Sarah Palin Threatens to Sue ‘Rogue’ Book Publisher
by Tammy on September 26, 2011Good for her. This McGinnis piece of trash and all the other attacks on the Palins, of course, are all about 2012. I like that she’s standing up for herself, and in doing so is working to change this increasingly putrid political environment. Enough is enough. Sarah Palin’s family attorney John Tiemessen has written a letter to Maya Mavjee, the publisher of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House, that Palin may sue her, the company, and the book’s author Joe McGinniss “for knowingly publishing false statements” in his book released last week, “The Rogue,” ABC News has learned. The book was widely panned by critics for using unnamed sources to criticize Palin and her family. Tiemessen cites...

“Confidence Men” Author Suskind Says Obama Not in Charge
by Tammy on September 21, 2011The full segment from Morning Joe featuring author Ron Suskind, the author of new book “Confidence Men,” which is exposes a completely dysfunctional and chaotic White House. He notes, “The president got slow-walked, he got gamed by his advisers.” It’s fascinating to watch how people finally get that this guy is a disaster but they still won’t give him responsibility for it. Just another example of how fragile the human mind is, and how the truth can be ignored for far too long. When the left and Obama sycophants everywhere acknowledge that Obama is a Malignant Narcissist at the very least, and possibly a sociopath, then we’ll know they’re out of their coma.

Book Note: “Earth Abides”
by Maynard on February 22, 2011A post by Maynard There’s a select genre of end-of-the-world novels, and I wanted to put in a word for what may be the best of them. That would be George R. Stewart’s Earth Abides, which is the tale of a survivor. This is a hauntingly beautiful book, and completely detached from today’s frantic reality. The Earth is decimated by a sudden plague (I’m not giving anything away here; this scenario becomes clear in the opening pages), and one man is mysteriously spared. What he finds and what he does — well, let me just say that reading these pages is like living through the experience, and feeling every pang of triumph and tragedy that a human being can encounter....

Atlas Shrugged, the Movie?
by Maynard on February 12, 2011A post by Maynard Ayn Rand is one of those lightning rod names. Speak it aloud and you’ll get a strong reaction, one way or another. But do people really know Rand, or do they just express what they’re supposed to feel? Personally I’m an advocate, but I’ll stop short of being an acolyte. Rand was a genius, and she said what needed to be said; things that others had neither the courage nor the articulation to express. If you haven’t been exposed to Rand, you’re missing a fundamental piece of the puzzle. However, she had her blind spots. To rely too heavily on Rand’s philosophy to the complete exclusion of others seems to me unrealistic. To understand Rand more...

Maynard’s (Non-Political) Book Note: “The Egyptian”
by Maynard on February 3, 2011A post by Maynard If you’ve got an eye for a good book, take a peek at Mika Waltari’s novel, The Egyptian. This was first published in Finland in 1949, and went on to take the world by storm. It became a best-seller, and has remained in print ever since. From the Amazon page: The Egyptian outsold every other novel published in 1949, and remains a classic; readers worldwide have testified to its life-changing power. It is a full-bodied re-creation of a largely forgotten era in the world’s history: the Egypt of the 14th century B.C.E., when pharaohs and gods contended with the near-collapse of history’s greatest empire. This epic tale encompasses the whole of the then-known world, from Babylon...

Author Note: Barbara Holland
by Maynard on November 28, 2010An author that caught Maynard’s eye… Be warned that there’s nothing political here. Or, to the extent that anything political happens, you’ll likely find it to be disagreeable, regardless of your orientation. Ms. Holland is clearly a crank who was too smart for her own good, and with antisocial tendencies to boot. So she retreated to the family Unabomber-class shack in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and wrote books. I was saddened to find that she died two months ago, aged 77. How did Barbara Holland come on my radar? Ah, I remember. I was perusing the eBay listings of used books (one of my most serious vices, in that I can find no excuse to give it up), and a...

Shadows of Scheherazade
by Maynard on August 23, 2010A multicultural post by Maynard The legendary collection of fables from the ancient Muslim world, 1001 Arabian Nights, dates back over a thousand years. It includes such classic stories as Aladdin, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. The popular English version was translated in the 1880’s by the famous English explorer Richard Francis Burton. This text is available at Amazon and also online. Some of the text that follows is not appropriate for prime time viewing. Please continue only if you will not be troubled by “mature” discussions.

Author Ray Bradbury: “I Think Our Country Is In Need of a Revolution”
by Tammy on August 17, 2010Ray Bradbury is the author whose work helped shape me through what would have otherwise been a rather hopeless childhood. At first you receive his work as a pleasure, an escape, and yet eventually you realize the imperative messages in all his stories about personal responsibility, the importance of imagination, freedom and individualism, while reinforcing in each scenario issues of judgment, truth, fairness, and the generosity and power of the human spirit. He has been, ever since I can remember being able to pick up a book, my hero, and a man whose values, through his work, shaped my own. Many of you had parents who did that for you. I did not. Without his knowing it, Mr. Bradbury became...

Books That Might Teach Obama A Thing Or Two
by Tammy on July 19, 2010And may even answer that “mystery” about ‘where the jobs are.’ And while Obama, of course, wouldn’t be interested in finding out what his problems are, it’s a good idea for all of to become as informed as possible on what drives liberals and “progressives” and why their plans offer nothing but disaster. How To Be Healthy, Happy, and Have Any Woman You Want
by Maynard on May 9, 2010An eclectic post by Maynard This is Maynard writing, who is of the opinion that we ought not focus entirely on the antics of our un-esteemed political leaders. Sure, those jackasses are busily arguing amongst themselves whether they prefer to bankrupt us before they get us blown up, or the other way around. But until they succeed in their lunatic plans, we must survive and prosper. Hence this post of useful information.
