Good grief. Just plain good grief.

Edwards’ speech after the verdict. Really, what an SoB.

After 9 days of deliberation, a jury has found John Edwards not guilty on one of six charges of campaign finance corruption brought against him. A mistrial has been declared on the other five counts.

After initially announcing Thursday afternoon that it had reached a unanimous verdict on only one of six charges against Edwards, the judge sent the jury back to continue deliberations on the remaining five counts. Shortly after that, the jurors said they were deadlocked on those counts, at which point the judge announced a verdict of not guilty on the third count against Edwards, which charged that he had accepted and received illegal campaign contributions in 2008 from Rachel “Bunny” Mellon.

The judge then declared a mistrial on the remaining five counts.

Speaking in front of the courthouse following the turn of events, Edwards thanked the jurors for their “incredibly hard work and their diligence” in the case, as well as his family, and reiterated that he did not believe that he had broken a law.

So the Feds take a guy to trial and they’re not able (again) to get a conviction. Whether it’s a terrorist or a regular scumbag like Edwards, if you’re gonna go to trial at least know what the hell you’re doing.

Twitter reacted with some appropriate ridicule and snark. One of my favorites:

John Edwards is a loser. He is guilty of immorality, not to mention a disgraceful father. What a waste of time and $ this poor excuse of a man is.

Silky Pony must lead a charmed life. I predict the US Attorney won’t retry the case if the deadlock is 6-6, or worse. From what I know of the case, that count was the meat and potatoes of the indictment.

We are all LUCKY not to be this guy. He’s a living public announcement of how not to conduct ones life. “The more you know.”

    The OJ jury gets around.
Whatever, he’s still the guy who lied to everybody in his life and had an affair with a woman as detestable as him while his wife was dying of cancer.

“If I want to find the person who should be accountable for my sins, honestly, I don’t have to go any further than the mirror. It is me and me alone.”

Honestly, we already know that. There was never any confusion in the minds of others about blame. Are we supposed to think he is a humble man for admitting what is undeniably true?

He is not humble or remorseful. It is the pose of a self-absorbed arrogant man. For him, a display of humilty serves as a shining example of his superiority. It is an ornament, another thing to admire about himself when he looks in the mirror.

He lauds his parents for doing such a wonderful job of “raising me”.

He praises his children for loving him.

He congratulates himself for making breakfast for his 12-year old son.

He’s going to help all the poor children of the world.

He wants to be regarded as a superior man who lives a simple life among the ordinary while doing great things that please God. Kind of like a Jesus with a stylish haircut and an expensive suit.

“I don’t think God is through with me. I really believe there’s still some good things I can do.”

I also think God is not through with John Edwards, not until the man learns true humility.
