“Governments don’t control things. A government can’t control the economy without controlling people.” — Ronald Reagan
Today is the day when New York, New Jersey and Virginia can give a tip of the hat to President Ronald Reagan and the vital importance of fiscal conservatism and small, unobtrusive government. Now go out there you guys and win three for the Gipper, that’s all we ask
As news and related commentary warrant, links will be listed here and feel free to use this as today’s Open Thread on all issues.
To Big Media, conservatism comes in only one flavor, social conservatism, namely anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage and a smattering of other issues that would fall flat over canapés and seltzer (liberals don’t seem to drink anymore). That Dede was pro-choice and pro-gay marriage fits the narrative perfectly for the media. End of story.
But, the media, and political leaders would be wise to dig a bit deeper into the story. Yes, Dede was pro-choice and pro-gay marriage, but she was also pro-government spending, pro-taxes and pro-Big Labor, to name just a few other issues. When a Republican candidate regularly seeks out the endorsement of ACORN and wins the endorsement of DailyKos, it isn’t much of a stretch to imagine that large segments of the party might have some misgivings about supporting the candidate. (And they would be right, since she has now endorsed the Democrat in the race.)
Overall, 45% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. That’s down a point from yesterday and the lowest level of total approval yet measured for Obama. Fifty-three percent (53%) now disapprove.
At least 1,200 veterans across the country have been mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a fatal neurological disease.
One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.
Denise Nichols, the vice president of the National Gulf War Resource Center, says the VA is blaming a coding error for the mistake.
Letters dated Aug. 12 were intended to notify veterans who have Lou Gehrig’s disease of disability benefits available to them.
Calls to the VA were not immediately returned Monday.
Lou Gehrig’s disease, or ALS, is a rapidly progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles.
And why I am honored, and grateful, to be an American.
The following is video of a Marine confronting Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) who compared Townhall Patriots of “brown shirt tactics” and compared them to a “lynch mob.” He eventually apologized, but here he learned who makes this country great, strong, and free, and it’s not politicians.
Although completely unknown to the world east and south of Juneau one year ago, two words on Twitter by Sarah Palin sent the president of the United States in a panic to the op-ed page of the Sunday New York Times in opposition…
Gingrich, Rick Perry, Carly Fiorina and others seeking office should take note: If Sarah Palin goes to a baseball game with Rudy Giuliani, it remains in the press for two weeks. When Sarah Palin talks, or does virtually anything, people watch and listen. They listen even to her silence, waiting beneath the window for an appearance…
History always begins its cycles with renegades. There is no longer any question in my mind that if a new political day is to go forward in our country it will start with Sarah Palin, Citizen and Renegade.
Somehow, Dana Loesch had the courage to go into the same space as that crazy dangerous Astroturfed Mob (Us), you know, those Un-American freakish Nazis Obama has sent the SEIU to beat into submission. Hey, with a mob like this, no wonder Obama needs gestapos!
UPDATE: Here’s the list of upcoming DeathCare townhalls. Now that Obama thinks he can intimidate, threaten and physically harm you into submission, your participation is more important than ever.
I guess this is what they meant when Obama said Democrats should “punch back twice as hard” and then sent our union thugs to DeathCare townhalls. There is a background for such rhetoric and action–it’s called 1933 Germany.
Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the umbrella group organizing Obama’s gestapos. Up until now, citizens have simply voiced their opinions against Deathcare at the townhalls. Enter Obama Gestapos. Here’s just one sample of how HCAN prepared their activists with classic gestapo organizing tips:
HCAN – the massive umbrella organization that represents the lobbying effort on behalf of major progressive groups and unions like MoveOn, the NAACP, and the SEIU – has given its supporters instructions on their own set of defensive town hall tactics.
The group advises them to coordinate event-day strategy in advance with congressional aides; arrive far earlier than opponents and gather “in the front to create a wall around the Member”; and to assign individuals to shadow reporters and “be assertive in shaping the narrative.” It provides suggested questions and possible chants to use in drowning out raucous opponents.
The instructions also offer “precautions to make sure that you can keep meetings you organize under control.” Those guidelines include making sure attendees are “easily identifiable”; establishing a strictly-controlled question-asking protocol; and banning and collecting any signs and leaflets that they have not issued themselves.
“Plan for disturbances and assign marshals,” say the guidelines. “Make sure that you assign marshals to take care of moving the crowd, keeping people organized and orderly, and acting as security should any need arise to ask noisy or disruptive protesters to leave. If you have cause to think that you will need more back-up, notify the police ahead of time.”
Here’s a message from the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action regarding California’s move to restrict sales of ammunition. Senate Bill 962 also includes plans to invade privacy and essentially make the 2nd Amendment irrelevant. Sure, the Supreme Court recognizes we have a right to bear arms, liberals just want to make sure we can’t get ammo for those firearms.
Bill to Restrict Ammunition Sales Takes a Step Forward
Please Contact the Senate Appropriations Committee!
Earlier today [7/7/09], the Senate Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill 962. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration. No hearing date has been scheduled.
AB962, sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor†in the Department of Justice’s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be kept in dealers’ records and subject to inspection by the Department of Justice. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited.
Please contact the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose AB962.
For anyone still concerned or confused about Sarah Palin’s intentions, especially if you think she is retreating from serving our nation in the political sphere, please read her 4th of July statement. I think it makes quite clear what her intentions are.
…If I may, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours and share my thoughts with you. First, I want to thank you for your support and hard work on the values we share. Those values led me to the decision my family and I made. Yesterday, my family and I announced a decision that is in Alaska’s best interest and it always feels good to do what is right. We have accomplished more during this one term than most governors do in two – and I am proud of the great team that helped to build these wonderful successes. Energy independence and national security, fiscal restraint, smaller government, and local control have been my priorities and will remain my priorities…
I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness! God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference – with you!
This is not a statement from a woman who intends on moving into obscurity. Her statement is clear–her priorities are now national, and she’s asking us to join her. And it’s not just for lunch to chat about what might have been
As many of you know, I’ll be speaking at the Tucson Tea Party, tomorrow the 4th of July. I’ll update you here and Weekend Tammy Radio will be broadcast live tomorrow from Tucson, 12-2pm PT.
