The headline is, of course, the undertstatement of all time. Here’s your weird, hypocritical and schizophrenic moment for the night. MSNBC comparing Romney (or conservatives or tea partyers) to the KKK (“racist!”) is pretty standard fare over at MSNBC, which is exactly what happened earlier today. Now Chris Matthews., the network’s Alpha Tingles, is apologizing even though he had nothing to do with it. Mediaite has all the background. Here are the two videos, first the initial report then the Matthews apology which is fun to listen to only because of the phrase “appalling lack of judgment” which describes everything on that network.

Chris Matthews on Republicans: “Here’s a party that — I’m just keeping the list. They want more people to fry. They love executions. They want people that don’t have insurance to die on the gurney in the hospital bed. They want that to happen. They want — forget about illegal aliens. Gay soldiers, forget about them. They’re not — they’re to be booed. If you’re homeless, foreclose — if you have a home, foreclose on the people. If you’re a teacher, fireman or a cop, get rid of the guy! I mean, this attitude of causing cruel pain on people and getting cheers for it, what’s that about, Howard? You’re giving me that look. They’re in my head with this. I want to know where these candidates are heading with this.”

For the record, that Chris Matthews clip (from Hardball, October 25, 2011) is on YouTube; just search on keywords “chris matthews gurney”.

It’s really weird to stand endlessly accused of having such evil intent, this coming from the people (many of the well-intentioned) that have done such blatant, obvious real-world harm. The human ability to live in a fantasy world is an astounding thing. (And a cautionary example; we must be ever-vigilant not to ourselves lose touch with reality.)

Mr. Peabody! Can the TAMS ride in the Wayback Machine?

  2. It was an “appalling lack of judgement” because it wasn’t meant to be used during the primary season. They want Romney to be the nominee, and this was supposed to be used AFTER he secured the nomination. “Appalling lack of judgement” in timing only.

Matthews slurs his words…even while apologizing for his network. geez.

That was nice, “Incendurrary”. He sounds drunk every day. Makes him sound like an even bigger marxist knot head than he already is. MSFUUSA, you guys rock!

I was about to comment, “good Lord, the man can’t even spell ‘incendiary’ correctly…don’t ask him to pronounce ‘nuclear’ anytime soon!” Then I read your comment and giggled.

“Barack Obama was not given this nomination, he won it. He was not offered a nice title like Secretary of State, like Condoleezza Rice got from the Republicans. He was not offered the title of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs as Colin Powell was, or Secretary of State. He won the nomination of a Democratic Party voting together. He defeated all other opponents and took the prize and took the leadership. He is the chosen leader of the Democratic Party.
He is not some popular appointment or a showcase appointment.”
