While it’s imperfect, this only happened because Trump wanted it to. Paul Ryan resisted but in the end, they had to pass something recognizing that we were done putting up with their nonsense. They can take whatever victory lap they want, and in his remarks in the Rose Garden the president was much too generous toward House members and Ryan in particular, but the only reason this happened is because of you and Trump.

This is only a first step, it is obviously incomplete despite the rhetoric that this was a repeal, but it’s a good start.

The Republican-sponsored American Health Care Act (AHCA) passed the House 217-213 Thursday, with one vote to spare, although it will face an uncertain path in the Senate.

No Democrats voted for the bill, and 20 Republicans voted against it. The bill largely repeals and replaces Obamacare.

Speaking to reporters after the vote, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, said he knew they had the votes on Wednesday and he said if they hadn’t passed it, it would have impeded “the rest of our agenda.”

“We proved that we could accomplish something this big,” he said. “I can’t thank the president enough. President Trump and Vice President Pence have been directly engaged,” adding that Pence called him twice on Thursday to check in about individual members…

House Republicans left the Capitol after the vote, headed to the White House on buses. Scalise said they were invited to the Oval Office or the Rose Garden.

As soon as Republicans cleared the threshold to pass the bill, House Democrats began singing in unison, “Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey, goodbye” toward the Republicans.

Rep. Chris Collins, R-New York, said he’s not worried about Republicans’ prospects for the 2018 midterm elections.

“If we weren’t able to repeal and replace Obamacare, it would have been a bad midterm for us. I think we will hold our own, if not pick up seats,” he told reporters.

Good step. Still ways to go.

Free Beacon reports that some on Twitter including several Blue Checks tweeted that Republicans not Democrats sang Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye celebrating the loss of health ins. I think this won’t have legs due to rest of media reporting that it was Democrats but I wonder if the song was planned by Dems exactly for this purpose, to rile their base with fake news. On similar note, Trump planned Rose Garden ceremony. Did Ryan have anything planned other than preening before some cameras? Does Mumbles McConnell?

And Free Beacon reports that Dems & ‘Reporters’ tweeted that Repubs were holding a beer party to celebrate. Not true. Based solely on seeing beer carted into the Capital. No checking as to who ordered, for what. Somehow I don’t see liberals desired crack down on fake news including these type of ‘reports’.

Ok, it’s not perfect or a true repeal and replace but it is a start. As a conservative there is much I don’t like and much that I do. But this cake is not fully baked yet, so I have a wait and see mentality about the final result.

I couldn’t disagree more. This did not repeal as promised and this will only entrench Obamacare even more only now it will be Trumpcare. I predict Nancy as speaker in 2018. I pray I’m wrong, but this is same pos Ryan bill and senate will only make this worse. Establishment is still the one “winning.” I for one am tired of all this winning!

If a recent story that the Senate will not vote on the House bill but will instead write its own is true, I will be seriously discouraged. I’m hoping this is in reference to “reconciling” the bills and that the story was just poorly written/communicated. If not, it’s time for President Trump to call these clowns out publically. I think it’s important for his credibility and important for his supporters.

How do we know this is not a resumption toward single payer?
