Highlights, Er, Cringeworthy Moments From The Jeb! Campaign
by Shifra on February 4, 2016By now, everyone has heard about Jeb’s begging pleading requesting his audience to clap. But here are some other gems from the campaign, which may leave you wondering why, with all their Super Pac money, the campaign seems to be run by a bunch of high school kids. Via NY Post: Jeb’s awkward plea to young voter: ‘I want to be your first’ GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush made a cringe-worthy plea Tuesday in New Hampshire to a college student who has never voted before. “I want to be your first,” he told the student…. Clinton was supposed to visit kids at a Boys and Girls Club in Laconia, New Hampshire, but she never showed up. Campus Food Pantries Feed Hungry Students: Welcome to Obama’s America!
by Shifra on October 14, 2014Well, thank goodness the country is now better off than ever before. And how do I know this? Because POTUS said so. I mean, he wouldn’t lie, or anything, would he? POTUS did admit, though, that people are “not feeling it.” So I guess the students who rely on food pantries for basic needs have not gotten the “we are better off now” memo. Or maybe they are just not feeling it… Via Wall Street Journal: Melanie Grayce West — Food Pantries Grow on New York Campuses (Article in full can be read via Food News) Tucked on the fringes of Kingsborough Community College’s campus in Brooklyn’s Manhattan Beach, walled off from the corner of a computer lab, sits a...

The ‘Singing’ Road Ahead
by Pat_S on October 2, 2014There’s an ebola epidemic coming our way, an insane terrorist army intent on killing us, an incompetent government that wants to know everything about us but keeps us in the dark about them. Nothing to be happy about. Well, good news, depending on the outcome of an experiment, we may be getting—TA DA—singing roads. That’s a happy thing, yes? Oh wait maybe not. It’s a social experiment about changing people’s behavior. In this case to reward us, the lab rats, only if we strictly obey the law. ‘Singing road’ built for social experiment TV show The road was paid for by the National Geographic Channel for a show called “Crowd Control” that premieres in November. Israel Defense & Ukraine Plane Crash Updates/Open Thread
by Tammy on July 17, 2014Talk about an intense day, and it’s not even close to being over. First, the horrible news about the Malaysian airliner being shot down over Ukraine. Much of the initial information is speculation, but one thing that has been confirmed is that it was shot down with a missile. Now the work begins to pinpoint the location of battery and perhaps that will give us information as to who did this. And, of course, the embarrassment here is that Obama, once again, exhibited how much of a fool he really is. We have 295 lost souls, and 23 dead Americans in this horrific act. He stepped awat from a photo op at a burger joint, then spent 38 seconds addressing...

Detroit: City Of The Living Dead
by Pat_S on August 30, 2013How bad can it get? Detroit couldn’t buy more paper to issue death and birth certificates. Death (certificates) took holiday in wake of bankruptcy filing Detroit’s funeral directors received this unusual text message last month. “FYI, city of Detroit can’t process death certificates because they have no paper and don’t have money to buy any.” The message, from a fellow funeral director, was mostly true: The city did stop issuing certified copies of birth and death certificates on July 23, days after the July 18 bankruptcy filing. That day, a nervous paper vendor demanded cash — and the city wanted to do business as usual, on credit. The paper is special and unique to each jurisdiction so Detroit couldn’t borrow...

China to Buy Smithfield Foods? Someone Call Paula Deen!
by Patricia on June 3, 2013Smithfield was founded in 1936 as a meat-packing plant in Virginia; it is currently a multi-million dollar industry and the nation’s number one producer of pork products. The idea that China, with its history of producing tainted products, may take over this American company is alarming. Hopefully, political pressure can stop the Smithfield deal which will face the scrutiny of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, or CFIUS, a government panel that assesses national security risks. From Reuters China’s Shuanghui International plans to buy Smithfield Foods Inc (SFD.N) for $4.7 billion to feed a growing Chinese appetite for U.S. pork, but the proposed takeover of the world’s No. 1 producer has stirred concern in the United States....

by Tammy on December 3, 2012Or, maybe she should be Ambassador to PlasticSurgeryistan. Really, women need to stop doing this to themselves. But wait, don’t we still need one for Libya? Via Bloomberg. President Barack Obama is considering nominating Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, to be either his next ambassador to the U.K. or France, as he looks to reward his biggest fundraisers with embassies that never seem out of fashion, according to two people familiar with the matter. Wintour, 63, may have some competition for the London posting, with Matthew Barzun, the finance chairman of Obama’s presidential campaign, also interested in the job, officially known as ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, said the people, who requested anonymity. Both Wintour and Barzun...
