Economist: 66 Countries Could End Poverty By Giving Citizens Free Money

Foreign aid has its place in the quest to eradicate global poverty, but one economist believes free cash can go pretty far, too. John McArthur, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, wrote in a recent blog post that 66 countries in the developing world could theoretically afford to end poverty tomorrow, just by awarding citizens direct cash transfers…. $43M In Cash Found in Empty Nigerian Apartment

More than US$43 million was seized from an apartment building in Nigeria after the anti-corruption unit received a tip. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission received a tip from a whistleblower who reported suspicious activity when they noticed someone moving bags in and out of the apartment, according to a Facebook post. Another source claimed that a “haggard” looking woman in “dirty clothes” sometimes appeared at the apartment building with multiple bags. President Obama hired hundreds of additional public relations employees to sell his administration’s policies, at a total cost to taxpayers of nearly half a billion dollars a year, the government’s chief watchdog reported Wednesday. Mr. Obama added some 667 PR staffers between 2008, the last full year under his predecessor, and 2011, when staffing levels peaked at 5,238 — a spike of 15 percent during those years. Chase Bank Decides ATM Withdrawals Over $1000 Are Shady

The new ATM rule, fr the moment, applies to non-Chase account holders. Give it a little while and I bet it’ll apply to Chase accounts sooner than later.
