House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., returned to Capitol Hill Thursday, to great fanfare, receiving a roaring ovation as he made his way across the House Floor with the assistance of forearm crutches.
‘Our prayers have been answered,’ gushed House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who had been ‘brought to tears’ upon first seeing Scalise, the body’s No. 3 Republican, back at work.
Scalise has been out since June, recovering from a gunshot wound to the hip that he received at Congressional Baseball Game practice.
‘You have no idea how great this feels to be back here at work in the people’s House,’ Scalise told the crowd. ‘I am definitely a living example that miracles really do happen,’ he said.
The Louisiana lawmaker quickly got to God and the power of prayer.
‘When I was laying out on that ball field, the first thing I did once I was down and couldn’t move anymore is I just started praying,’ Scalise said, saying it gave him an incredible sense of calm.
‘He really did deliver for me and my family and it just gives you that renewed faith and understanding that the power of prayer is something you cannot underestimate,’ he said.
He went on to thank the ‘true angels,’ the two Capitol Police officers who were assigned to his detail as a member of House leadership, who were wounded themselves, but managed to take down shooter James Hodgkinson, saving countles lives that day.
God Bless him, his family, and all the doctors and nurses that saved his life!
I love his speech, and it’s why the media just wants it to go away. His comments remind people about how good the govt can be, and the decency of people. His return also reminds people that the attempted mass assassination really happened. It’s only been 15 weeks and yet I bet there are people out there who don’t even know it happened.
