We can thank a homeless man for finding them and turning them in. These plans, as you can imagine, are confidential and reveal the nature of the Freedom Tower schematics. Considering we’re speaking about a new building that terrorists would also want to destroy, there’s a reason these support and constructions details are supposed to be secret.

That homeless New Yorker should be given a new life, help for whatever has made him homeless, medical care for addiction, money, a free apartment, whatever he needs as a thank you for coming forward with this.

Report: NYC Freedom Tower plans found in trash

NEW YORK – A homeless man has come forward with two sets of confidential ground zero blueprints that he says were dumped in a Lower Manhattan trash can.

The man brought the Freedom Tower plans to the New York Post, which says the 150-page schematic is marked: “Secure Document — Confidential.”

The documents are dated Oct. 5, 2007. They contain plans for each floor, the thickness of the concrete-core wall, and the location of air ducts, elevators, electrical systems and support columns.

Good for him. He does deserve a reward. But what about the idiot who threw out the plans?

Can’t wait to see that building built. Looks beautiful.

I agree that the plans should not have been placed in the trash. HOWEVER, as far as these plans being used to help someone plan an attack – the WTC is being built right now, out in the open, for all to see. Anyone with a good camera & long lens could capture information adequate for this purpose. These were just basic structural plans and did not show utilities, materials, or other vital systems in any great detail. I think the “attack” aspect is being sensationalized.

    Tinkerdad,

“The documents are dated Oct. 5, 2007. They contain plans for each floor, the thickness of the concrete-core wall, and the location of air ducts, elevators, electrical systems and support columns.”

How does that not show utilities, materials, and at least two vital systems? And how difficult would it be for a sleeper-cell Islamofascist architectural engineer to pretty accurately infer where the rest of the stuff would be that you seem to be so confident about being missing from those plans?

And, if our enemy managed to secure their own airliner-sized planes and converted them into gigantic Kamikaze aircraft, what the hell difference would it make?

I am not sensationalizing. And I am also not thinking as if today were September 10, 2001.

The homeless man should be rewarded for turning in the blueprints…but handing them over to a newspaper would probably not be my first choice. It sounds like the homeless guy found the prints when they were still in their containers and the newspaper employees opened them up. Good thing the plans weren’t posted for all to see.

I’m really having mixed feelings about this. It’s sad and a paradigm shift of our whole civilized world that hardhat workers have to treat their job like they are working on the atom bomb or the latest secret weapon. On the other hand, Al Queda and the other civilization haters would probably like to have such plans. Unless we all convert to Islam, the future is going to be more dangerous than the past, and we have to guard our plans and live in paranoia.
