Angela Davis & Hollywood: Audacity of Hope and Celebrity Dope
by Shifra on April 15, 2013**A Post by Shifra** Usually, when deciding which articles to post on the NewsWire, I read them, assess whether the TAMS would find them interesting, and then, I move on. I mean, the news cycle changes so quickly that it seems as though we are constantly being barraged with new events/stories. But there was one article that “stayed” with me. And, not in a good way. More like a dull headache. It bothered me. A lot. From CNS News: Former Communist Party member and long-time radical left activist Angela Davis is the subject of a new documentary partly financed by Hollywood mogul Jada Pinkett Smith (wife of actor Will Smith), who praised the Lenin Peace Prize winner as a “figure...

The Senate Censors: Feinstein Ends Her Inquisition of Kathryn Bigelow and “Zero Dark Thirty”
by Shifra on March 4, 2013**A Post by Shifra** Well, now that Kathryn Bigelow has been “punished” by the Hollywood Liberals – no Oscar nominations for her or for her film Zero Dark Thirty, and only one award (shared) for “sound editing,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein has called off the Inquisition, er, the investigation into the film, one day after the Academy Awards. Via WSJ. If Hollywood ever makes a film about the “Zero Dark Thirty” affair, it may stretch the credulity of audiences with even the lowest expectations of Washington. As no one should forget, Senators Dianne Feinstein, Carl Levin and John McCain wrote letters to Sony Pictures and the CIA charging that “Zero Dark Thirty” was a “grossly inaccurate and misleading” portrayal of the...

Cuomo Announces Plans To Modify Gun Control Law To Exempt Hollywood
by Tammy on February 28, 2013Jerks. Of course, because laws are just for the Little People. Via CBS NY. Just a month after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the strictest gun control law in the country, state officials plan to make some exemptions. The law toughened restrictions on military-style rifles and high-capacity semiautomatic handguns, but those restrictions will be changed so those types of weapons can be used on the sets of television shows and movies being shot in New York. “We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that,” Cuomo said. Cuomo said the prop firearms used in films would probably not be classified as an assault weapon. “But people...

Zero Dark Thirty
by Maynard on December 17, 2012I attended an advanced screening of ZERO DARK THIRTY, including Q&A with director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal. This film about the hunt for bin Laden will be in theaters in a few days. In a word: See it. Highest recommendation.

Our Celebrity Pundits Weigh In
by Shifra on December 12, 2012**A Post by Shifra** Once upon a time, men were men, and women were women, and… oh wait, I’m not sure how this goes. Whatever. But I do know that once upon a time, politicians were politicians, and movie stars lived mostly in Hollywood, where they made movies and lived glamorous lives. Now, we have a Preezy of the Steezy who sees himself as the Celebrity-in-Chief, while celebs consider themselves pundits, and weigh in on Important Issues. This, from the Weekly Standard: At a candlelight vigil for Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in Bolivia, actor Sean Penn offered great praise for the sick strongman: “He is one of the most important forces we’ve had on this planet. And I will wish...

George W. Bush Decapitated in ‘Game of Thrones’
by Tammy on June 13, 2012UPDATE: The jerks have apologized. Yeah, funny what happens when people find out about your little inside jokes. And just the fact that we have to see a sentence like the following brings home just how absolutely disgusting this entire thing is: "'Game of Thrones' Showrunners, HBO Apologize for Bush's Head on Spike"

New RNC Ad: Forgetting the Recession?
by Tammy on May 11, 2012A good ad, nicely highlights the rank absurdity Obama and his disconnection with real life and the people of this nation. Speaking of disconnected hypocrites who have no idea what’s really happening in this country… The Hill: Obama raises $15M at Clooney’s home President Obama raised $15 million for his reelection bid at actor George Clooney’s Los Angeles home Thursday night. That amount includes the $40,000 per ticket price and the proceeds from an online auction, where two people were selected to attend the event. DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg, who co-hosted the fundraiser, announced the record amount at the event, according to a White House pool report. Obama thanked him and Clooney for their support. “We raised a lot...

Heartache: The New “Dark Shadows” Movie Trailer Is Out. And It’s Awful.
by Tammy on March 15, 2012I had such hope. It was risky with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, but it’s such a classic I thought it impossible to screw up. Well, they did. Screw it up. They made it….a comedy. So not only is Hollywood devoid of new ideas, they re-hash old good ideas and ruin them. Argh. The saving grace could have been Michelle Pfeiffer, but if we use this trailer as a guide, it looks like she’s not utilized well, or very much. If the film is as bad as the trailer (and I think it will be) one word sums it up in my humble opinion: Crap. I’m curious to see what you think. One reviewer seems to like it.

Whitney Houston, superstar of records, films, dies
by Tammy on February 11, 2012An extraordinary talent and gave us the best national anthem rendition of all time. A troubled, talented soul, may she rest in peace LOS ANGELES (AP) — Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music’s queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday. She was 48. Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen told KABC-TV that Houston died in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton. Her body remained in the hotel and Beverly Hills detectives were investigating. Houston’s publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the cause of her death was unknown. Houston’s death came on the eve of music’s biggest night...

HBO’s “Game Change” Trailer
by Tammy on February 1, 2012Yes, it’s all about Palin (even though the book was about Urkel) and yes, as expected it’s awful. Boy, the machines were obviously terrified of her, and for good reason. It’s a shame how things turned out, and now only we can change this situation both politically and culturally. It’s a big job, but Americans who preceded us had even bigger ones. This trailer should inspire you to want to kick butt in an even bigger way.

HBO “Game Change” Trailer–Features Julianne Moore as “Sarah Palin”
by Tammy on December 21, 2011This looks awful, but Ed Harris does seem to have Juan McRino down pretty well. I like Julianne Moore, I think she's fabulous, but from this little trailer and the bit we see, she seems awful and pretentious. I address all this in the Daily TAM Briefing. I'm curious to see what you think.

Showing Nothing Yet Saying Everything–Marilyn Monroe’s Famous Nudes
by Tammy on October 29, 2011A weekend treat 😉 A vastly more complex woman than most realize, the commentary along with these photos give you a bit more insight into the woman. Here’s a series of pics shot by photographer Lawrence Schiller during filming of 1962’s ultimately unfinished “Something’s Got to Give.” Monroe would be dead just four months after the pics were shot, and the film abandoned. In some little known trivia, after Monroe was fired from the film they hired Lee Remick to replace her. Dean Martin, the film’s co-star had leading lady approval, and refused to continue without Monroe. A version of the film ultimately made it to the big screen in 1963 titled “Move Over Darling,” starring the wonderful Doris Day...
