The report:

A state-owned Chinese refiner plans to ship 30,000 metric tons of gasoline to Iran after European traders halted shipments ahead of possible new UN sanctions, according to Singapore ship brokers.

Beijing has growing commercial and political ties with Iran and has resisted US pressure for sanctions to press Teheran to abandon its nuclear program. Chinese officials say the country is entitled to energy trade.

In the recent era, Obama has bent over backwards, both literally and figuratively, to appease China and Russia. He cancelled the missile defense shield in Europe (a shield against Iran, not Russia) and ignored the currency manipulations and trade advantages of China.

These large concessions might make sense if we actually got anything in return. The general assumption was that we were buying meaningful cooperation in dealing with the Iranian situation. Harsh sanctions, if enforced, could bring down the Iranian regime without spilling blood.

Maybe America and the world will ultimately get value for Obama’s giveaways. But it doesn’t seem to be happening (or if it is, it’s not yet apparent). There’s rising concern that Obama is merely surrendering America’s advantages as a matter of redistributive ideology, and accomplishing nothing other than handing those who wish us ill a good laugh.

    Maynard,
There are two words joined by a hyphen in your report that evoke anger rather than laughter; “state-owned”. I have never understood why the U.S. refuses (and rightly so) to allow cigars to be imported from a human rights suppressing nation like Cuba and yet every toxic toy hand-painted by some exploited Chinese 8 year old enters this country by the containerful every minute of every day. The naive belief that Capitalism (wow, a new market of billions of people to sell cigarettes and tampons to!) would peacefully transform a Communist nation into a thriving Democracy where the dignity of every citizen would be enshrined and protected makes our current President look like the most jaded realist. China, that new bastion of human rights, has slowly and insidiously pilfered all of our technological and intellectual property as well as most of our jobs. It is our economy and our nation that has been transformed into a hobbling, groveling debtor. Weren’t we going to remake them in our image without firing a shot? It seems to all but the hopelessly naive as if the sweat-shop made shoe is on the other foot.

Once the Iranians have a verified bomb, the U.S. should very openly supply Israel with Minuteman III intermediate range nukes, and help them build hardened silos. Perhaps they should also get a nuke sub, with Polaris missles, and some first generation cruise missles to boot. If MAD worked in the cold war, it will have to work again. Ammenutjob is crazy enough to launch a first strike, will Israel be courageous enough to deliver an overwhelming counter strike on launch? I think this threat would bring about a new revolution against the clerics who run the country, just on the announcement. The Iranian people would obviously bear the pain of the supreme leader’s foolish choices.
