Liberals in this country should be the first ones to recognize how dangerous a new effort by the Department of Homeland Security really is. The American Left knows what it’s like to deal with the likes of J. Edgar Hoover and his lists of enemies, and what can happen when an overzealous government decides certain people are Enemies of the State. Yet, a new nationally massive effort to create a national Enemies List is being promoted by the Obama administration, and decried by the ACLU as an assault on civil liberties. So much for Hope and Change.

‘Fusion Centers’ Expand Criteria to Identify Militia Members
Do you like Ron Paul or oppose abortion? You may be a member of a militia, according to a new report by a government information collection agency.

If you’re an anti-abortion activist, or if you display political paraphernalia supporting a third-party candidate or a certain Republican member of Congress, if you possess subversive literature, you very well might be a member of a domestic paramilitary group.

That’s according to “The Modern Militia Movement,” a report by the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC), a government collective that identifies the warning signs of potential domestic terrorists for law enforcement communities…

MIAC is one of 58 so-called “fusion centers” nationwide that were created by the Department of Homeland Security, in part, to collect local intelligence that authorities can use to combat terrorism and related criminal activities. More than $254 million from fiscal years 2004-2007 went to state and local governments to support the fusion centers, according to the DHS Web site.

During a press conference last week in Kansas City, Mo., DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano called fusion centers the “centerpiece of state, local, federal intelligence-sharing” in the future…”That’s why we started this…. Now we know that it’s not just the 9/11-type incidents but many, many other types of incidents that we can benefit from having fusion centers that share information and product and analysis upwards and horizontally.”

But some say the fusion centers are going too far in whom they identify as potential threats to American security.

People who supported former third-party presidential candidates like Texas Rep. Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin and former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr are cited in the report, in addition to anti-abortion activists and conspiracy theorists who believe the United States, Mexico and Canada will someday form a North American Union.

“Militia members most commonly associate with 3rd party political groups,” the report reads. “It is not uncommon for militia members to display Constitutional Party, Campaign for Liberty or Libertarian material.”

Even the ACLU has issued a strong condemnation of the so-called ‘Fusion Centers’:

Michael German, national security policy counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union, said the report “crosses the line” and shows a disregard for civil liberties.

“It seems to implicate people who are engaging in First Amendment protected activities and suggest that something as innocuous as supporting a political candidate for office would mean that you’re harboring some ill-intent,” German told FOXNews.com. “It’s completely inappropriate.”

German, who claims the number of fusion centers nationwide is closer to 70, said the centers present several troubling concerns, including their excessive secrecy, ambiguous lines of authority, the use of data mining and military participation.

“No two are alike,” German said. “And these things are expanding rapidly.”

The question becomes, after campaigning with a message of transparent government and bringing civil rights back home, why is Obama dropping charges against and releasing terrorists associated with 9/11 and the Cole bombing, which establishing entities in each state meant to classify third-party supporting Americans as potential terrorists? Obama Zombies have a lot to think about these days.

The report also ignores the facts that 1: as of now, being a member of a paramilitary group is not a crime, and 2: All of the domestic terrorism in the last decade or so has been perpetrated by leftists who claim they are saving the planet (such as ELF), and not by anti-abortionists, militias, or other conservative groups.

There are rare occassions when I have been in agreement with the ACLU and this is truly one of those times. We need to mobilize behind and contact the ACLU on this matter. I’m afraid if we aren’t vocal enough, then things will just get brushed aside until innocent people are targeted and made an example of – and then, it will be too late.

Interesting how a National Enemies List is underway about the same time some are going door to door in Utah to sign up people to pledge their support of Odumbass’ agenda. Does anyone else get the sense that lines are being drawn? I wonder if those who sign the ‘I Pledge’ bs will be motivated to turn in friends and neighbors who may be prolife, have third-party affiliations, own a gun, etc.

We may need to truly consider starting a Villager Bail Out Fund.

LNT- I agree with all that everyone is saying about how this is so wrong, but just want to point out one small exception…
Eric Robert Rudolph, blew up the bham alabama abortion clinic… I’m guessing that makes him (and his supporters that helped hide him over the years) “anti abortion”. I presume that the VAST majority of pro life supporters were horrified at this act of violence/terror as well, but I wonder if that’s the excuse MIAC uses to extend this type of status to “pro lifers”. And just curious, does there seem to be a subtle difference in perception regarding the terms? For instance, is someone who is “pro life” deemed more or less a threat, than someone who is “anti abortion”? It’s all about perception, right?

Sounds like KGB intimidation tactics to me. Let people know they’re on a list if they don’t think or act along party lines. Next people will be visited for questioning. Will bogus detentions, trumped up charges, and political prisoners be in short order? Conservatives in Hollywood have poor job prospects due to their political beliefs. Try getting a job at a newspaper or media outlet if you are openly conservative. College campuses make a concerted effort to silence conservative students and make them feel unwelcomed. The mainstream media panders to and covers for liberals. Attempts are being made to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine for talk radio, but nothing of the sort for print or tv. Politics in this country seems to be morphing into that of a corrupt 3rd world country.
Why aren’t we all marching in the streets?
