity to shore. Article says that AC current can't be used because of the undersea distance, therefore, DC current has to be used. That's a problem. Funny that a Professor is quoted that it's a new technology. Who created DC electrical networks? Oh yeah, Thomas Edison's scientist factory. So sure, new technology.

Extracting massive amounts of energy from diffuse sources like air when it’s moving and the sun when it shines might be perpetually “just around the corner”. Perfect for politicians and scams.
On an unrelated German issue; Hitler’s surviving Wolfs Lair food taster speaks. She is the only 1 of 15 WL food tasters to survive the war. Russian Red Army shot the others. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/hitlers-food-taster-reveals-the-horrors-of-the-wolfs-lair-9738880.html
