What if Scots vote Yes for the wrong reason

Op-Ed by a Scot, former BBC correspondent, has me wondering what will happen if Scotland votes for Independence. Approx. 2/3 of the way through the article you get to the main reason why the author wants Independence. So a politician like Thatcher will never be imposed upon Scotland again. He then writes that Cameron like Thatcher imposed detestable taxes. If his thinking represents much of Scotland, then that's similar to U.S. voters going for Obama because Bush 'conservative' economic policies didn't work.
