Due to the Ergagherd Sequester!, tours in the White House have been stopped and it looks like we’re closing 173 air traffic control towers as well. But don’t worry, the three calligraphers in the White House we’re paying $277,050 have escaped unscathed. Go figure.

Calligraphers? Not one, but three calligraphers on the White House Staff? What do they need a team of calligraphers for?

    • Gordon says:

Scribes are needed to record all of the incredibly brilliant Obama-isms that the DB produces…This was a standard for all Pharaohs…”As it is written so let it be done.”

      • otlset says:

Yep, in the largest, most showy and ornate calligraphic style, suitable for the nation’s first ‘black’ President. Including such revered sayings as ‘You didn’t build that.” and “The police acted stupidly” among many other crowd favorites, sure to increase in significance and reverence in the media-driven socialist years to come.

If I had known that being a calligrapher would pay this much I would have learned how to do it long ago.

  3. TigerAim says:

I would think that modern computers would make calligraphers obsolete. There are so many fancy fonts in word processing programs now – good grief! Anything to just waste our money!

While in college in the 70’s, pursuing a Commercial Art degree, the teacher of my graphics class told us, “One day, ten-percent of you will make a lot of money doing this. The rest of you will end up doing something else.”
I’ve always wondered where some of those 10% ended up.

A calligraphy expert (much less 3 experts) is as needed at the WH as a hieroglyphics expert. Oops, don’t want to give the WH any ideas.

The expert Tammy calligraphy inspired me. So I went to translation program and following are translations for: Dumb Bastard.

    Chinese simplified – 愚蠢的家伙
    Japanese – ばかなやつ
    Korean – 멍 청 한 놈

White House calligraphers earn $96,725/year! Who would have thought that penmanship could be so lucrative.

And this is how the administration is responding to the sequester.

“In a letter this week to Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, the U.S. Department of Energy warned that the sequestration order could result in about $90 million in reduced funding for DOE’s Oak Ridge contractors and the furlough or layoff of an estimated 1,400 employees….” http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2013/mar/06/report-sequester-could-affect-1400-oak-ridge/?partner=yahoo_feeds

“Federal budget cuts that went into effect last week will likely lead to the layoff of as many as 84 security workers at the Idaho National Laboratory, according to energy department officials….” http://magicvalley.com/news/local/federal-budget-cuts-lead-to-layoffs-at-idaho-national-laboratory/article_a0c05f20-866e-11e2-8300-0019bb2963f4.html

Adobe makes software that would do this kind of work. It’s kind of expensive, but it does a good job.

  10. Maynard says:

Off topic: Hey, Tammy, does Sydney do this?

  11. littlefirefly says:

    Inconceivable!

I think we need to cut a bit of slack here. Have you seen Michele’s handwriting? Recall on the trip to England when she wrote in guest book. She needs all the help a handwriting expert can provide.

Heard 15min. on the car radio this morning (my first time hearing), Dawn Bennett show, Financial Myth Busting. She was Fabulous! Said everything that Tammy says about unemployment rate, stock market, youth unemployment, depression caused by financial situation, media not talking about financial situation, etc., but she does it even better (I know hard to believe) because of her knowledge. Definitely worth listening to what she says.
