Network“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

A post by Maynard

Los Angeles peeps have a rare opportunity to see a theatrical screening of the 1976 film “Network“. It’s an astounding and disturbing movie, far ahead of its time, dramatically exploring the implications of a culture that is losing its soul as it becomes ever-more addicted to the debased fantasies of the corporate media.

“Network” is one of those films you have to see. Catch it at the ArcLight in Hollywood on Wednesday at 8PM. If you can’t be there, here’s Netflix.

Network is a great movie. My favorite scene is where Conchata Ferrell is reeling off the proposed new series plots for the upcoming Television season to Faye Dunaway. Every series is exactly the same plot-line.

It seems things are no more creative nowdays than they were thirty-three years ago. Nothing has changed. It also sounds a lot like politics and the Obama obsession. He’s all shadow and no substance. Just like television.

I saw Network when it came out 32 years ago and thought that the first part was great but the film fell apart the second half.

A truly great movie! To see it today and realize it is over thirty years old inspires awe in Paddy Chayevsky, the film’s author. Reality shows, the tabloidization of news, and the general cheapening of the presentation of news were all foreseen beautifully and presented so well, albeit with some artistic license. Please see it if you haven’t! Randy.

Maynard, I liked this movie. The acting was excellent. The plot made me think about how media culture can destroy lives. Especially when the lead character is having a nervous breakdown and how he’s being exploited. Although the subject matter was deeply disturbing, it proved its point. I wonder if the establishment media gets it??

My only gripe was the ending. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it. But I thought it was really weak!!
