UK: OTC Painkiller Replaced By Anti-Psychotic Drugs
by Pat_S on August 26, 2011The investigation is still going on but the suspicion is deliberate tampering. The antipsychotic Seroquel XL was inside packets of Nurofen Plus which can be purchased without a prescription. Three packets have been found in south London but up to 16,000 packets could be affected. Seroquel XL is prescription only and used to treat such illnesses as schizophrenia, mania and bipolar depression. British health authorities issue warning after drugs mix-up <blockquote>A spokesman for the regulatory agency told CNN it could not rule out sabotage, but at the moment believed it was an issue to do with the packaging of drugs by wholesalers rather than a manufacturing problem. “We haven’t ruled out sabotage as of yet, but the investigation is still...

Singer Amy Winehouse Found Dead
by Tammy on July 23, 2011Details are still emerging, but singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her London home. She was 27. If you listen to Tammy Radio you know we very much admired her music and talent. Her album “Back to Black” is perhaps one of the best soul/pop recordings of the past 25 years. I lamented, on quite a few occasions, that her early death was inevitable. The combination of drugs and alcohol that ruled her life, unless addressed, would be the end of her. There has yet to be a determination as to the cause of death, but in some ways I feel addiction itself is a slow suicide. It’s a tough call because I know a lot of creative...

California Marijuana Initiative
by Maynard on October 8, 2010Maynard ponders On our California ballot is Prop. 19, the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010. In essence, it legalizes marijuana for private consumption. Should I favor or oppose this measure? I’m not a fan of marijuana, and I don’t use it. I do, however, partake in medicinal ethanol. I observe that pot makes people stupid, whereas ethanol makes me smarter. (Don’t make me prove this.) But that’s not the right way to look at it. The essential question is whether there’s a compelling state interest in banning marijuana. And let’s also ask the practical question of whether the laws against marijuana accomplish the intended effect, or whether they do more harm than good. I’m uncertain. My semi-libertarian...

Ewokie’s List Unleash Mama Ewoks on Palin!
by Tammy on August 17, 2010Calling all Mama Grizzlies! Ewokie’s List finally came out with their ‘attack’ on Sarah Palin. And let me just say, it’s a very sad day for Mama Ewoks. Or for people who dress up in bear suits. Is this what liberals did when they went to the, er, Coffee Parties that were so fabulously successful at energizing liberals to counter the Tea Party? Yeah, well, it gets hot in those Ewok suits! Ewokie’s List had a press conference today as I mocked noted yesterday. And they came out with a video featuring women dressed up as, well there’s really no other way to put it, Ewoks. They then warned all Ewoks and their cubs that Evil Sarah Palin wanted to...

McCain Wants FDA To Regulate Vitamins
by Tammy on February 26, 2010And herbs and minerals–really anything that keeps you from having to buy the synthetic Pharma drugs. McCain just can’t help himself–he is a Big Government Liberal ready to unleash more bureaucratic control over the minutia of our lives. In this instance, it will also help BigPharma keep some of those less expensive, more natural remedies from barging in on their profits. McCain should be ashamed of himself and admit that it’s time to retire. If he doesn’t, please Arizonans, show this dinosaur the door in August. Examiner: Alternative remedies at risk with McCain’s dietary supplement regulatory bill: 101 And Beware of McCain’s Freedom-Destroying Dietary Supplement Regulatory Bill Make no mistake–this is a money and power grab for Big Pharma. It’s...

Temper Tantrums: The New Mental Illness
by Tammy on February 10, 2010I suppose you do have to diagnose people, including children, with something before you you can get them hooked on whatever the Pharma company drug du jour is. Revision to the bible of psychiatry, DSM, could introduce new mental disorders Children who throw too many tantrums could be diagnosed with “temper dysregulation with dysphoria.” Teenagers who are particularly eccentric might be candidates for treatment for “psychosis risk syndrome.” Men who are just way too interested in sex face being labeled as suffering from “hypersexual disorder.” These are among dozens of proposals being unveiled Wednesday by the American Psychiatric Association in the first complete revision since 1994 of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or “DSM” — the massive...

Merck’s ‘Singulair’ May Cause Suicide
by Maynard on March 27, 2008Well, death will certainly cure your asthma. That happens, you know, when you stop breathing entirely. Amazing, isn't it, how the FDA is always too late closing the barn door, not only after the horse gets out, but kills itself?...
