Looks like Peggy Noonan has been hanging out with too many Beltway Libs.

Because her latest column smacked of the self-righteous, holier-than-thou tone we have come to expect of “the elites.”

Via WSJ: A Flawed Report’s Important Lesson

Although Noonan acknowledges that

…the report was issued just as a defeated Democratic majority walked out the door, and has the look of a last, lobbed stink bomb: “See what the terrible Bush administration did? Bye now!” There is about the entire enterprise a sense of sin being expiated at someone else’s expense….

Here’s what she says about the actions of the CIA:

…torture is bad. It makes people lose respect for you. And when you come most deeply to terms with it, it can make you lose respect for you, too….

…America should never again do what is asserted and outlined in the report, which enumerates various incidents of what I believe must honestly be called torture. American policy should be to treat prisoners the way we would hope—with clear eyes, knowing it is a hope—our prisoners would be treated.

The war we are engaged in is different, we know, and it is still going on and will be for some time, but it won’t help us fight it to become less like ourselves and more like those we oppose. Torture is not like us. It’s not part of the American DNA. We think of ourselves as better than that because we’ve been better than that.

….We can’t use torture methods and still at the same time be the hope of the world. You’re an animal like the other animals or you’re something different, something higher, and known to be different and higher….

Bret Stephens, however, ”gets” it.

Maybe because he was the editor-in-chief of The Jerusalem Post for two years, and he understands the nature of what we are up against with the Islamofascists.

Via WSJ: I Am Not Sorry the CIA Waterboarded

I am not sorry Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the operational mastermind of 9/11, was waterboarded 183 times. KSM also murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl in 2002. He boasted about it: “I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew,” he said after his capture.

I am sorry KSM remains alive nearly 12 years after his capture. He has been let off far too lightly. As for his waterboarding, it never would have happened if he had been truthful with his captors. It stopped as soon as he became cooperative. As far as I’m concerned, he waterboarded himself.

I am not sorry the CIA went to the edge of the law in the aftermath of 9/11 to prevent further mass-casualty attacks on the U.S….

I am sorry we weren’t willing to do those “things” before 3,000 people had their lives unnaturally ended on Sept. 11, 2001….

I am not sorry that Sen. Feinstein went ahead and released her report. In its partisanship, its certitudes, its omissions of reportage and recommendation, and its attempt to seem authoritative merely by being verbose, it has reopened a necessary debate that was nearly closed—and nearly lost. Eventually we will have another mass-casualty attack on U.S. soil. We’ll need better than Ms. Feinstein’s insipid shibboleths to answer it.

And for that, I am sorry—for all of us.

The libs are the quintessential hypocrites. They rue about splashing water on some fiendish murderer’s face while they make our lives acidic by their ridiculous interpretations of written law. They make good things bad with an evil that they call good intentions. Their plans with destroy the host that America is and in the process destroy not only the beauty of our freedom but themselves as well.
