timepope

As most of you know, I believe in the Jesus but have a problem with organized religion. But this Pope Francis guy has made me take a serious look how the power and influence of the Catholic Church can do very good things. In other words, so far, I love this guy! Yes, he’s not an economist and he’s said a funny thing or two about capitalism, but I’ll leave the spiritual world to him and let’s leave the economic world to American conservatives 🙂

None of us like the mainstream media like Time, but this story and having Pope Francis on the cover will get more people to talk about a decent man who leads a religion that doesn’t rely on having women live in potato sacks, throwing acid in little girl’s faces, shooting kids in the head or blowing up innocent people. Yeah, let’s have a conversation about real faith, real decency and real godliness.

Pope Francis Is Time’s Person of the Year; Snowden Is No. 2

Being the earthly leader of the Catholic Church has its perks. Among them: You’re a 50/50 bet to be Time magazine’s Person of the Year at some point.

Pope Francis, the secret-alms-giving, random-faithful-calling, non-homosexuality-judging new pontiff from Argentina, is the magazine’s choice for 2013, edging out runners-up Edward Snowden and Edith Windsor.

He becomes the third pope in 51 years to hold the title. Reformer John XXIII was 1962′s POY (then still the Man of the Year, actually) and John Paul II got the nod in 1994. Not recognized during that span were Popes Paul XI VI and his successor, John Paul I, and Francis’s predecessor, Benedict XVI.

Francis’s reformist tendencies could make him a somewhat controversial choice, but Snowden, the former NSA contractor whose leaks about the agency’s far-reaching surveillance efforts have been dominating headlines for months, would have been far more controversial.

In an email interview, Snowden tells Time’s Michael Scherer that — unlike, say, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange — he acted responsibly. “There have of course been some stories where my calculation of what is not public interest differs from that of reporters, but it is for this precise reason that publication decisions were entrusted to journalists and their editors,” he said. “I recognize I have clear biases influencing my judgment.”

He is a humble man. His warmth has touched the world. But I guarantee that he will be ostracized at some point in the future because he follows in the footsteps of Jesus who said :” If they persecuted me, they will persecute you.” John 16:20. He will disappoint people who can’t bear the truth. As for me, I will always stand by him, accolades or not.

    Good for Time.

I know that being selected POY does not necessarily mean that the magazine thinks you are a force for good or agrees with your positions, but with John Paul II in 1994 and now Francis, 50 years later is Time magazine ready to answer the question that its 1966 cover posed (Is God Dead?).

Thank the Lord it wasn’t Miley! 🙂

I love his humility to counter oh so many other “leaders.” (Cough, cough)

An interesting take on the economic side of things by one of my favorite priests, Fr. Robert Sirico, who stands up for business and often speaks about how social justice doesn’t require socialism. Yeah, the Church has never fared well under socialism or worse, just ask the Czechs and Hungarians. 🙂

I dont know, him actually using the term “trickle down” is going a little bit too far into partisan territory for me. Makes me nervous he’s going to start bringing up Halliburton or the Koch brothers next.

IMHO the *Pope* (the position not the man) is being used by the Lib/Progs here. What a surprise. There is def no religion involved in this decision. I’m a Lutheran so have been lovingly labeled ‘Catholic Lite’ by my Catholic friends. 🙂 They are not pleased with this, not at all. Interesting times we live in.

Someone to look for this next year. FNC has hired Lea Gabrielle. Don’t know anything about her other than the resume at the link, but the resume is interesting. Do San Diego TAMs have any insights? She’ll be on Shep Smith’s show. Good to see Shep hiring some muscle.

She flew a single-seat, carrier-based F18 in combat operations and was later deployed with a U.S. Special Operations team as an intelligence officer supporting combat missions.”

Nominate Prince Harry for Person of the Day. His walk for charity team has reached the South Pole today, Friday the 13th.

Wonder what time zone you are in at the South Pole? And is it standard time or daylight savings?
