HUD takeover of local zoning

In 2009, HUD and Westchester County NY reached an agreement for building low-income housing. HUD now wants to unilaterally change the agreement including revising Westchester's zoning laws. Julian Castro is HUD Secy since July. Prior to that it was Shaun Donovan who is now head of OMB.

    In Erdogan & Turkey housing news. Erdogan has opened on the outskirts of Ankara, a new palace, the White Palace, on Republic Day (founding day of modern Turkey). Erdogan cut down a forest given to the gov’t by Ataturk, for the land to build the palace. So Erdogan cuts down Ataturk’s environmental gift to Turkey and appropriates founding day of Turkey.     Erdogan has canceled the opening palace celebration party because of 18 miners trapped in southern Turkey. Earlier this year, he was widely criticized as slow to respond to mining disaster that killed 300. Here’s a quote from a man with 2 sons currently trapped below ground: “I have two sons under there,” a man who did not give his name told CNN Turk late Tuesday night as he watched rescue operations. “They made laws, didn’t stick to them,” he said. “They issued regulations, didn’t stick to them.
