Meet AZ Congressional Candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer-Ready to Serve America!
by Artgal on January 30, 2012Gabby Saucedo Mercer is running against Progressive Democrat Raul Grijalva (CD-7). As you may recall, Grijalva was met with quite a challenge in 2010 when rocket scientist Ruth McClung ran against him. In 2012, with your help, Grijalva will have the opportunity to join the long line of The Unemployed – a place he has helped send many from his troubled district and throughout this state when he advocated for a boycott of Arizona. I urge you to visit Gabby Mercer Saucedo’s campaign site for more information regarding her positions on issues and how you can support her campaign for congress. Remember – her district covers the entire Arizona/Mexico border from Nogales to the California border. A win by Gabriela Saucedo...

Gabrielle Giffords Announces Resignation from Congress
by Artgal on January 23, 2012Many have wondered whether Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will continue in congress and seek another term. Yesterday, a video was released ending all speculation: Giffords to Resign From Congress After State of the Union This Week Whatever differences I have held with Rep. Giffords performance in congress prior to the horror of January 8, 2011, I am mindful of the fact that vagaries in life change us. Not everything is political; in fact, ‘politics’ does not matter at the end of the day. What does matter is that Rep. Giffords has beaten the odds: she not only has survived – she has surpassed! I am impressed with Giffords’ recovery – a miracle that only God could provide. She is a living testimony,...

Remembering Tucson: Marking the One Year Anniversary of the Massacre
by Artgal on January 7, 2012May They Rest In Peace: Christina Green, Dorothy Morris, Judge John Roll, Phyllis Schneck, Dorwan Stoddard, Gabe Zimmerman January 8, 2012 will mark the one year anniversary of the Tucson shootings which left six people dead, thirteen injured and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life. For all Tucsonans, the date will be a time of reflection and acknowledgement with many memorial ceremonies taking place throughout the city. Giffords, other Tucson victims prepare for shooting anniversary It is hard to believe the one year anniversary is upon us. What stands out is the way Tucsonans came together in a dark hour. Many formed prayer circles, some of which lasted the entire weekend, when the news broke. We stood together when maligned by national as well as foreign...

What You Can Do To Help Arizona’s Wildfire Victims
by Artgal on June 17, 2011On Sunday, a new wildfire began in Arizona’s Coronado National Monument located in the Huachuca Mountains near the Mexican border. The fire has quickly spread causing evacuations in the town of Hereford and several surrounding areas. The Monument Fire comes as the state is also dealing with the Wallow Fire, which became the largest wildfire in Arizona history as of Tuesday, and the Horseshoe Two Fire which began on May 8. In response to the fires and the needs for those being evacuated, the American Red Cross is setting up shelter and taking online donations to assist residents: Southern Arizona Chapter of The American Red Cross Arizona Tea Party has also posted monetary and material donation information (including to Wells Fargo): How You Can Help Monument...

The ‘Ethnic Studies’ Curriculum Disaster in Arizona
by Artgal on June 10, 2011The wildfires raging in Arizona aren’t the only catastrophe the state is facing. When Americans are drawn together to simply do the right thing, we accomplish the extraordinary for the good of the nation’s survival. Nothing could demonstrate this better than the hard work of many over the last four years to expose the disturbing curriculum and activities surrounding Ethnic Studies in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD). For those unfamiliar with the subject, Ethnic Studies is offered as a course throughout many schools in the country. It encourages students to identify as a hyphenated-American (Mexican-American, African-American, Asian-American, etc.) instead of simply being an American. Though not all Ethnic Studies programs entertain anti-U.S. sentiment and overthrow, the potential for such activity to...

AZ Citizens Speak Out Against Obama’s Immigration Remarks
by Artgal on May 18, 2011*For those wishing to contribute to Arizona’s new border fence project, please go to www.keepazsafe.com. On May 8, a fire broke out in Arizona’s Chiricahua Mountains which are located about 130 miles southeast of Tucson. The range is about 50 miles north of the U.S. – Mexico border and surrounded by ranches. It is a quiet, beautiful area featuring campgrounds, country stores, breathtaking scenery complete with a bird watcher’s paradise and hiking trails into mountains that peak around 10,000 feet. For such a seemingly peaceful, vast area, it is also plagued by human and drug trafficking, and it appears the latest fire has been started by those entering this country illegally. A wildfire was started by illegals in the same mountain range this time last year. A little ironic…dontcha think?...

A Restless, Rainy Night
by Artgal on May 15, 2011As much as I am interested in politics, various issues and world events, my first love is truly in The Arts. Art keeps me sane. Whenever I work on a project, nothing else exists in those moments. It is a nice resort from the daily assault occurring by this administration and all the weirdness in the world. Lately, I have been focusing a great deal on painting and drawing. Most of my drawings are in pastels, graphite or charcoal, and my paintings are largely done in acrylic or oils. There are other areas of the artworld where I create, too, but drawing and painting have taken priority for now. It has become a nice way to escape for a little while. So last weekend when...

Game On! Arizona Taking SB1070 to High Court
by Artgal on May 10, 2011Gov. Brewer on Greta 5/9/2011 On Sunday, Gov. Brewer noted on Facebook that she had an important announcement regarding SB1070 to release the following day. Once again, Gov. Brewer has made Arizona proud! Though Gov. Brewer made some good, surprising, confusing and disappointing decisions in the last legislative session, in no way should support for her be abandoned. I do not see her as a RINO; I see her as thoughtful and open to hearing what the state house does with the bills in the next session. Besides, some of her glowing achievements this session were installing a state militia and making it possible to build our own dang fence. So thank you, Gov. Brewer, for taking the fight directly to the Supreme Court. As...

Feds To Give AZ & SD Union Thug Treatment
by Artgal on April 30, 2011Last Tuesday, Gov. Brewer released the following statement on her Facebook page:: “It looks like the feds are planning to sue Arizona again. The Arizona Constitution requires a secret ballot for employee representation. Unfortunately, the feds don’t agree and plan to sue. I believe the right to cast your vote without fear or intimidation is a fundamental tenant of our democracy. Arizonans should continue to have a constitutional right to a secret ballot for employees.” Though it was confirmed in local media the feds would indeed sue, I see this morning the news has gone national. The lawsuit is not reserved for Arizona only; no, South Dakota gets to share the limelight with us. Altogether, there were four states originally listed...

Remembering Good Friday
by Artgal on April 22, 2011“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16 As believers all around the world gather to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus this Good Friday, may we be humbled in the knowledge that a perfect, sinless man, who was God in the flesh, bore the ultimate price for us all – and He did it all out of love for us. His death was not mere symbolism; it was as real as the brutal beatings with whips – whips with metal razor-like edges hanging from the ends that bore into his flesh, a common punishment preceding crucifixion under Roman law. His beating was so severe...

You Met SB1070 Last Year; Now, Meet SB1593
by Artgal on April 19, 2011It was this time last year when Arizonans and many throughout the country waited to see what Gov. Jan Brewer would do regarding SB1070. We received that answer on April 23, 2010. By April 21, 2011, we will see if Arizona will once again lead the nation in establishing true freedom of choice in health insurance by inviting business across state lines. SB1593 would open up a free market solution in health insurance options with other states as pointed out by Tom Jenney from Americans For Prosperity in the following post: http://www.americansforprosperity.org/041511-tell-gov-brewer-let-my-people-go-urgent (I urge you all to pass his information and pdf file along). Some concern has also been raised about the bill even among those who supported it. AZ State Rep. Terri Proud introduced...

What’s Brewing With Brewer?
by Artgal on April 19, 2011This evening, Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed two major bills: the campus carry bill and the birther bill. From what I am seeing on various social media sites, Gov. Brewer has many very unhappy supporters this evening. Some have even resorted to calling her a ‘traitor’ on her personal Facebook page which I do not find at all fair. I at least want to hear her reasoning. Though I am disappointed with the outcome of the campus carry bill (and I mean that also in the sense of how it was watered down in the state senate), I am also mindful that Gov. Brewer has been a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and has greatly expanded the state’s gun laws since taking office in...

Immigration Bills: How Far is Too Far?
by Artgal on April 11, 2011On St. Patrick’s day, five senate bills regarding immigration went to the floor of the Arizona state house for a vote and failed. With almost lightning speed, Facebook and other social media outlets lit up with the Arizona Delegation (the citizen activists here) responding to the news – quite angrily, I might add. Most of us were puzzled, livid and even embarrassed. My first response was in wondering if so much pressure was coming down from the federal government that we finally ‘found our level’ in the state house. I wrote to my representative in the Arizona State Senate, Frank Antenori, after I called his office asking for clarification. Ultimately, Antenori voted in favor of three bills and voted down two. ...
