Update: Although it was anticipated that Mooch’s school lunch plan was ready to crash and burn, turns out the GOP caved on this one, too:

Via Breitbart: GOP Cave: CRomnibus Will Not Include Relief from Michelle Obama’s School Lunch Program

Though school officials, nutritionists, parents, and students have decried First Lady Michelle Obama’s school lunch program, the $1 trillion CRomnibus (part “continuing resolution” and part “omnibus”) does not include relief from the unpopular meals standards after all….

Here is what was anticipated:

Via NY Post: Federal budget bill hits Michelle Obama in the gut

One of the losers in the $1.01 trillion spending bill to keep the government running is Michelle Obama.

Among the many provisions tucked into the 1,603-page budget bill is one that would give schools a pass on serving whole grain products in students’ meals.

The bill also puts off a first lady-backed attempt to make the lunches less salty by 2017….

Unappetizing new foods and resulting drops in lunch sales are “crippling” some schools’ budgets, said Patricia Montague, head of the School Nutrition Association. The standards “were well intended, but have resulted in unintended, adverse consequences.”

…Some students and schools have rebelled, saying the whole wheat tortillas, biscuits and pizza dough are costly and just gross. Students posted pics of their ruined tacos and wilted greens under the hashtag #ThanksMichelleObama.

Meanwhile, here is the lunch menu for Dec. 9 at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School that the Obama girls attend:

Potato Sausage Soup; Firecracker Slaw; California Chef’s Salad; All Natural Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings; Sweet Potato Black Bean Bake; Sautéed Local Greens, Gemelli Alfredo; Sliced Pineapple

Daily hot lunch at Sidwell Friends is free.

Yearly tuition, though, is $36,264…

Regarding the Crapulus bill, while it hasn’t passed the Senate yet and we don’t know much about what is in it, my ‘favorite’ item in it so far was the rider attached to it that revises how much you can donate to political party PACs from 97k to 777k. That’s what is being called the war on the Tea Party to protect the establishment from primary challenges. Several thoughts; McCain and the media declaim money buying elections, will he/they speak up here? Democrats spout off about Citizens United, will they vote against this? Why aren’t contributions to a candidate increased by $680,000, why just to PACs? I think this is the KarlRove PayBack rider. Rove’s PACs were not getting the money that they used to, so like Democrats, rather than persuade more people to give to him, he gets the limit raised for those who still contribute. Perfect example of why campaign finance laws need to be minimized. The politicians in power make them a protection scheme.

With mathematicians like Professor Gruber this is the result. Maybe the plan is to fill the ditch with $$ and we’ll float out.

Anybody else remember the debate during the 1990s over funding for the school lunch program, when Democrats said that Republicans wanted to starve children?
