A suspected shooter is dead at the scene of a reported school shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington state, police said.
Police were clearing school buildings to ensure there was no ongoing threat, Marysville Police administrative commander Robb Lamoureaux said.
The Marysville, Washington, Police Department earlier said it responded to a report of shooting and that FBI personnel also were en route to the school, which is about 40 miles north of Seattle.
Evacuations of the school were underway, according local station KOMO.
A student opened fire at a high school north of Seattle, injuring several people, then killing himself, police said.
At a briefing, police said they are going through the school to make sure the danger has passed. Marysville Police Cmdr. Robert Lamoureux said, “We are confident there was only one shooter.”
Police learned of the shooting from a 911 call from someone inside the school at about 10:45 a.m., Pacific time, Lamoureux said.
The Marysville school district released a statement that says, “the Marysville Pilchuck High School is currently in lock down due to an emergency situation. Police and emergency services have responded.
