Yay Humans! Celebrate ‘Human Achievement Hour’ Saturday at 830pm Your Time
by Tammy on March 23, 2013** In honor of saving the planet by recycling, I’m bumping up this post from last year and updating certain links 😉 ** Competitive Enterprise Institute: “Supporting the freedom needed for humans to innovate so that our lives on earth are longer, healthier, and more enjoyable” Sure, a combination of hippies and leftists want everyone to embrace the Stone Age with “Earth Hour” on Saturday at 830pm your local time, but we here in the normal world celebrate Human Achievement! I especially like enjoying what planet Earth has given us in the form of coal by worshipping electricity and all the products it powers. All at once. Won’t you join me in turning on everything in your house/apartment/shack all at...

UN Legally Enforceable Treaty Reducing Mercury Emissions Adopted
by Pat_S on January 20, 2013Reversing the policy of the G.W. Bush administration, the U.S. Joined 140 nations adopting the first legally binding treaty to reduce mercury emissions. A signing ceremony will be held in Japan later in the year after which it will take 50 nations to ratify. Fifty percent of mercury emissions come from volcanoes. Some anthropogenic sources are thermometers, the infamous CFL light bulb, dental fillings, facial cream, small scale gold mining, cement production and coal-burning power plants. The hat making industry long ago dispensed with mercury after learning the use of mercury-based compounds resulted in mad hatters. Some countries have already banned mercury-containing thermometers. The CFL light bulb probably won’t wind up in the dust bin of history. For one thing...

Leathernecks
by Pat_S on November 19, 2012Libs may think twice about cutting the defense budget when they hear about this. Forget about the Halls of Montezuma and, for sure, the shores of Tripoli. What better use of a few good men and women than babysitting turtles? There are about 500 “threatened” tortoises living in the Mojave Desert. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms is engaged in The Desert Tortoise Head-Start Facility project to protect the young tortoises from predators. It’s a $100,000 a year program funded by the Defense Department. Marines protecting threatened desert tortoises The slow-growing tortoises may need a year or more before they’re big enough to be released into the desert. … The tortoise is threatened by development, off-road...

Krill Is Eating Potential Algae Gasoline
by Tammy on March 8, 2012**Promoted from the TAM Wire, Posted by Alain41** The horror! Nature, krill, is eating a large algae bloom in Antarctic waters. Enormous algal bloom floats near Antarctica An unprecedented algal bloom is making a splash in the Southern Ocean. Unlike in some other aquatic areas, the bloom there could be a blessing rather than a curse. Scientists at the University...

Why Government-Mandated “Green” is “Brown”

New NY Rep Turner Orders Scrubbing of Weiner Office
by Tammy on September 16, 2011(From the wonderfully talented Christoph Niemann) Use bleach. Oh, and they found a personalized toothbrush with “Anthony” emblazoned on it. Blech. Weiner gets ‘brush’off Scrub out the stench of Weiner! Newly sworn-in Republican Rep. Bob Turner’s family ordered a thorough cleaning of the House office space he inherited from his disgraced predecessor, Anthony Weiner, after finding an old “Anthony’’ toothbrush in the bathroom. The discovery of Weiner toiletries grossed out the newcomers, who requested that the congressman’s bathroom in Office 2104 of the Rayburn building be sanitized, sources said. Weiner resigned in June amid a sexting scandal in which he tweeted crotch shots and naked photos to young women, including from an office chair. “Weiner left his toothbrush behind! It...

Guilty! France Not Doing Enough to Protect Its Hamsters
by Pat_S on June 11, 2011Another case of absurd environmentalism. “Harmful crops” and “unchecked urbanization” are bad for the feral hamsters of Alsace. This is the recent judgment of the European Court of Justice on a case brought by the European Commission three years ago. France will face daily fines if it doesn’t adjust its agriculture to accommodate the creature—considered a farmland pest–all 800 of them. Court Rules France Not Doing Enough to Protect Its Hamsters Much like mice, they live a very fragile existence, always on the lookout for predators. Now, that predator has come in the form of the French, who are driving them toward extinction. Ruling on a case brought by the European Commission three years ago, the European Court of Justice...

Maynard’s Guide to Global Warming
by Maynard on January 1, 2011A post by Maynard Discussion about global warming has degenerated into a (ahem!) heated exchange of dogma. We’re getting blasted with junk science and fragmentary truths. As a public service, I’ll try to lay out the basic situation. Be warned that what you’ll see here deviates from the “conservative” party line. But, if it makes you feel any better, “liberals” will likewise find these comments disagreeable. I’m just setting down the data as I understand it, and let the chips fall where they may. Continue reading if you dare. If you don’t like what you see, you may say I’m wrong and stupid, but please don’t call me a liberal. The difference may be nuanced, but it matters to me.

Save the Earth With Toxic Reusable Shopping Bags
by Pat_S on November 13, 2010A post by Pat I wonder if the Greens see this as a save-the-Earth bonus. Not only are those reusable shopping bags cutting down on trash, they could be killing consumers. Toxic levels of lead have been measured in reusable grocery bags. This should come as no surprise since the bags are manufactured in China. Study shows reusable bags contain high levels of lead content. According to a study released by TEI Analytical, half of reusable shopping bags made with Non-Woven Poly Propylene (NWPP) contain an unhealthy amount of lead. Many of the bags that are supposed to save the planet contain more than 100 parts per million (PPM) of toxic heavy metals — violating state laws. The study tested...

Oil Gusher Stopped; Now Watching for Leaks
by Tammy on July 15, 2010It’s Day 86 and the new cap has, at least for now, stopped the oil from pouring into the ocean. Now they’re watching to see if any new leaks will emerge. Send your prayers to everyone on this. BP chokes off the oil leak; now begins the wait NEW ORLEANS – BP finally choked off the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday — 85 days and up to 184 million gallons after the crisis unfolded — then began a tense 48 hours of watching to see whether the capped-off well would hold or blow a new leak. To the relief of millions of people along the Gulf Coast, the big, billowing brown cloud of crude at...

The Video Obama Does Not Want You To See
by Tammy on July 14, 2010Hope and Change, Oil Catastrophe Style. How’s it workin’ out for ya now? Leaked! Videos Purported to be Flyover of Gulf Oil Spill Hits Internet Update from Breitbart, the original poster: UPDATE: We have learned that this footage is not from the Gulf oil spill. A commenter points out: “This is footage from the film Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands showing the toxic lakes called ‘tailings ponds’ that are created in the process of extracting the crude oil bitumen from the sand and clay buried underground. The film has been released on DVD in Canada and is coming to audiences in the USA and UK soon.” But, this does beg the question: Why DON’T we have aerial...

Liberals of the Sea?
by Tammy on July 14, 2010“They spend most of their time gently floating around waiting for food to pass in front of them” These sad-looking creatures, which grow up to lengths of 12 inches, live at depths of 900m. They spend most of their time gently floating around waiting for food to pass in front of them, which sounds like quite a nice life to us! Because they live so far from the sea surface they’re not often seen by humans. However, increasing levels of deep-sea fishing in Australia and Tasmania for crab and lobster mean that the sulky sea-dwellers are being dragged up with other catches in increasing numbers. These gelatinous masses may not be much to look at, but the world would be...

Obama Boss George Soros Ready To Profit From Oil Disaster
by Tammy on June 14, 2010**Welcome Hot Air and Fox Nation readers!** Perhaps this is why drilling in Alaska is off the table–it would actually keep America safe and strong and won’t make Obama Boss George Soros even richer than he is now. Interestingly, it seems the more trouble we have, the better it is for Soros. Last year, Soros noted he was “having a very good crisis” having bet against the United States and profiting from her economic downturn. Now we learn Soros is set to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Gulf oil catastrophe. With Obama’s ‘moratorium’ and the Obama Admin’s general hostility to drilling, it’s reported many oil companies have already looked into with Brazil regarding a move those shores....
