No warrant, No immunity

In Orange County Fla (Orlando), police decided they wanted to search barber shops for drugs, contraband. So they contacted the barber shop licensing bureau and with barber shop inspectors, the police rushed into multiple minority barber shops with guns drawn wearing ballistic vests. Police did not have a warrant because they claimed that it was a barber shop licensing compliance inspection. One shop owner took police to court & when gov't claimed qualified immunity for the police, judge said not in this case, gov't knew what it was doing was a warrantless search. Part of judge's reasoning, this was the third time in the last few years that something like this was done.

Speaking of a different kind of immunity: Colombian girls are falling ill. There is no proven cause yet, but a HPV vaccination earlier this year is being blamed by the parents. http://news.yahoo.com/mystery-illness-plagues-girls-colombia-052825963.html;_ylt=AwrBJR9.bhpU_DQAUybQtDMD

Off-topic: I sense another liberal media coordinated attack starting before the election. WaPo top Opinion column in Sunday paper is, http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/how-the-gop-stopped-caring-about-you-how-therepublicans-became-selfish/2014/09/17/7fe87a70-3dc5-11e4-9587-5dafd96295f0_story.html . History prof. author argues that Lincoln, TR, and Eisenhower were for gov’t controlled economies and that that makes people better off. But that the bad old meanies like Reagan are for trickle down economics that increase poverty and inequality.

Daily Beast Sat. column is on, http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/09/20/how-long-can-the-republicans-hide-the-crazy.html .

Considering the titles of these 2 columns this weekend, it seems like the journalist 2014 election edition is off and running.

NYT has article this weekend on how unknown assistant doctor costs are hitting patients. NYC man went in for spinal surgery and got a bill for an assistant surgeon that he didn’t know would be involved with the operation for $117,000. Blue Cross ultimately paid almost all of bill. Article points out that if that had been Medicare patient surgery then assistant doctor would have been restricted to $800. I’m assuming that unstated point is that we should welcome gov’t health care because it controls costs. To give author credit, included in article is what is asst. doctor’s most common surgery, surgery on Medicaid patients. Oh, so he gets under-imbursed from Medicaid and socks it to private ins. patients. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/21/us/drive-by-doctoring-surprise-medical-bills.html?hpw&rref=us&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&version=HpHedThumbWell&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well&_r=0
