I, like most here in TAM land, have been watching this slow motion trainwreck since January 2009. And we cannot think of a single piece of legislation or administration policy that has had any positive benefit to the ordinary, middle income, taxpaying Citizen since then. None. If anyone has, please advise.

Can’t think of any. In that regard, just got my small fed. income tax refund (I try to break even like Tammy advises) and with the check was a check-size piece of paper with Spanish on one side and English on the other that says; “It starts with a story. Everyone has a story about money. See people’s stories and share yours. Get answers to money questions. The CFPB is working for you.” (And then it has a cfpb logo/motto and its website for ‘yourstories’.)

There are rules against fed. agencies promoting themselves such as the Interior Dept. can’t say, we save national parks if only we had more staff and money, but it can run, Only you can prevent forest fires. So here with, share your stories, that seems a run around the rules. And I believe that the IRS is totally barred from anything remotely promotional. But this isn’t for the IRS, it’s for the CFPB. Everyone who gets a refund or Earned Income Tax Credit gets this. And again in Spanish and English. If I were in Congress I’d make sure that the IRS knows that besides not promoting itself, it can’t send out material that in essence promotes other agencies. I thought the IRS didn’t have money to answer tax payer questions.
