Mark Sanford?

You mean the guy who once, as a governor, sneaked away from his security detail and family, telling them he wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail, while secretly flying to Argentina to meet with his “soulmate”?

Yeah, that guy.

Via The Hill.

Former South Carolina governor and congressman Mark Sanford is considering running against President Trump in 2020 as a Republican, The Post and Courier reports.

Sanford told the paper in an interview published Tuesday that he will use the next month to consider a potential primary challenge against Trump.

“Sometimes in life you’ve got to say what you’ve got to say, whether there’s an audience or not for that message,” Sanford, who has been a critic of the president, told the paper. “I feel convicted.”

The possible presidential run comes just over a year after Sanford lost a House primary in a contentious reelection bid that was seen as a referendum on his criticism of Trump….

As a South Carolinian, I can tell you that Sanford may become the first-ever candidate for president to get zero primary votes in his home state. He’s just that poplular here.

As for feeling “convicted,” he should have been convicted of dereliction of duty to the state while governor and secretly undertaking travel to Argentina to solve his mid-life crisis. The way it all turned out (divorced and broke, and now without his South American sweetheart), he should have bought a muscle car instead.
