Retailer denies sign is a slur

A Casa Furniture and Bedding store in Alexandria has been advertising easy credit with a twist: “no gringo papers” necessary.

A sign outside the store at the intersection of North Beauregard and King streets reads, “Credito sin papeles de gringo.” In English, that could be translated to say “Credit without gringo papers.”

Blanca Granados, the store’s assistant manager, translated the message to mean “just ‘without white papers,’ like Social Security or like that.”

Sure. And the term ‘Wetback’ is really a compliment for people who shower a lot because they’re so committed to good hygiene. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

And the quote attributed to the president of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Michael Barrera, was classic: “I think it’s more for marketing. Gringo is not always a pejorative term.”

Uh, sure. Marketing? Marketing to whom? So I guess when our ancestors were called “Wops” and “Micks” when they came off the boat, Tammy, it wasn’t meant pejoratively. It was purely a “marketing” strategy.

It’s funny how racism seems to only work in one direction, isn’t it?

Tammy, Tammy, Tammy. Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria. God, what do you say here? The town is older than Washington, DC, just across the river, a short drive over the bridge, or on the subway. We are so inundated with illegals here. Stupidness like Granados’ statement is so routine here (as is the last name GRANADOS). What was it they did in the 1900s with Italians without papers (no matter the color, of paper that is); they stamped their foreheads with the letters WOP – without papers. AND they immediately sent them back (to Italy). Why, why, why can’t they do this now? Oh, I am sorry, I don’t mean the repeated use of the term “WOP”. I mean, or do I need to say, the deportation of those without papers. DEPORTATION (deportation, deporation). Sorry once again, that’s inflammatory.INFLAMMATORY, INFLAMMATORY, INFLAMMATORY.

The term “gringo” is an anti-American slur that dates back 120 years to when the US Marines kicked the sh*t out of the Mexican Army at the “Halls of Montezuma”!
It is more rascist than the “N” word. Even more negative than “juerro”; I have spent many months in Mexico the last 45 years and am familiar with the culture.

The store owner says the sign has been up for years. The president of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says everyone’s become more sensitized because of the immigration debate. “There have been some Hispanic businesses who have felt the brunt of non-Hispanics. They’ve made this immigration debate more about Hispanics than immigration itself.”

Boo hoo. Here they are, most likely sin papeles de gringo themselves, operating a business catering to illegals with a sly insulting joke in Spanish about not needing papers. As though that isn’t enough they then play the race card against non-Hispanics while dismissing their own use of a racial pejorative insulting to non-Hispanics.

So Miss Granados and Mr. Barrera, you lost some non-Hispanic patronage? How unjust. You get to use any words you want in a foreign language living a better life making money in a country you sneaked into. American citizens live in perpetual fear of losing their jobs if they say the un-PC thing in their own country in English. Your complaints are getting tiresome.

Only a gringo can call another gringo a gringo. That’s the american protocol.

This just confirms and reflects what I saw as a Law Enforcer:
They have nothing but contempt for American citizens, for your laws and customs, and readily express that contempt.

“What is going on, Jefe? Are gringos falling from the sky?!”

    “Yes, El Guapo.”

Since we are on the subject of ethnic & racial slurs, has anyone ever determined which racial/religious/ethnic/gender group is supposed to be mortally offended by the word macaca? For that matter, has anyone ever figured out what it means? A list of words and thoughts the Left has forbidden would be helpful.

It’s important because someday I might stub a toe or something and accidently utter a word or phrase like “Ooobaglunk” or “Hffrufur”. I don’t want to find myself in prison.

So, they’re calling us Gringos now?

    For crying out loud:

I keep reading stories like this, on Tammy’s blog and elsewhere. More illegal alien news, one more outrage, or some story that involves the illegal aliens’ impact on our communities in some way. Every day this crap goes on in our country. Illegal aliens and/or the traitors who aid them, thrive, out in the open, with no fear of deportation or repercussions of ANY kind.

I knew this would happen. I predicted it, after our short lived victory in defeating the massive amnesty bill that Washington was trying to force on us. Instead of parlaying that victory into more aggressive activism, moving forward to really stop the problem, and demanding ENFORCEMENT, and a zero tolerance policy on illegal aliens, we sat back and congratulated ourselves for making a few phone calls to our senators. Yay for us…yeah, right.

But where’s the passion now? Where is the fire in the belly? The ball got MAJORLY dropped, folks!

Seems that at the end of the day, the joke is on us. Whether or not these people get amnesty or not doesn’t seem to make much difference. They are still here, brazen in their defiance of our laws and culture. And their presence still adversely affects our quality of life.

Have you even heard ONE presidential candidate use the “D” word?? As in DEPORTATION? Nobody seems to want to talk about that, much less demand it, as most have been brainwashed into thinking that it is too extreme a measure. Actually enforcing the law is too extreme these days. Geez! Presidential candidates even are waffling, actually seriously considering (as if it is an idea worthy of the slightest consideration) about whether or not they should give drivers licences to illegals. What an outrage!

So being called a Gringo? Hell, that’s nothing new. I reached rage over this issue years ago. I mean, how much more pissed off can I be?

The Aaron’s store here in Springfield Oregon, posts all their reader board ads in Spanish only. Since I am a “Gringo” (and proud of it) and don’t habla Spanish, I couldn’t tell you what what the sign says. I can sure tell you what I feel it says, “No Gringo money needed”. I am happy to oblige.

  11. bstndance says:

I don’t think their target clientèle would have a problem with “gringo papers”. Just use a stolen social security number.

One way racism…go figure. Here in Philly is Joey Vento, of Steak Sandwhch fame (no, not Pat’s, they suck) His sign asks customrs to order in english, what a riot…literaly. He figures it can’t really be that hard to ask for “one, wit” (cheese steak, fried onions). Joey has also been prominant for other reasons, donating money to so many wanderful causes!
So when in Philly, don’t go to Pat’s, go to the joint across the street.

Oh yeah, I think Chinks restaurant has closed though…

And who can forget the idiot in Harrisburgh who thought that since they reduced the price of Matzah for Passover, the price of cabbage for St. Patty’s day, and the price of Ham for easter they could lower the price of fried chicken for February…you figure it out!
