Talk about an intense day, and it’s not even close to being over.

First, the horrible news about the Malaysian airliner being shot down over Ukraine. Much of the initial information is speculation, but one thing that has been confirmed is that it was shot down with a missile. Now the work begins to pinpoint the location of battery and perhaps that will give us information as to who did this.

And, of course, the embarrassment here is that Obama, once again, exhibited how much of a fool he really is. We have 295 lost souls, and 23 dead Americans in this horrific act. He stepped awat from a photo op at a burger joint, then spent 38 seconds addressing the crisis which is said “may” be a tragedy. Then, like a robot, went into some prepared speech blaming the GOP for something and demanding money for something. You know, the usual. Here’s the clip.

Then, Israel sends ground troops into Gaza. If Israel is really going to take care of business and wipe out the terrorist scum there, this is good news. In addition to making Israel safe, it would also free the Palestinians from being used as cannon fodder by these terrorists. Everyone deserves better.

Prayers for Israel, the IDF, and those families who lost loved ones today. These are the days that try men souls. Too bad we have a child in the WH.

If the Republicans had any moxie, they would introduce a bill for providing weapons to Ukraine and call it the Mitt Romney Geopolitical Freedom Act.

Some words from Ronald Reagan following the Soviet shoot-down of the Korean jet in 1983. I seriously doubt that we’ll be hearing anything remotely close to this from Barack Hussein Obama.

“As we work with other countries to see that justice is done, the real test of our resolve is whether we have the will to remain strong, steady, and united. I believe more than ever — as evidenced by your thousands and thousands of wires and phone calls in these last few days — that we do.

I have outlined some of the steps we’re taking in response to the tragic massacre. There is something I’ve always believed in, but which now seems more important than ever. The Congress will be facing key national security issues when it returns from recess. There has been legitimate difference of opinion on this subject, I know, but I urge the Members of that distinguished body to ponder long and hard the Soviets’ aggression as they consider the security and safety of our people — indeed, all people who believe in freedom. . . .

When John F. Kennedy was President, defense spending as a share of the Federal budget was 70 percent greater than it is today. Since then, the Soviet Union has carried on the most massive military buildup the world has ever seen. Until they are willing to join the rest of the world community, we must maintain the strength to deter their aggression.

But while we do so, we must not give up our effort to bring them into the world community of nations. Peace through strength as long as necessary, but never giving up our effort to bring peace closer through mutual, verifiable reduction in the weapons of war. . . .

We know it will be hard to make a nation that rules its own people through force to cease using force against the rest of the world. But we must try.

This is not a role we sought. We preach no manifest destiny. But like Americans who began this country and brought forth this last, best hope of mankind, history has asked much of the Americans of our own time. Much we have already given; much more we must be prepared to give.

Let us have faith, in Abraham Lincoln’s words, “that right makes might, and in that faith let us, to the end dare to do our duty as we understand it.” If we do, if we stand together and move forward with courage, then history will record that some good did come from this monstrous wrong that we will carry with us and remember for the rest of our lives.

The more civilized humans become, the more heinous they can be. A young woman who missed flight #MH17 because of a slow taxi said that she believes she’s been “given a second chance”. The world is running out of second chances.

Latest word out of Russia is that Putin has branded that unfortunate air crash a “phony scandal”.

Last week has so affected Obama, that he’s not going on his West Coast fundraiser trip until Tuesday. Seattle, San Francisco, and LA (Wed. night & Thursday). Fundraising from behind! http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign-spot/383235/era-presidential-attention-deficit-disorder-jim-geraghty

Open thread note; The Daily Caller stands up to Obama administration bullying. The DC in writing about Kerry’s appearance with Chris Wallace noted that this was the first time for Kerry on FNC in some time. State Dept. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs then emailed the article author from a private email account that article was wrong and this email is off the record. DC took position of we didn’t agree to off the record and you lie, so DC has printed the private email from DAS State. Kudos, The DC.
