Osama Bin Laden Killed; US Has His Body

Crowds Gather in NYC, DC After Bin Laden Killed

U.S. Issues Travel Alert

Bush: Bin Laden Death ‘Momentous Achievement’

Sarah Palin: A Grateful Nation

Just a few notes, I just heard CNN say this “guarantees” Obama’s re-election. Hardly. While this is fabulous news, for 2012 as theold saying goes, “It’s the economy, stupid.” And it’s a victory that belongs to the military and the American people, not a guy who happened to be president when we finally found the SOB.

Osama Bin Laden Body Headed for Burial at Sea, Officials Say

Raid that got bin Laden was culmination of years of work, sr. admin officials say

Interestingly, the article just above makes it clear the OBL raid was due to “years of work” with early intel from Gitmo prisoners, exactly what we would not have if people like Obama had their way, ranging from not establishing Gitmo at all, to closing it, to the fight over interrogations themselves. Thank God, literally, our military and patriots prevailed as opposed to the left which would have neutered us from the beginning.

It’s about 2am here in Los Angeles. I’m feeling both thrilled but it’s mitigated by the fact that it took us 10 damn years to get this done. Some word is the woman killed in the raid was OBL’s “youngest” bride. Nothing can undo the horror of September 11th, and we still face a world that needs to deal with the cancer of Radical Islam, but I’m feeling what can only be described as ‘closure’ with this news, a relief that the thing known as Osama bin Laden is dead, and that our magnificent Navy Seals delivered the blow. It does send the message, again, that while it may take America some time, we do eventually get the job done.

I will also reiterate that no matter what Obama does to use this politically, he is quite mistaken if he thinks this act will hand him the presidency. He happened to be the POTUS in office who said “go” after years of work done by our military and intelligence services finally delivered up the locale.

Sarah Palin’s Facebook note (linked above) struck the perfect note when it comes to those responsible for this miraculous victory, and those whom we are to thank:

Americans tonight are united in celebration and gratitude. God bless all the brave men and women in our military and our intelligence services who contributed to carrying out the successful mission to bring Bin Laden to justice and who laid the groundwork over the years to make this victory possible. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of these brave Americans who relentlessly hunted down our enemy.

This is a victory for the American people, for the victims who were heartlessly murdered on September 11 and in Al Qaeda’s other numerous attacks, and for all the peace-loving people of the world.

May God bless our troops and our intelligence services, and God bless America!
– Sarah Palin

We should all be appalled if Republican “leaders” line up tomorrow, kneepads slipped on, praising Obama for this event. Giving to go-ahead for a mission we’ve been on for 10 years years does not make the man a hero–it means he did his job. For once.

UPDATE 3am PT:

Corpse buried at sea

The United States is treating Osama bin Laden’s body in “accordance with Islamic practice,” a White House official says.

Weird, we’ve been told for a decade now that OBL “hijacked” Islam while leaders in the Muslim world said OBL wasn’t really a Muslim at all, so why are we considering “Islamic practive” with how we handle the beast’s corpse?

Michael Yon doesn’t like the idea ‘burial at sea’ idea at all.

Major mistake. OBL was/is a powerful cult figure who has vanished with no “death certificate.” His body should have been displayed. The only thing more powerful than a living cult leader is one who disappears off the face of the earth. Making his body disappear was a deadly blunder that plays straight into the hero myth. Joseph Campbell couldn’t have written a more terrible ending.

I would presume we would have video of the corpse, but even with Saddam’s sons, they were laid out for inspection by the press and others. Now, of course, presuming anything with Obama is a mistake considering everything he gets his paws on turns out to be a disaster, so keep your fingers crossed there that they did take video and photographs.

I’m not doing fist pumps but this the world is a better place without OBL.

  5. aggedor says:

They say they’re going to give bin laden’s body a ‘respectful burial,’ probably at sea.

I say the corpse should be ground up and fed to pigs, then the pigs slaughtered and rendered into bags of dry dog food we could auction off to help pay the national debt.

I’ve been in the midst of conflicting emotions for the last few hours. On the one hand, I’m profoundly proud of and grateful for and to our military, for our men and women in intelligence, and especially to the Navy SEALs who got the bastard. On the other hand, I can’t help but look at bin Laden himself and think what an absolute clustertruck that man made of his life, and it saddens and disgusts me that he chose to *waste* his life in such a way that his death is a true cause for celebration. I think one of my Army friends summed it up pretty well: “Justice. Celebrating with a heavy heart for all the lives lost by the war started by this murderous thug dressed in a cleric’s robe.”

My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, living and dead, of this man’s barbarity. May they find a measure of peace.

Edit: Also, did anyone else notice that Obama’s speech seems to have been written last week? He lets the news anchors go on for nearly an hour talking about how OBL was killed a week ago, and then he says, “Today, I authorized a mission …” You can’t update TOTUS? And even with that oversight, you, Mr. President, are so disconnected to the words coming out of your mouth that you don’t realize that sort of glaring error? Or do you simply have a time machine we don’t know about?

May God have mercy on his pathetic excuse for a soul.

Frankly, I’m surprised Urkel had the balls to approve the attack. But then again, a broken clock is right twice a day.

  8. Maynard says:

This is bigger than any one man. It’s not about Obama, or Bush, or even Bin Laden. It’s about the inevitable consequences of such monstrous evil. The message has been made: To embark upon that path is to sign one’s own death warrant. We’ll have ample opportunities to editorialize about our political leadership, but I think this isn’t the moment to do it.

Dealing with Pakistan is a nasty business. My general understanding is their intelligence services are compromised and corrupt, and the business of battling terrorists is mostly a matter of showmanship. When it becomes politically necessary to “do something”, there will be a decision about who it is who will get captured. Money changes hands, and then the troops drive over to the proper house and pick up the designated terrorist. The “capture” is then trumpeted with appropriate fanfare. That’s what I hear, anyway. Occasionally the usual method of doing business wears thin, and then something dramatic happens. There will be repercussions to this, maybe very serious ones. This is one of those moments where you hope people in Washington and the State Department and the Defense Department know what they’re doing, because they may have to scramble to maintain global stability.

So there’s work to be done. But in the meantime, we can all take a moment to remember the murdered Americans and take a degree of satisfaction in this bit of closure.

  9. aggedor says:

Personally I *am* doing a bit of fist-pumping tonight. Defenders of freedom DESERVE a good celebration once in a while. Below is how I first posted the news on tweetface (facebook) after I heard it…

Reverend Wright’s hero, osama bin laden is DEAD. Sorry Rev. Looks like your buddy’s chickens came home to roost. If it makes you feel better look at it this way. The devil made us do it. 😀

  10. ShArKy666 says:

his body shud be flown back to ground zero for the 9/11 families to stomp on and destroy

  11. jeaneeinabottle says:

I guess I’m in a funk, not excited at all. Couldn’t believe we hadn’t killed him a long time ago and now all of a sudden the Jerk brings this out and crowds gather with flags and saw a picture of kids with campaign signs….read tweets that they are going to bury him at sea, a proper burial?? I guess I’m in a funk, because I don’t believe it, or too cynical at this time, I agree with Ann Coulter, show us the body.

  12. mindy says:

Organizer-in-Chief sure got the crowds & flags to WH quickly!!!!

    • Artgal says:

I’m with you on that, Mindy! The president barely leaves the podium and all these people are immediately in front of the WH – signs, flags and all. All college kids, too, for the most part – and how weird is it to see college kids with flags praising America?

There is so much to refute in teh reports coming out, but I at least want to celebrate the demise of a true devil.

So Happy Dead Laden Day, Everyone!

  13. Maynard says:

CNN is now reporting OBL was buried at sea. If true, that will obviously give the inevitable conspiracy theories more legs. But I can imagine the quick disposal of the body might be for the best. If I were president, I’d have Bin Laden’s head on a pike on the White House lawn. But that’s not going to happen. So since we’re doomed to treat the body with “respect”, I’d rather see it vanished than go back to Saudi Arabia for a hero’s welcome. I’m sure they’ve got pictures and tissue samples.

The only real surprise is that Urkel did not wait until next October to announce the news.

  16. dennisl59 says:

    Call me a cynic but:

    1) Trump’s Celebrity Apprentence was interrupted for this? WTF?! I was praying that the Dumb Bastard was going to announce he was resigning.

    2) The Dumb Bastard is doing to the American Economy what bin Laden and al Queda couldn’t do on 9/11. Destroy it.

    3) Islamic Buriel Practices? Why not display the body? Who made this decision? The Dumb Bastard.

    4) The Dumb Bastard made the American people wait for over 30 minutes after the networks made the announcment he was going to declare bin Laden dead. It was anti-climatic wasn’t it? And we got our daily quota of “Me” and ‘I’ too.

    5) The ‘compound’ in the capital of Pakistan? Has it been flattened so it can’t be made into a ‘monument’? Doubt it. It’ll be the Dumb Bastard’s vacation home.

    6) What about the Socal America Traitor or the 2nd in command who continue to make video and audio tapes Dumb Bastard?

    7) Why can’t the Dumb Bastard get the Taliban Website crashed? My theory? It’s hosted in Communist China.

    8) We have the admitted 9/11 mastermind in custody right now in Gitmo. Will the Dumb Bastard get the trial over so he can meet bin Laden in Hell?

Prediction: This will last 2 news cycles and we’ll be right back where we were: The Dumb Bastard and his gang of pissant Socialists attacking the soveriegn states and the American people.

Enjoy a cigar, if you can afford the gas to drive to the store to buy one.

I hope his dirty head was pointing toward Hell as he sunk into the sea. Justice, finally.

  19. Shifra says:

Poor Eric Holder! He must be soooo disappointed that bin Laden was k—d, (can’t use “k” word on site) rather than captured. I’m sure he would have wanted the trial to be held in Manhattan. What a missed opportunity to “show the world our system of justice.” Personally, I always preferred the old Superman (that is, *before* he renounced his US citizenship) TV show line: Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

  20. mariamcbean says:

Why didn’t the Dumb Bastard blame Bush?

  21. naga5 says:

TAMs, don’t forget to thank a soldier today.
twitter was on fire last night! posts were going up so fast , it looked like the national debt clock. all the more reason to get on twitter. it made urkel’s speech quite anticlimactic. and angelaisms, apparently he can’t reload TOTUS. someone on twitter said that he has reduced the office to being a talking head. ron burgundy comes to mind.
the flag is up a little higher today. but be careful, guys. AQ is pissed, pakistan looks embarrassed and there are plenty of black swans left.

Wonderful news. ALL the gratitude goes to the work of our awesome military and intelligence services.

But must admit, when I read the blurb on Fox News saying that the disgusting pig was “buried at sea according to islamic law” I got pretty upset. First of all, WHY in heavens name would we honor this piece of garbage by giving him a “proper” burial?? (Oh, let me guess–In hopes of not inflaming the Muslims and avoiding their retaliation? Yeah. That’ll work… .) Secondly, I immediately thought how we needed to SEE the body and that it should have been held until DNA confirmation was completed. Apparently, DNA testing is still in the works. Why the big hurry to dispose of the body?? (On that point, I felt some consolation in the thought that perhaps OBL was a bit worse for wear after we were done with him, and this step might have avoided our military heroes from being charged with some type of crime. I’m sorry, but I hope we made him suffer.) And then I thought of how BO would use this to some political advantage, but being that this is about the only thing he has done right in giving the go ahead–nothing more–I don’t think it will ultimately make a difference in 2012.

  23. Slimfemme says:

I want to see the body. We as Americans are entitled to see his corpse on display. Who gives a damn a proper muslim burial at sea!! Mark my words, Obama will use this as a campaign issue. I can picture it now: I got Osama Bin Laden. I want to see this beast’s body.

  24. Carol says:

Did Urkel refer to ObL (who apparently is now known as UbL) as a corpseman?

  25. otlset says:

I’m disappointed they no longer have the body. I would have much preferred his head be hoisted up on a high stake and paraded with much fanfare around the ground zero area, with signs and chants of “Death to Islamic killers! Revenge! Death to Al-Queda!” Broadcast live on Al-Jazeera of course.

    • Ritz says:

Yes, that’s what CJ’s understand. A good thorough beat-down would impress upon them our strength…with a subtle, ‘don’t you try that again’.

  26. TammyChicago says:

Relieved that the SOB is *finally* dead. Barry inhereted a wealth of information, resources and military experts who deserve the credit for this. It figures that
we take out the #1 Islamic terrorist and yet STILL manage to take measures NOT
to offend Islam. Another WTF moment for Obama.

  27. dennisl59 says:

  30. otlset says:

I understand the Pakistanis were by and large kept in the dark about this operation, to prevent them from tipping Bin-Laden off and allowing his escape.

How did Pakistan NOT know all this time that Bin-Laden was there in a large luxury compound all this time? I think they knew — and have much to answer for as a consequence.

Republicans are like 7/11 store employees where when robbed they are instructed to not fight back, give the criminals what they want and hopefully you life will be spared.

Instead, the Conservatives should be like the Navy Seals, plan your mission, do a cost analyses, collateral damage assessment, gather a few “staunch” Conservatives and launch your strike with everything you’ve got at your targets, and then pull out, letting the American people see what was done and how much stronger we all will become.

  35. radargeek says:

So this war isn’t about islam but we give this askhole an islamic burial?? WTF??? I knew O’dummer would piss on America’s parade when he had Osama buried under islamic tradition. Why did this askhole deserve such kindness?? I would have preferred to have his body to be dragged through a hog farm before blowing-up his dead body in a suicide bomber’s vest over a pig excrement pit. Now that we know where this askhole has been hiding and how pack-a-stand has been covering it up and helping him, how is this government going to punish Pakistan??? I bet they don’t do pigsh\t!!

What a missed opportunity to “show the world our system of justice.” Meanwhile, CNN reports that BHO is scheduled to meet with the 9/11 families at Grounc Zero on Thursday. What a great photo op *that* will be! Of course, the Libs accused Bush of using 9/11 for political gain. Double standard —so, what else is new?

  37. blogchick says:

Agreed. I probably sound like a kook, but oh well.

This administration has trained me well to NOT believe one single thing that they say or do. Way more strange than the birth certificate reveal last week. I am glad that OBL is dead. But it was likely years ago. This looks politically expedient from my vantage point.

But as always, I am proud of our troops.

why are my comments awaiting moderation?

    • Tammy says:

Obviously, not all of them are. The system tags comments if certain words are used or if links are included. Comments are generally moderated here. Don’t take it personally.

      • Ritz says:

Nope, I only take life or death things seriously. This is just a blog. It was only a clinical question. Upon review, I’m guessing the ‘J’ word tripped the circuit.

        • Tammy says:

This may be “just a blog” to you but it’s quite a bit more to me and a few other people 🙂 Words that reference certain types of violence and obscenities will tagged, as will certain derogatory terms used against women and gays. Not that *those* ever get posted by trolls! 🙂

  39. ashleymatt says:

    Go Navy!

I know I’m late posting, but as I said on Facebook: I’m going to be celebrating the death of bin Laden all week, one day was not enough. I do give credit to the President for giving the order; I thank God that our POTUS still had the will to do that. It doesn’t change the fact that he is a Marxist, but he did the right thing over this weekend.
The Islamic burial crap angered me to no end, but as one of my patients, an elderly woman, said, “At least he is dead and they buried him.” In the end, that is what matters. I am very thankfull that he did not surrender, so that we were able to shoot him in the face. I was angry that this took so long; I feared this day would never come. But now it has. And we are righteously triumphant. 😀
