Gosh, how could there be 200,000 alcoholics in a country where alcohol is banned?

I guess they all must be drunk on love.

Or something…

Via Times of Israel:

Police in Tehran arrested 2,900 drunk drivers last year, a top official said Tuesday, describing the figures, which come despite the Islamic republic’s official prohibition of alcohol, as “alarming.”

….Alcohol has been banned in Iran since the revolution in 1979 and those who break the law can be fined, lashed or serve prison time. Only the country’s Christian minority has the right to produce wine for religious purposes.

However, demand for all types of drink fuels smuggling from neighboring Iraq and Turkey. The inflated prices charged by illegal networks has also spurred cheaper locally produced beer, wine and spirits.

According to official figures, there are 200,000 alcoholics in Iran among the 79 million population. Some experts believe that more than one million Iranians regularly consume alcohol….

Saudi Arabia built a causeway from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain so the Saudis can drive over to Bahrain to party on Thursday through Saturday. Apparently Allah can’t see what they’re doing while in Bahrain. Alcohol is banned in the KSA as well. The Saudi women ride over with their husbands and go straight to a car rental place and rent cars to drive all over the Island nation.

Lol. When my brother was stationed in Bahrain he noticed the same thing. Allah could not see them drinking through the bushes and trees 🙂
