International Yarn Bombing Day June 11
by Pat_S on June 7, 2011Depending on your point of view it is either another form of art or another form of vandalism. It has the world in stitches. Instead of chalk or paint, public objects—fences, statues, mail boxes, etc.—are covered with yarn. The fiber artists as they are called even improve on nature with tree cozies. It isn’t just for hippie grandmas. June 11 is the First International Yarn Bombing Day. Yarn bombing: Graffiti’s cozy, feminine side The bronze statue of Rocky near the Philadelphia Museum of Art irked Jessie Hemmons. She found the statue too big, too macho and too touristy, so last month Hemmons, a 24-year-old artist, bombed him. With pinkish yarn. “Street art and graffiti are usually so male dominated,” Hemmons...

A Restless, Rainy Night
by Artgal on May 15, 2011As much as I am interested in politics, various issues and world events, my first love is truly in The Arts. Art keeps me sane. Whenever I work on a project, nothing else exists in those moments. It is a nice resort from the daily assault occurring by this administration and all the weirdness in the world. Lately, I have been focusing a great deal on painting and drawing. Most of my drawings are in pastels, graphite or charcoal, and my paintings are largely done in acrylic or oils. There are other areas of the artworld where I create, too, but drawing and painting have taken priority for now. It has become a nice way to escape for a little while. So last weekend when...

A Cartoon Worth a Thousand Words And Then Some
by Tammy on May 5, 2011Last year one Obama advisor described the White House environment as a “Theatre of the Absurd.” Thanks to the extraordinary talent and genius of IBD’s Michael Ramirez, I think this sums up pretty much everything.

As Time Goes By
by Tammy on October 2, 2010Charlotte Rampling and Woody Allen in a scene from Allen’s film “Stardust Memories” from 1980. 30 years later, Rampling and Allen at the Paris Film Festival, July 2010 Maybe it’s because my own birthday came and went in August. Or because when I saw the Paris pic of Rampling and Allen from July I immediately thought of “Stardust Memories” which is one of his better films, and in which Rampling gives an astounding performance and was, perhaps, at her most beautiful. But the juxtaposition of the two pics, and the fact that 30 years have passed between the two, struck me. In the blink of an eye, there we were, and here we are. All concerned in the moment, and...

A Little Gift for Liberals
by Tammy on October 1, 2010Just so you won’t feel so alone until 11/3. Know this–Tammy Blog cares about you liberals and zombies. Crying releases endorphins and will help you to understand why evil is getting punched in the face everyday. And why Obama is a Dumb Bastard, and why you got punked by a bunch of navel-gazing partiers, laughing all the way to the bank (and Spain and Martha’s Vineyard) with your hard earned money, as you can’t find a job, getting exhausted, losing all hope for the hopey-changey thing as you shop for the franks and beans you need for dinner tonight. But remember, freeing the slaves took a long time, too, you Donkey Zombies. Longer than it takes to cook up more...

The Obama Cone=November 2010
by Tammy on September 6, 2010Obama says critics ‘talk about me like a dog’. That’s weird, because the only person talking about Obama (in fact all black Americans) like a dog is, er, Obama. Specifically, Obama shockingly called all black people “mongrels,” a term typically used in reference to dogs, not to people. Most of America also found it rather odd when the First Family named their dog “Bo,” the initials of Barack Obama. So, in keeping with the president’s apparent canine point-of-view, here’s a picture illustrating what’s going to happen on November 2, 2010. And finally, thank you Mr. President, for teaching us how to speak Doglish. CAPTION THIS! (Courtesy of TAM RuBegonia 🙂

IOTW Caption Contest: I Report, I Judge
by Tammy on April 27, 2010Yes, I know we really like the fairness of the “We Report, You Decide” motto of a certain news organization, but over here’s it’s usually “I Report, I Decide,” or in this case, Judge. Yes, that’s right. The Clever Troublemakers over at IOwnTheWorld asked me to judge one of their caption contests. And I, being the Benevolent Blogger that I am, said Yes. Especially once they told me they’d send the IOTW traffic over here for the result. IOwnTheWorld is a blog which takes a rather funny, snarky conservative look at the issues of the day, and the Caption Contest is no different. I had the pleasure of judging the “Earth Day” contest and after much soul-searching I made my...
