This is an open thread for your comments on today’s events. As promised, Obama used children as political pawns in an effort to manipulate people into disarming themselves. Well, we care abut children, too, which is why we don’t want this entire nation to be a bloodbath like “gun-free” Chicago. Here’s the latest:

The List, via Fox Nation.

History is chock full of examples of the real agenda behind “firearms control”. People are just too dumb to read and learn. Banning intimate objects isn’t going to do one flipping thing to make crazy people less crazy or get to the root of societal degeneration.

  2. otlset says:

    In Obama’s America…

“Our background check revealed you once belonged to a local Tea Party chapter. Thus after consulting with the justice department, we will not be returning your firearm to you. And in addition you will not be allowed to purchase any firearm in the future.”

Nothing about the over use of gun fighting to sell entertainment?

  4. NeverSurrender says:

obama also wants legislation for a 10-round limit on magazines, implying that that will save lives. Using the same logic, why not a call for a limit on the alcohol content in liquor to reduce drunk driving?

I, for one, will not watch the inauguration of the DB but will love watching impeachment procedures if anyone in Washington can get a grip on what’s happening and stand up to this SOB.

I guess George Bush Sr. set a precedent by a firearms-related executive order.

It was clear Obama was going to “do something”. I’m not even reading the details at this point; I assume it’s impossible to know what will be in place when the dust settles.

I think we all understand that none of this is about safety; it’s all about slapping down a segment of America that is disliked by the people in power. Everything that comes out of this Administration is designed to show independent Americans who the boss is, and to rub your face in it. Now you know what it feels like to be on the bottom of the pile, and to have the bully beat on you. That’s the psychology at work here. The president called upon his supporters to vote for revenge, and now he’s delivering.

I would like to see an organized campaign of civil disobedience. Let Obama send the goons to beat us for not turning in our contraband, smoking in the wrong place, having the wrong light bulb, whatever. At some point, the fascistic nature of what Washington has become will be more obvious. But probably not until a good deal of unpleasantness has come to pass. Too bad.

These 23 edicts will keep guns out of the hands of criminals how?

    • ffigtree says:

      Oh, wait! We’re the criminals!
In my best Emily Litella impersonation, “Never mind”.

      • plaisir says:

I think no. 4 addresses your concerns. Atty Gen. Fast and Furious is going to check a list of “categories of individuals” to make sure “dangerous” people who shouldn’t have guns don’t slip through the cracks. I’m sure criminals will enthusiastically answer the call to give up arms. And my level of confidence in Atty Gen. Fast and Furious being able to keep track of errant guns and miscreants is sky high. Isn’t yours?

Wait a minute. Number 14 requests the CDC to “research the causes and prevention of gun violence”. Shouldn’t we at least wait for that?

Most of this is a lot of motion going nowhere. Maybe to hide some of the more sinister aspects such as–

#2: “Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.”

Are we going to change the privacy laws?

    From HHS.gov

The Office for Civil Rights enforces the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information; the HIPAA Security Rule, which sets national standards for the security of electronic protected health information; and the confidentiality provisions of the Patient Safety Rule, which protect identifiable information being used to analyze patient safety events and improve patient safety.

  14. Chuck says:

The way some of these are phrased is laughable. Why do you need an executive order to order yourself to do something (for example 1, 4, 9, 14, and 15)? Shouldn’t he as the president just go ahead and give the order directly to his subordinates?

It looks like a list put out by someone else for him to do, and he rubber stamped it without review.

  18. LJZumpano says:

Punishing law-biding citizens who own guns will not stop spree killers. Spree killers are disillusioned, feel they have been wronged and they are determined to get revenge. Their goal is to slaughter as many as possible, as quickly as possible before they meet their own death. They have given up on life completely.
The killers at VA Tech, at Columbine, at Tuscon, at Aurora, at Newtown and even at Fort Hood are all spree killers. None suddenly had a break with reality that led them to immediately go out and slaughter. They all showed signs of planning, even hoarding the items they were going to use to carry out their horrendous plan. While some showed signs of distress, others appeared completely “normal” until the fatal moment. In each case, we were shocked. How could this have happened! Why would anyone go after innocents in such a brutal way! We blamed ourselves for “missing” the warning signs. We blamed, in fact, everyone and everything but the actual killer! This must never happen again we said, and yet it did, and it does and it will continue. We are impotent when it comes to stopping the spree killer. He (and yes it can also be a she) lurks among us, dissatisfied, isolated, feeling bullied and abused, filling up with a rage for revenge that is only limited by the depths of his imagination. In Aurora the killer plotted to continue killing after death by booby trapping his apartment! The human ability to manipulate and deceive is apparent when we catch a pedophile. They turn out to be folks we would never have suspected. People we might have even trusted our children with. If we can not predict who among us will be a pedophile, how are to distinguish the potential spree killer? It is a most difficult task and no gun law will prevent him from acting upon his plan.
What we can do is make it difficult for him. In Newtown, the schools tried to provide safeguards that would keep bad guys away from the children. Those measures saved lives. They bought time and each barrier and obstacle gave law enforcement precious minutes to get to the scene. Better barriers, and an armed guard might have saved even more lives, but no gun law, how ever “feel good” it might be, would made a difference.
Experts who teach police, soldiers and citizens how to shot to kill explain that it is something which is taught. They agree that certain video games, in the hands of children, can desensitize them to the reality of killing, but millions of children throughout the world are exposed to brutal, real-life killing every day and do not become spree killers. Millions suffer from some form of mental disturbance, and few of them fall into the spree killer category. A committed spree killer will use a weapon of opportunity, research for a weapon of impact or resort to his bare hands if necessary to accomplish his plan.
We need to understand that this individual, just like the pedophile, is very difficult to discover ahead of time. We can take steps to prevent him from hurting our children. We can be aware of unusual behavior, we can be alert to our surroundings. We can keep our schools from becoming sitting duck zones with our children as the target. In some cases, having an armed guard may be an option. In most schools we can uncover numerous weak spots which we can strengthen without terrorizing our children or making them feel they are in a prison instead of a school. We can learn from the past, and at a minimum increase the number of precious few minutes between a spree killer and his target. In Newtown, it was all over in 15 minutes. The measures taken by the school and teachers to gain vital seconds, saved hundreds of lives that day. They were under siege and “manned the walls” to the best of their ability against the breach. We may never be able to rid the world of spree killers, but we sure can find ways to make it difficult for him to carry out his plan.

Good NRO column on The All-Theater All-the-time President.

“…his stagey histrionics, his endless reliance upon human props, his cheap sloganeering, his emotionally driven hectoring: all of that bespeaks a very deep contempt for his audience, which is the American people… I still get a solicitation for Democratic donations every single day. (I do not remember when I last saw an RNC solicitation.)… Obama’s politics of histrionics — the little children, the Sandra Flukes, the imperial stage dressing — also is conceived with the goal of overwhelming thought. That tells you something about the president and what he stands for….”

Solar news. FERC is proposing rule changes to increase the number and size of small solar builders who can get fast-tracked for connecting to electrical grid. Increases size of solar project eligible for fast-tracking from 2 MegaWatts to 5 MegaWatts. Rule change is based on California’s solar rules.
    http://www.power-eng.com/articles/2013/january/ferc-proposes-rule-to-speed-up-solar-energy-grid-interconnections.html

This will create headaches for electric utilities, increase electrical costs, and rewards Obama supporters. So his base is rewarded and the average citizen gets shafted – oh yeah, that’s why they’re doing it.
