Hillary Clinton agreed Wednesday that being a capitalist likely damaged her 2016 campaign because nearly half of Democrats say they are socialists.
“Probably,” Clinton said at the Shared Values Leadership Summit in New York City, after being asked whether support for capitalism hurt her at the polls.
“It’s hard to know, but if you’re in the Iowa caucuses and 41 percent of Democrats are socialists, or self-described socialists, and I’m asked, ‘Are you a capitalist?’ And I say, ‘Yes, but with appropriate regulation and appropriate accountability,’ you know, that probably gets lost in the ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a capitalist.'”….
The former candidate attended a gathering of nearly a dozen progressive groups supported by Onward Together, the post-election political organization she founded that’s aimed at “advancing the progressive vision that earned nearly 66 million votes in the last election.”
“I don’t want to see us go backwards,” Clinton said. “But organized interests fueled by ideology and huge amounts of money are trying to take us backwards. So I feel as strongly today as I ever have that we all have to stand up and defend our country, and most importantly, our democracy.”
Presumably she’s referring to not getting the Left out to vote, not people voted for the socialist Trump. You can see that there were some Democrat voters that did not show up. Wisconsin had lowest turnout in 20 years. Pennsylvania had a larger turnout overall but Democrat counties had lower turnouts.
Obama ran in 2008 as a Capitalist, debt too large, and in 2012 as a Concerned Capitalist, Bain BAD. Bernie’s unexpected attraction of socialism was, in part, because Obama was viewed as a Capitalist and media said that he didn’t go socialist. Should have been bigger shovel ready jobs program, single payer, etc. Given this, one can see Hillary reaching the conclusion that she was 8 years late as Tammy has said. Yes, But she didn’t adjust! She was cautious and stuck with the old play book. She lets herself off the hook instead of saying, I knew the score and should have adjusted, Campaign differently. The media have a fair amount of responsibility here. They kept polling 90% chance of Hillary. Why change strategy when you’re so far in the lead? But of course, she wasn’t. And she believed what everyone told her and what she wanted to hear. Next excuse will be, she lost because she’s a Constitutionalist fighting for American Democracy. She will never hear anything contrary.
