This will obviously help solve the vote-split issue and while his votes will go to both Trump and Cruz, the Rubio supporters are especially not fans of Trump, so this will likely help Cruz considerably more. We shall see. Now Bush, Christie, Carson, Fiorina and Gilmore all need to do the same. They have until Friday to remove themselves from the California ballot.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, the former candidate for president, formally removed his name from California’s crowded June ballot, elections officials said Monday.

Rubio did not offer a motivation in his signed affidavit to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

But a recent poll showed Rubio’s continued presence on the statewide ballot could siphon away votes from Ted Cruz and John Kasich, the two GOP candidates trying to prevent Donald Trump from capturing the requisite number of delegates.

Rubio feuded bitterly with Trump before exiting the race earlier this month, and has yet to endorse anyone else in the race.

California’s primary ballot features the names of 42 presidential candidates. Eight of them are Republicans, including ex-contenders Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and Jim Gilmore.

Candidates have until Friday to officially remove themselves from the ballot.

Can’t be sure these Rubio voters will now be motivated to get out and vote for anyone.
