bloomberg

But wasn’t he trying to create ‘safe spaces’ for us hopeless little people when he was trying to ban the Big Gulp? Bloomberg is, after all, the poster child for the Nanny State. Government interference sends a constant message that we need to be protected from ourselves. Of course this contributes to the conditioning of students who then also believe they need to be protected from the world in general.

The one time possible Presidential contender gave a commencement address this weekend to the University of Michigan and was faced with boos and jeers from the audience at the frail suggestion that so-called college “safe spaces” are a bad idea. In his address, Bloomberg blasted the PC culture on many campuses, telling the crowd, “Keeping an open mind to new ideas is essential to your professional success — just as it’s crucial to our collective future as a democratic society.” […]

While some in the Ann Arbor crowd supported the former Mayor’s assertions, many can be heard booing loudly at the suggestions for broad-mindedness and receptivity to contrary ideas. Bloomberg said at one point, “We are witnessing a disturbing change in the nature of American politics: a rise in extreme partisanship and intolerance for other views.”

I suppose we should give credit to him for broaching this to the college crowd directly. But this intolerance is not exactly a “rise,” it’s been a problem on the left for generations. Perhaps I should send my 2001 book, “The New Thought Police” to the Mr. Bloomberg.

What’s the difference between a safe space and a gun free zone? Isn’t safe space a natural outgrowth?

The irony is that a restroom used to be a “safe space”, and these same paranoid lunatics who take offense at everything and find “microaggressions” everywhere to justify their own “safe spaces” then demand that the traditional safe space of ordinary people be violated.
