A remarkable woman who provided a new definition for women (and some men!) of glamour and independence. May she rest in peace.

Elizabeth Taylor Dies at 79

Surrounded by her four children, the screen legend passes away of congestive heart failure early Wednesday morning in L.A…

“My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love,” her son, Michael, said in a statement to ABC News. “Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts.”

Her family has asked that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in lieu of flowers. Personal messages should be directed to Taylor’s Facebook page.

She sure was stunning, especially when she was young. I think her best role was in “Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf” — just a searing performance by her. I guess she’s able to moonwalk with Michael now.

I prefer the young Elizabeth (before Hollywood and all those men got hold of her) Lassie, National Velvet, Cynthia, A Place in the Sun. I also loved her in Giant and Suddenly Last Summer.
If you haven’t seen A Place in the Sun, please do yourself a favor.

    Another one gone. 🙁

I know that she was ill but i was still shocked when i heard that she passed away.. it always makes me sad when old hollywood actress/actor dies, they are so talented and fabulous back then. I’m sure will be needing therapy when Julie Andrews dies.. so sad.. =(

    Tammy,
That is the most striking and beautiful photo I’ve ever seen of Ms. Taylor. Thanks for sharing that with us. She will be missed.

How can you say there are no stars? Phyllis Diller’s still with us, and active. Gosh, I see she’s even written an autobiography that might be amusing. (She lives in the Los Angeles area, or at least she used to…I wonder if Tammy has ever honked at her?)

I never thought she was a very good actress until I saw her in “Butterfield 8”. She played a tortured call girl. Brilliant.

Now she can start it up again with Burton- they had such chemistry!

  9. SmallgGay says:

Liz was a fashion icon? How can that be? She dressed nothing like Michelle Obama!
