J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ Writing Chair Sells for Nearly $400,000 at Auction
by Tammy on April 7, 2016Wow. Just wow. Via People Magazine. The chair that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling sat in while writing the first two books of the wizardry series was sold at a New York City auction on Wednesday for $394,000, the Associated Press reports. Rowling, 50, used the chair – which is reportedly one of four mismatched seats that were given to the writer – as she wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. According to the AP, an anonymous buyer made the bid, which far surpassed the seller, Gerald Gray’s, expectations. On the chair are etched in words from Rowling herself, who wrote “Gryffindor,” “I wrote Harry Potter in this chair,” and signed...

‘Astonishing’ Shakespeare First Edition Found In Scottish Castle
by Tammy on April 7, 2016I love this story. Via Deutsche Welle. A rare First Folio has been discovered in Scotland, the University of Oxford announced on Thursday. A First Folio is a scarce collection of 36 of William Shakespeare’s plays published in 1623. It is not only in essence a “first edition,” of the Bard’s work but also the only reliable source for twenty of his most famous pieces, such as Macbeth and Julius Caesar. The tome was uncovered at Mount Stuart, a large manor house on the Isle of Bute off the western coast of Scotland. The find makes a total of 234 known copies of the First Folio in the world, with nearly all the others are held by libraries and available...

Elementary School Teaches Children: If You See A Shooter, Throw A Book At Him
by Shifra on September 18, 2015Anti-gun insanity hits a new low. And no, this is not from the satirical review The Onion. Via Breitbart: A father is outraged after learning that an “active shooter protocol” at his children’s school, Stevenson Elementary in Heath, Ohio, includes encouraging his eight-year-old son to throw books at the gunman. According to Fox 28, Dean Spencer says his nine-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son “were told by school teachers to throw books at anyone with a gun should they ever make their way into their library or classroom.” Spencer said he did not believe the story at first, but after listening to details from his daughter for a second time, he was simply shocked. He said, “To give them advice or...

Chelsea Clinton Writes Children’s Book About Epidemics and ‘Climate Change’
by Shifra on May 22, 2015Yes, a children’s book about poverty, gender equality, epidemics, climate change, and endangered species. Because isn’t that a great way to put the kiddies to sleep at night – by reading about Ebola and tsunamis? And really, you have to be impressed with Chelsea’s generosity: Proceeds of the book will go to charity, including…yes, the Clinton Foundation. Via Daily Caller: Chelsea Clinton Is Writing The Saddest Children’s Book Ever Chelsea Clinton is about to become the author of what could be the saddest children’s book ever. Penguin Random House announced Wednesday it will publish the 35-year-old’s first book, and the publishing company said that “It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!” wants to inspire children “to change...

by Tammy on September 6, 2014I had the pleasure of speaking with Washington Times reporter Cheryl Chumley back in June about her new book, “Police State.” It was the Ferguson situation which alerted most Americans to the problem of outiftting local police departments with military equipment, but Cheryl was on it well before and we discuss the details of this problematic development. Public Podcast: Glenn Reynolds, aka Instapundit, On His Book, “The New School”
by Tammy on January 29, 2014I had a great conversation with Glenn Reynolds about his new book, “The New School: How the Information Age Will Save American Education from Itself.” Here’s the book description, and I hope you enjoy the podcast! Economist Herb Stein famously said that something that can’t go on forever, won’t. For decades now, America has been investing ever-growing fortunes into its K-12 education system in exchange for steadily worse results. Public schools haven’t changed much from the late 19th century industrial model and as a result young Americans are left increasingly unprepared for a competitive global economy. At the same time, Americans are spending more than they can afford on higher education, driven by the kind of cheap credit that fueled...

Bombshell: Obama Canceled Bin Laden ‘Kill’ Raid Three Times at Jarrett’s Urging
by Tammy on July 30, 2012At the time of the raid I noted my surprise that Obama had actually gone for it. After all, I mused, if he could have stopped the raid, he would have. Little did I know how right I was. In his new book, Richard Miniter is now reporting that Obama did cancel the raid–three times, and then dilly-dallied for 16 hours before finally giving a ‘yes’ for the fourth time. Do you know how lucky we are that our plans were not leaked and the maniac was still in the Pakistan compound when Obama got around to saying yes? From January (the first request) to May (when we finally struck) is an awful long time. I would speculate that Obama...

Click here to buy The Amateur The New York Times hates this book, that alone should tell you how fabulous it is! From Ed Klein’s site: In this stunning exposé, bestselling author Edward Klein—a contributing editor to Vanity Fair, former foreign editor of Newsweek, and former editor-in-chief of the New York Times Magazine—pulls back the curtain on one of the most secretive White Houses in history. He reveals a callow, thin-skinned, arrogant president with messianic dreams of grandeur supported by a cast of true-believers, all of them united by leftist politics and an amateurish understanding of...
