The really scary part of this story is that the professor is an M.D. and teaches pediatric medicine in medical school.

I would have been less concerned if she had been a professor of Third World Underwater Basket Weaving.

Or something.

A University of Iowa professor is asking the athletics department to make the university’s mascot, Herky the Hawk, display friendlier facial expressions, arguing that his angry grimace is traumatizing students.

“I believe incoming students should be met with welcoming, nurturing, calm, accepting and happy messages, ”Resmiye Oral, a clinical professor of pediatrics, wrote Tuesday in an email to athletic department officials, obtained by the Iowa City Press-Citizen….

“As we strive to tackle depression, suicide, violence, and behavioral challenges and help our students succeed, I plead with you to allow Herky to be like one of us, sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes angry, sometimes concentrated,” Ms. Oral wrote….

Speaking of college football, the season opens this week and the BIG game is Saturday night 8pm EDT, USC vs Alabama. AKA, Tammy Bruce vs Laura Ingraham. Fight On vs Roll Tide. USC is ranked
20th and Alabama is ranked 1st. Teams last played in 1985. This time it’s personal. I will be watching.

If this woman is seriously concerned about images that traumatize young people, she’d stop whining about stupid birds and just put a big bag over her head. Oh, and while she’s at it, change her name; calling her “Ms. Oral” brings some pretty nasty images to mind. (Admit it!) Just saying.

Dare I mention that “Resmiye Oral” (yes, that is her name) is an anagram for “Oily Reamers”? You can’t make this stuff up.

    Let’s rewrite Resmiye’s statement:

“As I strive to tackle depression, suicide, violence, and behavioral challenges and help me succeed, I plead with you to allow Herky to be like me: sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes angry, sometimes concentrated.”

Second, I would not trust any ‘health care professional’ that wears that necklace or whatever it is…to me it looks like an array of boogers hand made at a Wiccan shop. Finally I’m truly surprised she didn’t spray paint her hair in rainbow colors.

Dennis, don’t you know the difference between an array of Wiccan boogers and a merkin?

(Sorry, I cannot help myself. Shifra is definitely going to haul me down to the nearest KFC and deep-fry me.)

Grimm’s Fairy Tales are over 200 yrs old, college students grew up with Angry Birds, Harry Potter, Twilight vampires, Hunger Games, Scream movies, along with assorted Friday the 13th movies, etc. I think they can handle Hercules Hawk.
