Here's an honest liberal doing some honest self-examination. It's a long article, but worth a look. It captures an essential contradiction within modern liberalism; one which I consider fundamental — because power corrupts, and modern liberalism requires power, absolute power — and he would not agree with me. But we could have an honest and productive debate if both sides came to the table with this attitude.
This line cuts to the heart of the toxic attitude of modern liberalism: “It is impossible, in the long run, to cleave the desire to help people from the duty to respect them. It becomes all at once too easy to decide you know best, to never hear, much less ignore, protest to the contrary.”
