Every political organization has people and factions you don’t like. Compromised alliances are sometimes needed to get things done. America joined forces with Stalin’s Russia during WWII, even though Stalin was one of the meanest monsters ever to have walked the Earth.

When is distasteful compromise necessary and appropriate? When has a group gone “too far” and compromised “too much”?

I would argue that the wooing of Al Sharpton is a symptom of what’s gone horribly wrong in the Democrat Party. Sharpton is more than controversial. He is an evil man whose words have arguably sown seeds of mayhem and murder:

[Sharpton] came to national attention in 1987, accusing a Dutchess County assistant district attorney of being one of a gang of whites who purportedly raped black fifteen-year-old Tawana Brawley and left her smeared with excrement and swastikas. Her claims were found to be a hoax, and after the victim of his defamation won a lawsuit, a court ordered Sharpton and two co-defendants to pay $345,000. […which he never paid; years later (in 2001), Sharpton’s $65,000 portion of the judgment was paid by a group of fans including O.J. Simpson’s lawyer, Johnny Cochran.]

In 1991, Sharpton spoke at the funeral of a black child in Brooklyn. The Hasidic Jews involved in the traffic accident that took the child’s life, Sharpton preached, were “diamond merchants.” Sharpton then led 400 angry demonstrators through the Jewish neighborhood of Crown Heights, a marcher at his side carrying a sign reading: “The White Man is the Devil.” A Kristallnacht of four nights of rock and bottle throwing at Jewish homes [the “Crown Heights Riots”] followed. A young Talmudic scholar, Yankel Rosenbaum, was surrounded by thugs yelling “Kill the Jew.” He was stabbed to death, but before dying, identified the man who stabbed him. This young black, apprehended with the bloody knife in his pocket, was found not guilty by a racially mixed jury during the administration of Giuliani’s predecessor, New York’s first black mayor, David Dinkins. Dinkins’ Police Commissioner, Lee Brown, declared that “Sharpton came close to the line of inciting [to riot] but did not actually cross it.”

In 1995 in Harlem, when, during a tenant/landlord dispute, Freddy’s Fashion Mart attempted to evict a black-owned record store, Sharpton organized protests against what he called a “conspiracy” by a “white interloper.” It was, as one of Sharpton’s lieutenants told protestors, a “Jewish department store.” After one demonstration, a protestor ran into the store, gunned down several employees, and set it ablaze. Seven, including Hispanics and a black security guard, died.

Why is this unapologetically awful man celebrated by Democratic leadership? How did he become the left’s national arbiter of racial issues? Why was he speaking at the 2004 Democrat convention? Why have he and his organization, the National Action Network been in bed with major Democratic candidates?

From this National Action Network press release:

Senator Hillary Clinton (NY): “I have enjoyed a long and positive relationship with Reverend Al Sharpton and National Action Network, and I don’t ever remember saying “no” to them and I intend to remain their partner in civil rights as I clean the dirt from under the carpet in the oval office when I am elected President” [It’s weirdly daring of Hillary to refer to the dirty carpet in the oval office in reference to a woman who doesn’t say “No”, considering her husband’s awkward contribution to the presidential detritus.]

Senator Barack Obama (Ill):”Reverend Sharpton is a voice for the voiceless, and a voice for the dispossessed. What National Action Network has done is so important to change America, and it must be changed from the bottom up.”

Senator John Edwards: “I will work with National Action Network to fight poverty and seek justice for those marginalized in our society.”

Sup with the devil in order to beat those terrible awful Republicans if you must, Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama. But I’d find the scenario less disturbing if you wouldn’t seem so happy about consummating the relationship.

Don’t forget Sharpie’s comments about “Jewing the numbers” and “Greek homos”. The latter statement being offensive enough, it seems the former slur is evidence of a career long obsession with Jews.

I think the motivating factor in all these Dems’ pandering to the mail order minister is FEAR.

Sharpton is “impressive” to say the least. I can’t understand why people pander to him. And, of course, those who don’t pander to him and his reverse racism must be bigots.

Sharpton does have a life long obsession with the Jews. I wonder why people like Abe Foxman of the ADL don’t condemn Sharpton. Foxman seems to want to condemn everyone else of anti-Semitism when I often can’t see how the smear of anti-Semitism applies. Interstingly, Foxman even recently issued a joint statement with Sharpton regarding the Jena 6 case and praised Sharpton for being “a savvy activist.” What a bunch of crap. Abe Foxman often makes the rest of us Jews look bad.

The game of politics. Maybe we can’t totally blame the candidates who have to function in this climate. Also, look at some of political games and attack ads of the 1800’s.

    A curiosity.

I have seen the all day news channels discussing and pontificating on Hillary’s shame on you message to Obama.

Maybe I have missed it, but…

Where are the comments on Obama not going to the State of the Black Union meeting. More importantly, Tavis Smiley and his family getting hate messages for criticizing Obama. It may not be Barack’s fault, but shouldn’t he comment on it? Have I missed the coverage of these issues?

Hillary has a lot of warts, but so does Barack. If not a free pass from the media, he has been getting a very easy one.

Despite a veneer of affability, Sharpton (my former classmate by the way 1967-68) is an evil man.

Because of happenstance and place of employ, I have seen Mr. Sharpton on several occasions. All I can say is you should judge a man on the amount of times he washes his hands after he goes to the bathroom (in this case, never).

back in 2006 when ned “flanders” lamont opposed joe lieberman in connecticut, i registered as a dem so i could vote for lieberman in the primary. Lieberman lost to lamont in the primary but ended up running (and winning) as an independent.

i vividly remember the feckless mr. lamont importing race baiters like sharpton and the putrid maxine waters to campaign on his behalf in my state. so when i went to vote in the primary, one of lamont’s people asked me to vote for him. And I got right in her face (nicely, I must say) and told her that since lamont chose to associate himself with the likes of sharpton and waters, he could absolutely count on me NEVER voting for him or respecting him in any way.

I judge men and women (in part) by the company they keep, as do most of the other “Tammycrats” on the board!

That was a noble and righteous thing you did. Good for you.

    DRKEN,
I’m going to take a stab ( pardon the pun ) at your Sharpton/Foxman question.
Aren’t liberal Jew Democrats Dems first and Jews second? I’m talking about the liberal orthodoxy and conformity that Tammy talks about. After all it took 3 days of rioting and Yankel Rosenbaum’s murder to turn the Jewish community around to Rudy’s side. And yet Foxman has no problem seeing boogymen on the Christian right for the slightest transgression.
Might be over simplifying but I figured I’d try.

  10. ConnecticutBruce says:

Thanks Ripper … appreciate your kind words.

Here’s something funny that my wife sent to me:

    Depression Hotline

YOU NEVER KNOW WHO TO CALL !!

I was depressed last night so I called Lifeline.

Got a call center in Pakistan.

I told them I was suicidal.

They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

  11. SlimFemme says:

No one should be surprised by this. Sharpton has made himself into the “spokesperson” for all Blacks. Only this has been done because the media has put him on this pedestal. This guy is a total thug. And not too bright either. I guess that says alot about the sheep that follows him too.

  12. drken says:

    Infidel,
I wish I had a reason for the paradox you mention. I’ve never understood it myself.

    Good one!

  14. getosama says:

sharpton paid homeless people to protest against me many years ago in the bronx. if he can’t find protesters to join him he’ll just buy them.

  15. getosama says:

i recently protested against sharpton at a rally he was speaking at in riverhead ny. he was their to protest the guily verdict of a black man who shot an unarmed white teen. if the skin colors were reversed sharpton would have been protesting the shooting of the teen. a bunch of the rally goers used intimidation to back me away.

  16. getosama says:

it is so sickening how politicians entertain this shameless liar. equally sickening is how many black people look up to this hate monger………if you ever find yourself at a rally and sharpton is near, simply start chanting “TAWANA BRAWLEY” until he slinks away. this seemed to work at the diallo trial.

Where was the “outrage” during this Long Beach, Ca Halloween “hate crime” of 2006?? Sharpton was nowhere to be seen:
